Finally put aside my ignorance for 12v brick battery tools when I tested this out in store. I always figured why make a compact tool and not have the battery built into the grip otherwise just use a 18-20v if the brick battery is your style. However this grip feels really good and would say it feels like the comfort of a handgun as oppose to a thick stripper pole that MKE and Bosch sell for 12v tools that I use. It's a driver with a nice delicate clutch, which is perfect for my line of work of fasteners ranging from plastic to sheet metal. The bright inline leds are just not seen on these clutch drivers, only impacts which is a shame. That light and the easy insert and release chuck was a big selling point. When your job requires you to use as many as five separate bits at a time (ie T15, T20, T25, 1/4", 1/8 hex), this chuck makes it hassle free to swap quick and easy. Love this tool now over my Bosch and MKE 12v drivers. Hope Dewalt can expand their 12v line soon, I'm liking their 12v worklight to pair with the driver kit I have now.

I used this light duty on industrial printers for 9 months. All T20 work and below, very low power stuff. The clutch/teeth/collet section stopped working. The online warranty service states the unit is under warranty but they do not repair this model. I contact support directly and they refer me to the website to schedule a repair that doesn't exist as an option. Now they won't respond. This is my last DeWalt. Milwaukee's warranty service is amazing and their tools are 10x more durable. Buy once for high price, cry once, and leave it at that.

Most people already have a drill and impact driver, this fills the gap between a handheld manual screwdriver and the drill. Since it's lightweight it helps reduce fatigue when all you are doing is driving or removing small screws. I definitely needed this when I was repairing my dryer because I had to remove the battery before I could get my big 18v drill into the access hole. Of all the major power tool companies Dewalt and Milwaukee offer a lower power 12v platform. The Dewalt is brushless while the base Milwaukee is not and both are the same price, if you want the brushless Milwaukee it's $50, I'm a homeowner, not a contractor. This will be perfect in the spring when I de-winterize my camper since I'm not lugging a big 18v drill up and down a ladder to service ... MoreMost people already have a drill and impact driver, this fills the gap between a handheld manual screwdriver and the drill. Just bought this when the price dropped, and also got an additional Military discount to boot - a great bargain! My previous power drivers were all something like 4V models, none of which had any speed controls or clutch adjustments. This one is slightly larger in diameter, but actually is shorter than those so will fit into tighter spaces, and is light years better in all respects! It has clutch settings so I can avoid overdriving the screws, variable speed for better control, and lights that illuminate the area perfectly. The other ones did not have a removable battery, thus when they were down on charge, I had to wait until they were recharged before continued use. With this one, I can just swap out the battery and keep going. Similar competitors that I have looked at that are available from other brands all seem to either be larger / longer in size, or be missing some of the features. DeWalt hit the mark with this one. Highly recommended!
Wow, this drill is AMAZING! Perhaps it's because it's my first "real" (expensive) drill I've ever purchased, but wow. It is hands down incredible. SUPER smooth, with unbelievable control. How strong, how fast, everything. It's all on you. Not to include that the drill head itself is so incredibly small it's able to fit into areas my other drill wouldn't even come close to. That same small drill head has a massive light ring that goes all the way around it, so even when you think you didn't need light, there it is, and it REALLY makes every job a breeze. I recently purchased it and already put it through its' work by using it to build a "fireplace" (electric) frame and mantle. I am beyond impressed. I have a lot of 20V DeWalt tools. I was hesitant to buy this 12V. But I’m very glad I did. You’re not going to drive hundreds of long deck screws with this. But that’s not what it’s for. Compact and lightweight and part of that is the smaller lighter battery. Bought this complete kit with charger and two batteries. My new favorite DeWalt. I’ve been using it just now to drill and install many cabinet knobs and pulls. This is a drill.. not an impact, so smooth variable speed. Light touch on the trigger and the great light comes on. Collet bit holder is one hand operation. Slide up for release and it stays without holding open. Insertion same .. insert bit and collet drops securing bit in single hand use. You won’t regret this purchase. You’re welcome.
Really like the range on the clutch. You could go from assembling electronics to driving hinge screws into virgin wood without stripping the threads. Probably get by driving deck screws also but I wouldn’t want to tackle building a deck with it. The chuck could be nicer, the chuck on my 4V green driver that is going away is better. 12V power for a screwdriver is nice and with this drivers clutch, it is not a worry about being over powered and you get decent speed. Used mine for the first time to repair a GE dryer that needed the top and front to be removed and the is screwdriver really was a plus with that task.
I own and use a number of drills and drivers made by Makita, Dewalt, Bosch, Metabo, etc. Although I certainly didn't "need" this driver, I was fascinated by the idea of having a small, light general purpose device. So far I am very impressed. The size and weight make this very comfortable to use. It even does a reasonable job drilling (with appropriate hex shank bits). Power and speed for small to medium screws exceeded my expectations. Only had it a few days but it may well become my new favorite driver, displacing my Dewalt 20V.
This little driver is almost perfect! It's small, light and so far battery life is great. I got this after using a comparable Snap On driver at five times the price and I think it's just as good. If you've never used a hex driver with the addition of a clutch, you're missing out! Treat yourself and pick one of these up... I'm getting another one to keep at home.
I purchased this about 2 years ago for my job as an aircraft mechanic. I use it nearly everyday and it may be the best power tool I've ever purchased. The compact size is great and has plenty of power for turning out rusted screws. It's also pretty easy on the batteries, last quite a while even under constant use. Couldn't recommend this tool enough.
