DEWALT 20-Volt MAX XR Lithium-Ion Cordless Drywall Screwgun/Cut-out Tool Combo Kit (2-Tool) with (2) Batteries 2Ah and Charger is another excellent addition to my tool room. This two tool combination is great for doing drywall work. The screw gun has multiple settings on it, to ensure that the screw goes to the depth that you want. It works on a clutch principal, which disengages when the setting is reached to prevent any damage or driving beyond what you have set it at. The tool fits ergonomically in either the left or the right hand and is easy to operate. The tool has an aimed light to help illuminate the immediate work area. The 20V battery easily locks in and is not too heavy on the tool. I rate these tools 5*s out of 5. Another Dewalt win! Thank you Dewalt for allowing me to try your tools.

Although it is an older model, it is still a brushless 20V tool, takes all the DeWalt 20V batteries, and it is perfect for the homeowner / hobbyist. Being a little older model makes it cheaper to acquire too. My work uses models like this in the repair shop, where they are used every day, and not in the kindest way. They have held up to all the use and abuse with little to no breakdowns over the years. That's why I decided on the DeWalt brand.

When you are in the market for a dewalt impact, it can get a little confusing. The best part about this model is the three power levels. It’s a function you never knew you needed. Level one is stepped way down and perfect for assembling all the things that tell you not to use an impact (that I would anyway and break) Level two is for lighter impact driver work into material and three is a monster. This is way faster and more powerful than my dewalt impact driver from 6 years ago.I use my impact driver weekly or more and just started renovating my second house. Pair this with one of the new, lighter batteries and you have a winning combo.Scott @ourpieceofthehudsonvalley on IG

I have used Dewalt tools for many years and have never been let down by them. Dewalt has hit homeruns with all of it's 20V MAX XR tools!!! They come with brushless motors which negate the usual brush replacement of brushed motor tools. They are much stronger. They last much longer under heavy use. The Lithium-Ion batteries seem to be 2 to 3 times longer lasting than the old batteries. I use my new 1/4 in. Impact Driver on almost every project and it performs flawlessly! I will never settle for anything less than Dewalt 20V MAX XR Tools. They are absolutely the 'Best You Can Buy'!!!!!!
Very compact with plenty of strength. Has a strong enough light source that I have actually used it for a flash light. There is no hesitation when driving in screws. I particularly like the fact it has variable modes. Impact drivers work so fast that if it only had a variable speed trigger, by the time I react, it is too late or there is always the possibility of accidentally pulling the trigger too tight. Is there an appreciable difference in variable speed triggers and varying modes? Maybe not but there is definitely more peace of mind with the variable speed. I have a number of Dewalt power tools and the drill driver is the same high quality as the other power tools. I highly recommend anything in the Dewalt line.
It seems that after you hit 70 years of age you need lots of outside help for projects. I have been a DeWalt customer for 27 years because of their power to weight ratios and design so my recent purchase of a 20v 5ah tool set included this impact driver. I liked the idea of drilling a pilot hole with the drill and driving the screw with this impact. Except this impact has no torque. The bit spins normally under no load but you can stop it with your fingers. On any of the 3 settings. It is useless for a driver and would not sink a 5/4" drywall screw into a cold cube of butter...which is not something I would generally do, but you get the point. And the bit wobbles under no load whatsoever. Wow!The drill in this set appears strong but now I am wondering about the ... MoreIt seems that after you hit 70 years of age you need lots of outside help for projects. This is my go to DeWalt tool which comes with me to every job site. This impact driver is very versatile and has tons of torque! I’ve never had an issue with mine in the last 4 years and I always put it to the test. It’s been in the rain, it’s been dropped from heights and it’s just keeps going. Paired with a 2 amp battery for light duty or even a 5 amp for more longevity. This tool is useful for my job as a carpenter but also provides useful around the house and small work on my car! Love this thing!!!!
Hey Dewalt, there needs to be an automatic shutoff safety feature to protect this tool from overheating itself. Perhaps Dewalt would like to do an analysis on my 887 to assess the damage? Now I'm afraid to push it so perhapas I need to replace it. I'm a homeowner working on my remodel btw. Recently, my brushless 887XR 1/4 impact got so hot it smoked. I was angle driving a 6 inch Ledger Lock T-27 self drilling 3/8 structural screw through a new spruce joist into a 50 yr old double spruce joist. About 3 inches in, it struggled but kept beating away until it stalled out. It continued the battle but the motor started smoking. I quickly dislodged the battery and stuck the unit in front of a fan. It still works but to what extent. I really need this tool but feel I need ... MoreHey Dewalt, there needs to be an automatic shutoff safety feature to protect this tool from overheating itself. I will say, it's been very reliable and up to the task until now. The 887 also is easier on battery draw so it's an ideal candidate for using small and/or degraded larger batteries. Reserve your best batteries for energy gobblers like blowers, grinders, saws etc.
I am really surprised this model has been around as long as it has because the trigger starts shorting out after any type of continuous use like running deck screws on a deck. if it only has light use you may get lucky but don't expect it to be used commercially. I have thrown away 13 of this model because of the glitchy trigger. They would eventually get to the point that ya never knew if it would work when the trigger was pulled. I ended up giving away my last 6 of this model of which 3 had already started to glitch a little. Stupid me had the earlier models and loved them but tested this model out and found it to be slightly faster at driving 3" screws and so gave 6 of them away. to my surprise it didn't take long before I started having problems. What a huge waste of money. I have seen many other people had the same issues so I am shocked it has been sold for so long without ever addressing the issue. note that I have been a Dewalt fan since before any battery tools and have many of most of the battery tools. I love most of them but this one is a mistake
I’m doing some post and beam framing. I’ve used deWalt for years, so when my impact gave up the ghost I replaced it. When the chuck on that one didn’t work, I swapped it. When the replacement gave up the ghost after 12 screws, I bought another, when that one didn’t sink a single screw but just whirred I started to rethink my deWalt purchasing. I’ll never buy their brand again in spite of having 10 or 12 20v tools. I’m done absolute garbage. I came to the site looking for a rep to deal with the problem, but none available. Thankfully the review function works. The only deWalt function currently working in my shop.I rate current deWalt products five poop emojis
