Battery-Powered Versatility

Although I already have a large gas-powered power washer, I quickly purchased the DeWalt DCPW550. I liked the idea of having a smaller battery-powered unit with more versatility, which would make it more appealing to use on smaller projects. The ability to draw water from a bucket is an added bonus for when I need to use the unit far away from any water hose connection. I was unaware of the issues others have experienced with the quick-connections breaking, but I did question their durability when I first assembled my unit. Because of that, I have been as careful as possible using the unit and haven't had any problems. I was so excited when I learned about this one. I got it for a Christmas present. Well that just means that now I am stuck with it. Like everyone else the plastic hose adapter broke inside 15 mins. I still had stuff to clean so I didn't want to find out how long I would wait, just for a replacement of equally poor construction. 2 hardware stores and 45 mins later I admit defeat. No standard pressure washer couplings are compatible with this. They invented it or something, sure why go with standards that make your product cross compatible with every other or the most major other brands. Works as advertised but don't expect it to be like a traditional power washer. There are others that rate this poorly and say it's merely the same as a garden hose sprayer but this is absolutely false. This is without a doubt stronger than a basic garden hose gun. This strips my patio wood paint off and removes build up of black soot and oil under my bbq and if you try putting your fingers in front of the gun, you're gonna strip your skin. Does a garden hose gun do that? This power washer is about half the psi power that of a traditional one and yes that is for you to understand and know before buying. The usage for this is in my opinion basic spring cleanup: power wash your concrete and asphalt spaces , swimming pool deck, your patio furniture, tarp and tent cleaning, bikes, even powerful enough to strip off your grim on bbq grills, and car wash. For car wash I would actually use the power nozzle for wheels but move to a less powerful wider nozzle for your body so as to not strip the clear coat . The battery lasts around 20-30m on a full charge so for extended use, I would have 2 batteries handy. For me I have 4 batteries because I have a large family of DeWalt tools so power isn't an issue for any task. I will say the weakest part of this tool is the garden hose attachment which is made of PLASTIC?!?!? The tool is made super tough like any DeWalt tool but then they go for plastic for the most important part of the tool?? Once you break this, it's game over and I'm not aware of where to find a replacement. Also what is annoying is the fast release attachment is weak and pops off easily when you just even touch the attachment, and you have to then turn off the garden hose then reattach and then turn back the garden hose faucet again. This happens OFTEN and really a pain point of this product. So despite this, I still love this product because it's EASY to use and fast to whip out and USE. Very convenient being cordless.... I also own a traditional power washer but how many times will you admit you actually drag that thing out of your storage and plug it in and setup hose etc...? It's a huge chore to setup a plug in traditional power washer ... This is lightning fast.... Zero setup. Whip it out and go, cordless freedom. You end up using it wayyyy more often than the plug in power washer. It's powerful enough for MOST use cases and in the times you need more power, you go lug out the real power washer --- I consider them companion tools not replacement. Hope this helps.

Faulty connection
19 June 2023

Performs as expected and good for light duty applications, but as others have mentioned the quick connect system is horrible. I read the reviews and thought I would be ok if careful during use. I took care to not drag the hose around with the unit, but still managed to break the cheap plastic fitting the second time I used it. Thought I was clever put on a brass quick connect fitting. With just slight pressure on the hose, that ripped loose from the threaded plastic outlet making the entire washer no unusable. Generally a fan of the 20V Max line, but major buyer's remorse on this one. Terrible design. My fault for ignoring the reviews.

Good Little Pressure Washer

So, I got this a couple days ago. The DeWALT 20V MAX* 550 psi Cordless Power Cleaner. When it first came out it didn’t seem to get a lot of good reviews. Some going so far as to say it was not a pressure washer. While it is about half as powerful as most pressure washers, it does increase the water pressure well over what you get straight out of the garden hose even with the best spray nozzle attached. So, it is a pressure washer. All I needed was something more powerful than the spray nozzle I use on my garden hose and was easy to use compared to dragging out my larger pressure washer for small quick jobs. I just got a new puppy and I needed to clean the poop and pee off the floor pan of the crate each day and the garden hose was not quite cutting it.This pressure cleaner does a fine job of that and as long as I was using it, I decided to see what else it would clean. It did a good job on my concrete patio, garbage can and recycle bins. It cleaned off the walls of my house and shed as well. For only 550 PSI it seemed to be a really good alternative for any small pressure washing job.It comes with some nice accessories, four different quick connect nozzles, a bottle for using a cleaning solution and a hose you can drop in a bucket of water when there is no garden hose available. I use the Turbo Nozzle the most, it does the best job of cleaning. The other three nozzles range from 15° to 40° and are good for using in some tight spots and as a water broom to sweep away small debris. My big complaint is how short the run time is with a 5AH battery attached. It goes by quick in the high-speed setting, 15 maybe 20 minutes or so it seemed. I also think it need an additional handle on the top of it in front of where you store the other three nozzles to make it that much easier to handle and carry.Overall, I’m happy with it and it is more than I expected it to be. I can see I’ll be using it for more than I originally planned. If you’re a homeowner that doesn’t have a full sized pressure washer, this would be a good tool to have and probably all you need for small basic jobs.

Good product that could be great

So I’m unsure of how some of these other contractors/consumers treat their tools but whenever it comes to durability there have never been any issues. There are two things that I would recommend to improve the quality of the tool. #1-find a way to increase the power I bought a 0 degree nozzle and the power did boost. The boost was minimal so a little more juice would be great. #2- Also the main issue create a battery that can keep up with it. I have an extensive dewalt collection of tools as well as batteries I have tried all the AH with the exception of the 15 that’s the only one I do not own and all of them die pretty fast with this tool it’s the same as my high dollar dewalt grinder and skill saw. It is sorta like being teased you got this awesome tool that works great but you have to be prepared to have 12 batteries charged and ready to go to go from start to finish on a project. I have recently tried the power stack and that little bugger can get it. After the first charge using on the atomic impact it was 3 weeks of every day use average 1 hour per day before it died. I tried it in the pressure washer it lasted the same amount of time as the 8AH and had the power of the flexvolt 6AH battery. That’s when I emailed dewalt asking for a full line of the powerstack batteries. For those of us sho work all day into the evening and weekends it would be great to have the power for sure but longevity definitely counts too. Keep cranking out these tools with awesome power and abilities but start cranking out the batteries to keep up with them and I know most if not all dewalt users who depend on these tools for work will be super grateful. One total off topic subject (and I apologize for going left like this) why if I want a hydraulic impact do I have to choose between makita, Milwaukee or rigid. The power combined with less noise why hasn’t that ever been on the drawing board dewalt? Y’all have always been my favorite get me a hydraulic 1/4” impact. Thanks. Also my trade is not listed I am a HVACR professional have been for 25 years I’m not an electrician even though I can do all their work and sometimes have to nor plumber even tho I mess with some of their stuff as well please update your choices on trades it is offensive not to sound arrogant or anything but I can do their jobs but it’s rare that they can do mine. I didn’t say impossible because I have met electricians as well as plumbers with understanding of refrigeration but overall they do not have to know anything about our jobs and we do have to know the majority of theirs.

Handy tool for cleaning jobs. I initially bought this for a specific job there i did not have feasible access to running water. This tool comes with a siphon hose, so you can use it with a bucket or, in my case, a 45 gallon trash can. You can also hook it directly to a hose.I have used it to clean condenser and evaporator coils for refrigeration and HVAC work. It does a great job. I woukd recommend buying the black pressure washer nozzle for gentle spray applications. My only complaint is that the wand is a bit long for tight spaces and i would enjoy a shorter option.

Great tool for light duty washing. Absolutely love the convenience and it’s pretty darn powerful for a battery operated pressure washer. So easy to grab and use and not have to deal with gettin out the gas powered washer. Great for washing the car or any application that does not require high pressure. I didn’t read reviews and was unaware of the water inlet connection issue. When I pulled that part out of the box Knew that might be an issue so I was careful with it still broke it 3 time using it. The plastic Is so thin on the shoulder of the quick disconnect (Its less than 1/8 in thick) I don’t know how it lasted as long as it did. I expected more from Dewalt very disappointing. Of corse nothing ever brakes after job is done always happen at very inconvenient time.

Happy with the power washer
15 June 2023

I purchased the powe washer so I could wĂ sh my pontoon and dock at a cabin that does not have electricity or running water at the lake. It is not as powerful as a gas power washer, but I knew that prior to purchasing the unit. I needed a unit that could pull water from the lake and it does that so I am satisfied with the unit. Two issues with the power washer. When hooked to a garden hose it leaked at that connection. A new, thicker washer corrected that issue. The second issue was using the unit with my small 1.5 amp drill battery. Run time was short. A new 5 amp battery corrected that problem. It is easy and convenient to use and did a good job cleaning my car.

So... thought this was going to be an alternative for my family to use instead of my bigger gas powered pressure washer, I thought wrong. I ordered the DCPW550 model from ebay with what I thought was a reasonable price, and now realize why it was priced accordingly. The day I received the product, I immediately opened and put together. It was an entertaining moment. I then realized that the quick connect filter had snapped off from the coupler. Poor design in my opinion and feel that this particular piece should have been made out of metal. I will include a pic of the broken part. As far as my understanding goes, I should have gotten years out of this product instead only a few minutes. Sadly, Dewalt does not currently have a replacement part or upgrade to fix this issue. Other then the issue mentioned above, it seems like a nice battery operated pressure washer with attachments. Seemed to go through a lot of soap, and not a whole lot of pressure even on the high setting. Buyers be warned, this seems to be a commen trait amongst this product inarticulate. Hopefully this helps with anyone considering to by this product.
