The bits are what I ordered. However, the case is not what is pictured. The photo shows a vinyl case which each grouping [3] of bits hinged to the left. What I received is a case made of metal and there is no hinging on the groupings. The bits do not hinge making it difficult in both knowing their size but also in the removal of the bits.It would be nice to deliver what you have pictured.

Best set of drill bits i have ever had

I have owned better but for the price of these bits, you will not find any better quility.. They stay sharp even without lube. cut better with heat and slow speed. They may not Recommend doing them that way but im just saying from how they work for me. They will even drill stainless steel with out a problem. I have had a set for going on 8 years. I have broke a few of the smaller ones, but that was not even easy to do. They will probley be the last set of bits you will ever have to buy.No they did'nt pay me either to say this either..lol

DeWalt pilot point drill bits are incredible for drilling thin metal. My 3/8" cordless drill will easily power a 1/2" bit through 1/8" steel in one shot - no pre-drilling smaller holes. A real time saver. Because of the grind they are difficult to sharpen, but they last a long time. This is my third set. My complaint is that DeWalt cheapened the index. It is very difficult to see the drill size on the back rows. The larger drills are difficult to get in and out. This index is stamped, thin gauge sheet metal, of a different design than drill indexes have been since they began making them. Very difficult to use.

Different Case Than Pictured

The item recieved is different from what is displayed in the picture. The picture depicts the Drill Bit Set in a plastic case that stands up vertically opening from the sides. What I received is the same Drill Bit Set but, it is in a metal case that lays flat and the bits stand up. Its the same set just in a different case. I was looking for the one in the plastic case. I will keep/use the product.

Excellent bits, as expected. I cut up the retail packaging and hot glued the clear blister wrap to the metal box to reduce airflow. Then I stuck some ZRUST tabs inside to inhibit rusting. I like the starter tips, but I suspect that sharpening these bits when they get dull will be a challenge and a half.

Just received this product (April 2019 - US purchase) and want to update the posts regarding origin and case as there are several comments posted with different descriptions. The case is a heavy duty metal - no plastic parts at all. This is a 'skeleton' case so you can see the bits and touch them without opening the case. I put the case upside down, sideways and every which way and shook it looking for the bits to fall out - not a single bit fell out of its slot. Could not be more happier. This set is ... Made in Germany.

Metal, yes. Wood, no!

I do mostly woodwork and needed a new set of bits. This set was on sale, designated for metal and wood & I was delighted to not only be getting a new set, but all of those sizes! I have drilled a few metal holes, and it works well with that. But wood - NO WAY! The bits are so aggressive. The screw through the wood instead of drilling through it. Then once the chuck has bottomed out they begin cutting the wood that remains in the hole (approx 85%) It creates a rough hole with lots of tear-out. The very small bits work OK - but 1/4 or so & higher are just way too aggressive. I wind up having to drill twice: drill a holes 60% or so the diameter you need; then after that holes is cleaned out, step up a few sizes and it may cut instead of screw through. If it's the same, they'll go right back this time.)

The bits are not made of high speed steel, so you should not plan on drilling anything harder than mild steel with them. For the price they are a good bit set for drilling where the risk of the bit walking is the primary problem.

The first set of pilot point bits I got were Black & Decker. These bit are great for drilling mild steel, they cut from the outside in and will leave a small washer on the end of the bit. They don't catch when they break through the bottom of the hole. The design is similar to that of a brad point wood bit. They also work well if want to recess a bolt or screw head because they cut flat. Just make sure that you drill the recess first and then the hole for the bolt. The pilot on the bit will give you a center for the bolt hole.
