Had some details on the cover (some spots of paint maybe) and the corners were a little damaged, but nothing awful and still totally worth the money that I payed. The delivery was faster than I expected. Another happy order with WOB and can't wait for my next one!!

A sweeping saga that transports the reader through time and major historical events, the two main characters keeping you endlessly engrossed in their lives and story. Diana Gabaldons imagination, historical knowledge and attention to detail are unsurpassed and the whole wonderful story brilliantly executed. Thank goodness there are eight generous books -so far- to keep this reader happy. A true masterpiece.

I'm not really sure what I expected, but it was definitely different to what I just experienced! Firstly, it grabbed me straight away - a strong female British nurse, only just returned from WW2 is hurtled back in time to 1743 Scotland - yes please! I love time travel, and historical fiction even more. What I didn't expect was a mixture of history, fantasy, romance, brutality, erotica, and pure heart-wrenching drama. There were a few moments where I felt a little sick to the stomach, and others where I wanted to cry. The language and grammar is a little hard to follow at first as well, but you get used to it, and kudos to the writer for the authenticity. You'll be disgusted, horrified, amused, uncomfortable, happy, intrigued and always wanting more. I was worried I wouldn't like the first outlander book. I have already watched the series and when I saw how long the book was, I was seriously worried! But it was so enjoyable. The characters are fleshed out so well, there is so much more detail than the show as well. And I really liked that the show is almost to the word in terms of how close it is to the book. On to book 2 now!
I started reading this book after I saw the first few episodes of the TV series. The book has a great pace -just right, not too fast however not too slow. There are a lot of elements to interest you, time travel, romance and adventure. There is a reason that this series of books are best sellers, they are well written and keep you turning the pages.
I started watching the TV series and then found out there were books!! This story of a love that literally spans all time had me from the beginning! Claire and her husband Frank are o a second honeymoon after the war, While looking for a plant, Claire is pulled back in time two hundred years. There she meets Jaime Fraser. The author's use of actual history and the descriptive beauty of Scotland almost transport you there. All I can say is, once you start be ready for a wild ride and more be ready to buy at least 7 more books!
I have been reading and especially been rereading the outlander series for about 30 years already. The first five books I have are paperbacks held together by elastic bands, so many times have they been read. I have now bought a hardcover to complement the other hardcovers I have of the series. I am one of those who really don't like the tv-series, because I have been living with these characters for a long time already and no real life person can ever come close to how I have pictured them in my head. But these books I'll keep rereading them until the last book is published.
Diana is the best story teller of this century. You can easily slip into the time she is writing about. Full of suspense, intrigue you actually feel like you are in the time being written about. Captivatingly great read.
This is a fabulous series of books and when you have the Outlander Compainion book for reference it make the series so much more complete. If you saw the show, which is awesome, then these books will fill in the gaps and back story; what did Claire feel when she traveled through the stones? Jamie a virgin? Find out for yourself. I got lucky to buy a complete set that's as new as coming off the shelf!! Find yours today and enjoy a trip to the past.
