Digimon Adventure Tri Part 1 - Reunion (blu Ray)

(3 reviews)

It's been six years since that summer adventure when Taichi Yagami and the rest of the DigiDestined crossed over to the Digital World. And nearly three years have passed since the final battle between Hikari Yagami's group and BelialVamdemon. As the peaceful days passed by, at some point the gate to the Digital World closed. Not even the DigiDestined know what caused this, and time alone continues to pass.

Digimon Adventure tri. is a 6-part series of movies that serve as a sequel to the first two seasons of the Digimon anime series that us old nuggets have grown up with in the late 90s and early 00s. Tri takes place a few years after the events of Digimon Adventure 02 (or season 2), as the chosen children are in high school and are dealing with the challenges of their impending adulthood.Fans of the Saban dub will be happy to know that approximately half (if not more) of the cast have returned to reprise their roles (in comparison, hardly any of the Japanese cast returned, so we ought to be grateful), and while I prefer the Japanese dub when watching anime, I did watch the English dub when watching the film a second time, and I'll have to admit that I did have a ... MoreDigimon Adventure tri. is a 6-part series of movies that serve as a sequel to the first two seasons of the Digimon anime series that us old nuggets have grown up with in the late 90s and early 00s. While it's disappointing that not everybody was able to return, the fact that so much of the U.S. cast returned at all is a feat in itself and long-time fans need not be disappointed. While I was never particularly fond of Saban's dub (due to the stupid writing), I must admit that they did a fantastic job with casting. Unfortunately, the new cast members seem to lack the vigour of their veteran counterparts, which is a testament to the talents of the returning cast.Unlike the original television series, which was very much aimed at children and intent on generating as much revenue through merchandising as possible, Tri's tone is generally more mature, melancholic and even philosophical at times, which will limit its appeal to children who have only recently been exposed to the series via Madman's DVD releases of the original series or via streaming services, but for those who want to see their beloved characters explored with a more intimate lens, Tri will satisfy, and I anticipate the next 5 movies with bated breath!A enjoyable and grown-up sequel for long-time and even lapsed fans. Recommended for sentimentalists and those who favour character development over constant action.
