I bought this for my grand daughter and tried it out before hand. The stars do light up nicely on ceiling and walls. You can see the Big Dipper. The planets are shown by turning-flipping the thing over and a smaller picture shows on ceiling or wall. I was very disappointed that it does not name what you are looking at. And there is no booklet to explain the planets either. If a booklet with the same pictures naming these planets and so on, were included, that would make a very nice matching game, to learn them. Same with the constellations and so on. It seems someone did not think that through. Otherwise for the price, it works well, but it is all done manually not motorized like it says on the box. This planetarium says it's for ages 6+ but children of younger ages find just as much enjoyment it just as well! It quite easy to setup and the stars setting does an awesome job getting coverage of the full ceiling in the dark. The 3 slides that come with it have great pictures that make relatable teaching points for those aspiring astronomers out there! The only thing I recommend an adult for is tuning the autofocus feature when focusing the slide pictures. It's a little snug and may be a little cumbersome for small hands. All in all, I give the product four stars and I recommend for children. My daughter is even using it as ambiance night light now. The stars are very calming.

It does allow you to focus the projection, which is a nice feature, so you can do it in any sized room. The images are great, and everyone loved how they looked. The only problem was there is no identification of what the pictures are showing. The planets are easy, since we all know those, however there were quite a few of the other images that I didn't know what they were. I guess that means it takes some time to research the images, which for some will be fun, for others means more work. Like I mentioned earlier, the other side of the Planetarium Projector, projects rotating stars onto the ceiling. This feature is really cool, and my favorite aspect of the toy, however, it still has it's flaws. Depending on the room size and height, it projects differently. We first tried it in our family room, which has a vaulted ceiling that goes from 9 feet to 14 feet. The higher the vault was, the more out of focus it was. The other room we tried it in was a bedroom with an 8 foot ceiling. The stars showed on the ceiling and the walls, which was nice. I did wish there was a way to focus the stars, because they seemed a bit blurry, which was a little disappointing. The motor that rotates the stars 360 degrees does make a little noise, but nothing that felt too distracting. The rotating of the stars worked smoothly for about 3/4 of the rotation, while the other 1/4 of the rotation it would make a loud clicking sound and instead of a smooth rotation, it was very jerky and distracting. This issue with the rotation happened at the same point, and despite trying to move the position of the Planetarium Projector, it did not change or fix the problem. This toy would be great for any kids learning about the stars or solar system. While the projector aspect is cool, with only 3 discs, it will stop getting used pretty quickly. The rotating stars is the coolest part of this toy, I just wish it rotated smoothly and had a focusing aspect like the projector.

Discovery Planetarium Projector 2-in-1 Stars and Planet Projection is a great STEM toy for kids. The box says 6+ but my one and four year old absolutely loved this toy. Looking at the 24 photo slides was fun and educational. It comes with three discs that are easy to insert and switch. Only draw back for the planet projector is I don’t know what some of the slides are. It would have been great if this toy came with a booklet that identifies what each slide is. The star projection side was really cool to see as well. The blue “stars” slowly rotate off the ceiling and walls. The star projector side makes a low humming sound; which doesn’t bother me. The projector requires three AA batteries that’s not included. My children have been playing with and carrying this planetarium projector around everywhere for the last month. It’s easy to set up and use. My two year old has no problem turning it on by herself. She does however, need help putting in the planet slides.(3 are included) they can be a little difficult to slide in completely. The projector is very quiet except it does make a ticking sound as it is rotating through the stars. The projected picture is not very big the farther away you move it from the wall the less clear it becomes. It does require 3 AA batteries (not included) but if your kids fall asleep with it on not to worry, it has a 30 minute auto shut off which is a good feature. The only thing that could be better than that is, if it didn’t require batteries ... MoreMy children have been playing with and carrying this planetarium projector around everywhere for the last month. I hope they come out with an expansion set of disks for this projector. I prefer the star mode myself, it is such a brilliant blue. If you live in a big city like I do, you don’t get to see that many, this projector makes you feel as if you were camping out under the stars.

My three children love this toy space and planetarium projector. This projector is very simple to operate and comes already assembled plus it has instructions with photos and a cool activity poster for kids to learn and make homemade craters. Make sure you have three AA batteries for this projector because they are not included. It comes with three interchangeable disks that have 24 photo slides total so you have lots of images of planets, constellations, galaxies and more. The motorized projector rotates stars automatically. The pivoting projector shines stars and planets onto your walls and ceilings. Good gift toy. No surprises.

I gave planetarium projector to my 8 year old daughter and it was received very well. The toy itself is not very small, but is OK -- it's a good size for a child's toy. The quality of the item is reasonable -- it's plastic as expected. It is a "standard" build quality that should last a while, and physically looks nice enough to keep out with the other toys. While the box recommends for ages 6+, and my 8 year old liked it. I think younger children may also really enjoy it -- for example, I can imagine 3+ year olds may enjoy it, but the younger kids may need basic help with operation. Functionality is OK. It takes (3) AA batteries and about 1 minute of initial assembly out of the box and then you are off and running. Hopefully it's pretty obvious you probably don't want to use it regularly in a brightly lit room. After doing a quick search online, I see others share my biggest complaint -- more content! It comes with a few projector discs of content, but from what I can tell, that's it. It would be nice to even sell additional add on content if possible. So far, I haven't seen any. That said, it's usually a good sign when your biggest complaint is that you want "more".

Great STEM activity for my kids

The planetarium photos are very clear and it's very easy to switch from star to planetarium view and back but my only suggestion is adding more disc's or having the option to purchase more. There are so many activities you can entertain your kids with this projector and my family is looking to utilize all of them with our Discovery #Mindblown Planetarium Projector.

Great interactive toy!
26 April 2021

The Toy Space and Planetarium Projector, is great for children of all ages. Every member of our family engages in the projector activity. We also, use the toy for scouting, and sleep overs. As the galaxies and stars move across ceilings and walls, much excitement is brought to the watching faces. This toy encourages interaction, and the imagination. The toy is quality made, and holds up nicely to each play session. The fact that the projector is motorized, is very helpful during each display. The focal ring really helps focus the slides in a large or small space. I highly recommend the Toy Space and Planetarium Projector for inspiring minds alike!

This is a great space projector and it make a great learning tool for my 5yr old daughter. All it needed was 3 AA batteries. The projector comes with 3 interchangeable discs that can be turn, while inserted, to display multiple images of the planets/galaxies. You can switch between 2 modes (Stars or Space) In Star Mode, one end of the projector projects a bunch of stars which my daughter loves as a night light. Good thing the projector LED auto turn OFF after 30 mins of being ON. If not, the battery sure would not last. In Space Mode, the other end is used to project the image found on the 3 disc. Since each image is different, you will need to turn the top to focus the image. My daughter is into science, so it was fun to talk about the planet and the solar system ... MoreThis is a great space projector and it make a great learning tool for my 5yr old daughter.
