We have several of these little characters for the toniebox and most of them are not voiced by the characters in the actual movie. Some of the singers are downright bad. Based on what this cost and the fact that it is licensed by Disney, it seems pretty unreasonable that different people would be providing the soundtracks. It’s a really cute idea and super fun but I’m hesitant to buy more characters. My four year old loves it but I have to listen to it all day, lol.

Nice idea, but despite Disney branding all over it, it's definitely not the original voices. Sounds like karaoke with a much worse mix than the real soundtrack. Also it's super disappointing to not get the original songs sung by The Rock and Gemaine Clement; whoever is imitating them here is only doing a mediocre job. Honestly I'm very surprised that Tonies decided to do this; until I came to this site and found all of the other people complaining, I really thought that this might be a forgery. Even the picture of Moana is wrong (which should have tipped me off, tbh), to the point that my daughter didn't even recognize her. I'm surprised Disney is ok with this.

Picked up in store so I didn’t see the reviews before buying it. The story is great and has the Disney character voices and most the songs as well, but the song “How Far I’ll Go” is disappointing. The person singing it is no where near as good as the original. Spending 18 dollars for something that is supposed to be Moana I expected it to be….Moana. Would I buy this tonie again? Definitely not and wish I could have returned it. It also didn’t work at first and had to figure out how to fix it.

We have been so happy with all of our Tonies characters. Our first Disney Tonies was the Encanto one which was so wonderful with all the songs straight from the movie. I bought this one in-store at Target, so I didn't see the reviews and man I wish I did. The singing voices are NOT the same ones from the movie. Maui's voice is passable even though it's fairly overly dramatic, but Moana's voice makes my cringe. No offense to the woman who does the singing but...it's not great. And it sounds nothing like Moana. Thankfully my 2-year-old hasn't noticed or said anything, but I literally sit there grimacing my way through the Tonies, waiting for it to end. Very disappointing!
This is the most cringe thing I've ever heard. Most of my daughter's tonies are pretty good but this one is the worst. None of the original voice actors. The rendition of Shiny is PAINFUL to listen to. The movie is beautiful because it uses pacific islanders to voice the characters but I genuinely feel like I'm listening to a high school musical remake of the original. If you have the rights to recreate the image and likeness of Moana, you need to make sure if the music is correct.
Most importantly, put toddler loves this tonie. It’s currently his favorite followed by Coco, then Chase from Paw Patrol.I have to laugh at the folks complaining about the quality of the songs. I saw below that Lin-Manuel sings most of the vocals on these versions and I suspect Disney refused to license the official versions from the soundtrack. There maybe a few places he misses a note or two but the reviews below are the equivalent of, ‘who’s this Beethoven guy, can’t play piano’. I will say this version of ‘Shiny’ shows how Jerome Clement was the perfect voice for Tamatoa :)
As others have mentioned the music is really bad on this one. I don't know how much extra it would have cost to get the original soundtrack but it would have been worth it. I hope that Tonies will take this into consideration with future tonies. If they are going to rerecord the quality needs some major improvement at least but it would be ideal to include the actual songs as these are officially licensed products that is what we expect. Customer support has been telling people to listen to the audio clips before purchasing but the clip is of "you're welcome" which is not that great of a song anyway so you can't tell how bad the rest of the songs are based on that. My daughter (3) loves the story on this one but she skips the songs.
These reviews are silly! My kids are 5 and 7 and seriously they don’t care that the songs are sung by different people. The songs are fun and if a kid likes the movie and the songs then they aren’t going to care! The singers have great voices and the narrator has a voice that draws you in to the story. Parents are writing these reviews and using their children as an excuse to not like the tonie. My girls love it and that’s really what matters.
We got this for my daughter for Easter as she loves moana. All of our other tonies, including our frozen one, are amazing. This one is NOT. The songs are not the original voices from the movie. The voices on the tonie are not as strong and not very good to be honest. I wish it had been clear it was not the movie version. I never would have bought it. Beware!
I bought this tonie for my kids (4 & 6)who love the story and original songs. The songs are not the originals from the movie but someaweful covers. I mean, the kids listen to the songs for the first time on the tonie and after a few seconds go "what is this, why does this spound so weird?"Now everytime they listen to it my oldest laughs his head off during the songs (shiny is the most horrfic of all of them) and the younger one gets upset because she usually likes to sing along...The story is told by a narrator, not really any dialogs, but ok
