DMC Stranded Cotton - 3864

Etsy wants a typed review on sewing thread...so here you go! It's exactly what you ordered: DMC thread, so it's always of excellent quality - and shipping is so fast! And on top of that? My local crafting stores always have messy thread sections that are disorganized, and are always out of stock on any color I need (310 being notorious, but you'd be surprised what other colors are never in stock)...so it's a boon to be able to come back to JD and know I can find what I need, and have it in time to dig into that new project I'm craving to break into! (Expect to see this review a few times...I've bought a lot of thread, ha!)

DMC floss

For several years I have spent 2-3 hours per day cross-stitching. I have only used DMC floss. That said, I am very happy with this brand. My biggest problem is that stories that sell floss are often out of what I need, Of the four stores I shop for floss, Michaels (in Woodbury) has consistently been the best for keeping floss in stock. I have used 3 different types in my projects. Regular cotton floss. metal coated floss (gold) and nylon floss (gold and silver). If you are contemplating a project using metal floss, be aware that after 8-10 stitches, the metal will start flaking off and you will have to throw it away and start again with new floss. Embroidery floss to make all dreams come true

This one particular skein of embroidery floss was the most highly sought after color in our home of homeschooled creative kiddos. Mama wanted to use it for a birthday project for a family member. Sister wanted to use it for her first ever independent embroidery project. Brother thought it would make the perfect color in his WW2 tank embroidery project. Yep you read that right. Our son thought this color would perfectly define the features of a PC3 J1 tank. No “bless this home” project. No cute puppies looking at you from a basket. If there ever was a color of embroidery floss I undervalued as a whole- it was this one.

Its a single skein

This isnt like other floss Ive used. This floss is stiff and slick rather than soft and smooth. I used this to crochet amigurumi eyes. The stitches didnt tighten up as easily and is so stiff that the stitches come loose as soon as tension is eased. The result is gappy because of tension variations and also because the slick texture of the floss. I have only done embroidery a couple of times in the past so i imagine this floss may be ideal for some projects. It worked ok for my ami. In the picture, Junior's (left) eyes are made with this floss and Duo's are with a floss of a different texture. Im not great with eyes so the results may be partially due to my own inexperience.

My kind of Floss

I always prefer to use DMC Embroidery Floss to other brands. The colors are so numerous that you can get shade variations that allow you to find the one that exactly fits your project. The regular floss does not shred or pile as you pull the thread through the Aida cloth or other material. One skein can last for many different projects depending on your use of that color. I will stick with this brand.

Out of my color!

I usually buy floss from Michaels for counted cross stitch. There was a particular DMC color I needed and when I went to the correct bin, I saw just one left so I picked it up. After paying at the register and going out the door, I took a second look at the floss. It was not the correct DMC number. OOPS!! When I returned to the store, the cashier graciously allowed me to double check for the DMC number I needed. Unfortunately, there were none that matched the number. Apparently, someone previously had put the wrong floss in the bin and I picked it up. I also noticed that some of the other bins had misfiled floss. Oh well, I did get my money back, but then I had to go to another store.

Perfect vibrant pink!

Perfect shade of vibrant pink! I used this on a friendship bracelet for a strawberry cow design and it was beautiful. I wasn’t sure it would work out with the other colors I chose at first but the more I worked with it the more I fell in love with the color. DMC threads are always a pleasure to work with. They’re soft and durable and don’t break easily like other brands. I always like to work with DMC if I can. I do wish it was a bit cheaper per skein though since I go through so much.

Review of DMC Stranded Cotton

I have done cross stitch for many years and had amassed are large quantity of DMC cottons. I decided to use them up and started a large cross stitch pattern from one of the books I have but found I did not have quite enough of some of the colours. As I find it difficult to get out and about now, and have shopped with you for knitting wools and saw that you sold the DMC threads it was easy to order them from you. Delivery was very quick ,and I must say the price was better than our Hobbycraft store. I shall noe be buying all my embroidery supplies from you. Thank you.

Saved by the thread.

In a moment of whimsy, I decided to embroider sunflowers around the buttonholes of a rather drab green linen dress. I started well but it soon became evident that I would be running short of my yellow threads. To complicate matters, I had used two different shades of yellowy orange or orangey yellow. A quick visit to the embroidery thread stand in Hobbycraft and the problem is solved. Onward with the sunflowers. . . .and I must admit they are very pretty and they brighten up the dress remarkably.

Terrible shipping experience

This is the first place I’ve placed an order and had that one order sent to me in multiple shipments in a span of three weeks. Like, serger spool of a green color in one shipment, another shipment of the same color in another shipment, a spool of khaki thread in another, two spools in a third, and my DMC threads in another. I think I might have gotten five different shipments for one order. The DMC threads came to me in the worst state of packaging. It was in a poly bag, and the threads were not in any protective bag or anything. The poly bag had holes and rips in many places, and the embroidery threads were frayed from the damage. I will continue to buy my embroidery threads from the DMC official site.
