Just like a reverso or an ATC guide, but the ability to pivot the device (combined with a prussik) has proved a fast way to start lowering someone.

Had a Gen 1 Reverso which I used exclusively for 15 years. Recently had to lower a buddy under tension and getting the Reverso to break under pressure and change its angle to allow the rope to move freely was a real challenge. The next day I went bout the Pivot. A no brainer. It's design solves what I was needing trying to lower my climbing partner. If you are debating an upgrade to a Reverso or Pivot? Pivot all the way baby!👊🏼

I've had one for two years and it shows similar wear to other belay devices, so durability is normal. It's middle lane of weight of tube style devices, so practical to carry everywhere, and has the pivot function that drastically helps with lowering someone while you're belaying in guide mode. Adds extra piece of mind and it's a great purchase.

Probably the most versatile device you can have.Gorgeously smooth on top rope, with zero-effort braking power. Super reliable on lead, and I trust it more than a GriGri. You can mount it multiple ways to set up all your different belays for multi-pitching, and it's fantastic to use for rappel.Seriously, just buy it.
Very easy to use. Provides smooth belaying and lowering. The pivoting arm does great in guide mode.
This simple change of adding the pivot point adds a layer of safety and convenience when belaying in auto-block mode. Love DMM quality and innovations, never disappoints. Far superior to BD ATC guide or Reverso.
Works really well. Easy to set up. And very easy to release in order to lower a climber. The hole to insert the carabiner to use as a lever to lower is quite small. (I’m not sure whether this is the case with similar devices from other brands. ) So I had to use a smaller carabiner (off a QuickDraw) to fit through to give me the lever that I needed. But I’m aware of that now.Seeems well made and (obviously) works well in normal belay mode.Feels nice and light to me too.Would definitely recommend.
This may be the best tube-style belay device on the market...In its lead-belay and rappel mode, the Pivot is nearly identical to most tube-style devices on the market, (high-friction/low-friction modes, compatible ropes diameters, etc.) but where it really shines is in its auto-block mode on multi-pitch climbing. The innovative pivoting arm allows for much easier lowering of a second (when compared with similar devices) should they require it when following you up a pitch. The pivoting arm also ensures the device hangs in the optimum orientation while bringing your second up to you. While it claims to work with ropes up to 11mm, personal experience has shown that even ropes as small as 9.8mm will experience a fair amount of friction when belaying if the rope is ... (especially in auto-block mode) 9.5mm and below seems to be the sweet spot for this device which works well with the current trend for skinny cords.A tad expensive, but so is good beer...
I bought this for my first multi-pitch trip and this piece of gear is awesome. The pivot function adds ease of use when you need to unload after a fall in guide mode, and as with everything DMM does, it is a fine piece to add to your kit. Like I said, dropped it off a cliff, immediately bought another one. Anyone climbing in the Traps, there is a free Pivot floating around somewhere at the base of Betty, I couldn't find it.
Works perfectly with Clepsydra S carabiner, both in normal belaying and guide mode. The huge hanger hole is surprisingly nice for rotating a biner through if you've used the smaller opening on an ATC. It's just slightly less fussy, does not get stuck on barrels. The release hole is compatible with smaller noses on biners like other belay devices, it doesn't work with BD HoodWire gate biners or WC Heliums, though can also use a dyneema sling.

DMM Pivot Belay device-Lime
The Pivot belay device delivers confident belaying and effective stopping power whether used in guide mode, or belaying from the waist. Guide plates have traditionally been difficult to operate when lowering seconds. The Pivot's shackle reduces the force needed to initiate lowering, increasing control of the speed at which you lower your second. Belay device gives controlled belaying, lowering and abseiling This device increases rope control when belaying, lowering a partner and abseiling. It is a fundamental part of a climbers rack. Pivot enables guide mode and gives easily controlled lowering of two seconds The pivoting shackle moves the point of leverage when initiating lowering of your second. This vastly reduces the force needed to initiate and control lowering of one or two seconds, making guide mode more user friendly. High performance internal geometry gives greater rope control Hot forging and CNC technology is used to shape the internal structure of the device to give greater control over a wide range of ropes. This is especially evident when using modern, small diameter ropes. Two friction modes for varying applications In its standard orientation, this device gives confident control over a wide variety of rope diameters. It can also be flipped 180° for smooth abseiling on thick or low stretch ropes.
