The design of these adaptive shoes are perfect for AFOs. We went with extra wide to accommodate them and sized up to accommodate the length of the brace. My son can finally out on his shoes independently while wearing the AFOs. Until we had these shoes he was not able to wear his AFOs due to lack of support for shoe changes. Now he can not only wear them but do so independently.

Excellent design allowing the individual to independently put on their shoes.Suggestion:Reinforcing the sole of the shoe. Due to the irregular gate of the individual after only 3 months there was a whole in the ball of the foot area. It was unfortunate as the rest of the shoe was still in perfect condition. Because the sole is not out of genuine rubber the shoemaker was unable to repair.Thanks for considering this option in future designs.

Excellent boots. Very easy to put on.

The boots are excellent. My daughter loves them. She has trouble with the laces maybe if the boots just zipped up with out having the laces would be great. I think this would help with the amount of sand that my daughter brings home in them. The zip makes it easy to clean them out but I have noticed that the sand get caught under the white fabric under the innersoles. We have only had the shoes for a few weeks and already there is a large build up underneath this fabric. It's extremely hard to get out as you would have to undo the stitching to get to all of it which would make the shoes fall apart if you did. Other then that the boots are fantastic. Will be ordering another set once she grows out of theses ones

Good concept….terrible execution!

I unfortunately have had a terrible experience with Billy Footwear. My seven year old son requires SMO’s (foot/ankle braces) and it has been nothing short of utter mystery attempting to locate a pair of shoes wide enough to accommodate them. I first ordered two pairs (indoor/outdoor) directly from Billy Footwear in a size 5 extra wide following their size chart provided. Because we live in Canada 🇨🇦 we had to pay $100 to have them shipped in under a months time. Already not impressed. When the shoes arrived, they were SO huge it was laughable. We sent the shoes back at our expense and are awaiting a refund (which will not include the shipping in either direction). Feeling very downhearted we thought that maybe ordering a size down in both length and width would do the trick. We searched on a different companies Canadian site for Billy Footwear but couldn’t find his size so we went looking on the American web site of the same company and we’re in luck. We figured ordering from there would be better due to the fact that if the shoes by chance did not fit, this other company would at least provide pre paid return shipping. The shoes (two pairs) arrived in one size smaller in both size and width. The shoes were SO small that we couldn’t even fit our sons braces inside them at all. It also needs to be said that the zipper issue with the first pair was not an isolated incident as these shoes also had zippers unusable by our almost eight year old child. Very stiff, rigid and was already showing signs of wear. We love the concept of the shoes but the execution was awful to say the least. Following the size chart proved to provide incorrect sizing. We lost $200 in shipping with BILLY FOOTWEAR. The quality of the product was subpar. My son is left with zero options and in turn cannot wear his much needed ankle/foot braces. A bad experience all around. The only positive here is that at least the other company didn’t charge us an arm and a leg for shipping. Buyer beware!!

Great for AFOs

I needed shoes for my son who was getting fit for AFOs. After a ton of research and other's opinions, I had heard so many great things about Billy Shoes. I bought a size up from target but they seemed like a pair he would have to grow into- so I got onto the Billy website and ordered his normal size but in wides- they fit perfectly! Also, since I bought from both target and the Billy website, I can say the ones coming from the Billy website are way better quality (higher price though also). The material is thicker with better stitching, the soles are better rubber and overall, I can say I recommend Billy shoes. Great shoe, minor issue, CS amazing

We have now purchased 4 or 5 shoes from billy footwear. They truly are the most accommodating shoe for what we need with our toddlers orthotics. Sometimes the zipper can be an issue but as long as the size is correct and you open the laces all the way and tie them after the zipper is closed it is easy to navigate. We had a slight issue with one pair, and I must say the customer service is unbeatable. Anytime I have dealt with CS the reps have been beyond helpful. We will continue to purchase billy shoes and recommend them to anyone who is looking for an adaptable shoe!

Helpful but not comfortable

These are very thin and harsh on the inside - I couldn't wear them without long, thick socks or my feet would be covered in blisters. I have had an ongoing arm injury and just had an elbow replacement. I tested these prior to surgery and when I am able to use both arms, the cons outweighed the pros. However, post surgery while I can't use my dominant arm and my mobility is limited, these are fantastic when someone else is dressing you. Especially in winter these are much safer and warmer than slip on shoes. I am glad to have them in my immediate recovery period and that they are an option for people in my and similar situations - however the comfort levels need improving.

I'm so glad my son's orthotic maker mentioned this brand! I was skeptical because he's young and it's hard to justify spending more on a pair of shoes that I don't know how long he'll wear, but to be honest we had no other options that he could evenfit his ankle foot orthotic into. I was disappointed at first because I didn't realize you could order two shoe sizes and thought I was going to have to pay for two sets (my son only had the orthotic on one foot) . I'm so grateful the team reached out after a returned order to tell me that I could order two separate sizes without paying any extra! They even had a video tutorial on how to do it so it wasn't hard to do at all. With a toddler that's always on the move, these shoes have definitely been a life saver, easy to put on and can do it quickly so your child can continue to explore. And surprisingly great grip. Good for bush adventures and normal day to day activities. And the style is amazing and very cute..Communication with the business was also pleasant and they are beautiful human that understand. Over all a top quality shoe. Definitely recommend. Will be purchasing for years to come.
