The Made in England Vintage collection is handcrafted by our Wollaston factory cobblers using original construction techniques — plus Quilon, our rare, original specification Dr. Martens leather. Thick and corrected-grain with a matte finish, this leather only gets better with age. This unisex 1460 boot is made with all the classic Doc's DNA, including grooved sides, heel-loop and yellow stitching. Built to last, it's made using one of the finest methods of construction: the Goodyear Welt — which means the upper and sole are sewn together in our heat-sealed z-welt stitch. The boot sits on our iconic AirWair sole, which is oil and fat resistant, with good abrasion and slip resistance. Our Made in England footwear may come with either a gold or yellow scripted heel loop.

Bought my first pair of 1460s in the mid '80s and had many a great times in them. Unfortunately they went missing in one of the many moves in my twenties and I foolishly never replaced them. Flash forward to today when on a whim I decided to treat myself to a new pair.If you're replacing your old Docs, go for the Made in England version. They're worth every penny. Sizing is as I remember it. I thought my old feet would require a size larger but was wrong. I'm a consistent 6 1/2 (37) with wide-ish feet so I ordered a 6 and a 7. Turns out the website is right when it says size down if you're a half size.As for breaking them in pop for the Wonder Balsam when you order your boots. Follow the directions and you will be comfortably wearing your boots in almost no time. ... MoreBought my first pair of 1460s in the mid '80s and had many a great times in them. I applied WB every morning for three days, let it absorb for a few minutes and then wore the boots with thick socks while working from home. Worked like a charm and I was out stomping blister and pain free in less than a week.

My son just thanked me AGAIN for his amazing boots we gave him for Christmas! He says he doesn’t knows how he lived without them! Doc Martens rock! Thank you so much for continuing to make such high-quality products for all generations! My kids bought me a pair about five years ago when they said “Mom you lived in England in the 80s, It’s not right that we all have a pair and you don’t yet!…you need to have a pair !!!”I love my gorgeous floral doc martens from my Daughter ! I am in my mid 50s now and absolutely adore them! A boot for all ages! Peace ✌🏾 Lynn

These are of great quality and definitely worth the price. I can see that they will age will— like wine. The leather is of high quality and the gold loop is a great touch.Breaking them in was not too bad as I use them for working in a UPS warehouse, so they were like comfortable old shoes after 2 weeks. Would recommend the foam insoles Dr.Martens sells for added comfort, but they’re not necessary to enjoy wearing.Side note: I wear size 9.5 US Men’s, but they UK 9 (US 10) was not too bad. Especially after the insoles were put in them. Thanks Docs for not forgetting the “old timers” that want the Original Vintage boot from England 🇬🇧🤘

Ever since I was a cadet at the US Military Academy (I served with George Washington; or was it George Patton?), I have been a sucker for a nice pair of well-made (and well-shined) boots. These are simply wonderful. I wish that Martens came in wide sizes, as people's widths grow wider with age, but so does their disposable income, gov. I was able to get a boot stretcher to widen them out, and they are lovely and fit well now. Before I wore them, I spent some time to get them properly prepped. I sprayed mink oil on them, then laid a few coats of the Balsam Shoe protector I got with the shoes. then it was time for Angelus show polish (yes, if you invest in good boots, you invest in good tools to clean and shine them). These boots are well made. I did not want the high platforms, as I swore off the motorcycle years ago. The stitching is a work of artistic care. The leather is smooth and supple, taking a polish and retaining it well. I love the hot cotton ball to loosen up the leather, the warm pasted carefully rubbed in with microfiber, and the cold cotton ball turning every surface to a gleaming resilience. And yes, the boots are crackin' too! Rick from Colorado
Very disappointed!! I ordered these boots on the premise and belief that they were "Made in England" I've wanted DM's since I was a teenager, I'm now 59ys old. Because of the relative high price of this British Icon I've never been in a position to warrant spending such an amount on a pair of boots. Then I watched the Greg Wallace programme about how the boots are made in England!! Just 180,000 pairs a year and exported all over the world. I watched and thought a proper BRITISH!! success I what apart of that.Unfortunately there was absolutely no mention of the fact that this BRITISH icon is also produced in various manufacturing bases around the world and EXPORTED TO TO ENGLAND!! I still have a couple if weeks to decide.I am seriously considering Solovair or William Lennon boots as they are made in England. That is what I made my purchasing decision on , a product "MADE IN ENGLAND" not COPIED IN GERMANY and exported to ENGLAND!!I really think you are misleading people.
I love these! They are my first pair to wear which are mine! I have always borrowed my cousins.I was told being new that I should expect them to hurt as they would need breaking in, however I have worn them twice now for full day events and had no problems which has been great.I bought a size 6 which is my usual size and they have plenty of room round my feet. I have worn 2 pairs of socks each time though which has possibly helped with not getting blisters. They make them lovely and cosy to wear though.I bought the shoecare kit with them and followed the instructions before my first use. Then applied the Wonderbalm again afterwards.
I wanted some classic all-rounder boots for work and play that were sturdy and would last a long time. I was hoping to buy some “for life” boots but I see that DM’s have stopped that scheme now - such a shame as I really liked the idea of having a pair of boots that could be looked after for life!I ordered a size 8 expecting them to be big as I usually find I can get away with a 7 or 7.5 in DM’s. They are actually quite true to size and felt a little snug when I first tried them on - after checking the sole against my Chelsea boots they do look the same size so I think it’s just a case of getting them softened up to fit. They arrived beautifully packed and presented. They do look extremely well made and you can really tell the difference between them and my cheaper ... I would agree with other reviewers in that the sole looks thinner on these - not sure if that’s a deliberate design decision? I also bought some docs socks and have applied some wonder balm a few times to help break them in. They are slowly softening and moulding to my feet after a few weeks of wearing them around the house but I’m not sure they’re ready for a day of work yet as they’re still rubbing on the backs of my heels. I’ll probably buy some thermal insoles for them for winter as they don’t keep your feet that warm, but I don’t mind as I bought them for wearing year-round.Overall I’m really pleased them them. They look good, they’re well made and they’ll go with just about any outfit. Fingers crossed they’ll last a long long time!
I have owned Dr Martens boots for over 25 years and my most recent purchase of the 1460 Smooth Leather was a disappointment to be honest. The 'Smooth Leather' is thin and has a finish that looks and feels like plastic, the welt is finished poorly, the inner sole is completely synthetic and the outer soles are softer and lighter weight than my past boots. Is the leather split leather with a synthetic top coat these days? It feels like it.These boots cost £150 and I feel the quality is just not there anymore. Dr Martens, have you maximised profits over quality and now rely on your heritage brand image and bygone reputation to boost sales? It seems like it sadly.I use these boots for work and fear it may be my last purchase from Dr Martens. You used to be able to ... You used to be able to know you were getting a solid, reliable pair of boots that would last a long long time. Not the case anymore.I have some great memories of my Docs over the years but Dr Martens is a high street fashion brand now with a much lower standard of build on their main lines (unless you pay a much higher premium for the 'Made In England' line). It's quite sad. Thanks for the old times guys, but I think I'm done. All best.
Living in the far north of the uk, and remembering nostalgically the warm, dry, comfortable feet I had in my first pair of docs I had in the 90s, I bought a new pair of docs a week ago, waited patiently to mug the postman, they arrived! Weather was horrible so I excitedly put my left boot on, bliss! Perfect fit, so comfortable! Just as I remembered, a little tight across the top of my foot but okay. My right boot, ouch, instant pain across the top of my foot, okay they need to stretch, I had thick socks on, so I persevered, nope not getting any better, if anything worse each time I wore them. Out comes hairdryer to warm the leather across the top seam where the tongue is attached, not much better, so further investigation ensues. There is a little overlap on the ... There is a little overlap on the seam that rolls over when my foot goes in creating a hard rolled ridge that presses into my foot, extremely painful, out comes the painkillers. I know docs are famously stiff until worn in, but this is a whole new level! I love my docs but I don’t remember this being a feature of my original boots and not in my polleys either, clearly quality control is not working! I am now going to resort to my leather skiver to try and remove the overlap.
I bought the standard leather 1460 boots online, but I have really high arches, and the tongue seam was constantly pushing on the bridge of my foot. I bought them into the Nottingham store and the sales assistant recommended the smooth leather instead. I tried them on and with them being softer and narrower, they fit like a glove. Already the comfiest pair of boots I’ve ever owned. They did a straight swap for me, no issues. The quality of the boot is amazing, and I just know I will be wearing these for the next 20 years. Chuffed!!
