In the past, I purchased ankle work boots (ASTM F2892-11) for $107 which were well-made comfortable shoes with inside lining. Dr Martin no longer makes that shoe so I chose the closest option of ankle 101 Yellow Stitch boots costing $140 per pair. Upon receiving the shoes, I discovered they had no lining and were uncomfortable to wear. I paid $33 more for a much lower quality shoe which is why I returned the shoes. I hope Dr Martin offers the ASTM F2892-11 equivalent boots in the future or I will no longer be a customer.

Stiff leather always takes so long to break in! I truly wish the insoles could be removed, but in this particular pair they cannot without some SERIOUS damage to the boots! That's truly the only reason I would deduct 1/2 a star. As always they have the DM pinch at the top of the foot because the leather hasn't broken in as of yet. The solution, place the boot on a strong surface and bend the opposing way of the natural flex of the boot and voila! Pinch subsides!!!

Always well made. I haven’t worn these yet. I will need to break them in as they are stiff. I like the yellow stitching. Very expensive and that what made me think twice before buying them. I hope they do last a long time and soften quicker.

After ordering and sending back several different styles, I've finally found the DM fit for me. I wanted a shorter style boot but found that a 7 in most DMs were too big, but the 6.5 too small! I also have an older pair of DMs which are a size 7 and I've never found them that comfortable as they are also a little small. But the 6.5 in this particular boot was perfect. For a new pair of boots I was surprised at how comfortable they are, really spongy and soft on the insoles also!
Good parts: really stylish shoes and quality.Misunderstandings: when I first tried them on, I thought they were big and huge! The insole are 1 inch bigger than my normal shoes. And there are more room than what my toes need. I was gonna return but I went to DSW tried 1460 on one size smaller (their insoles are the same). Then I realized 6 is definitely too small for me. It might be nice to have half size smaller.Another thing is smooth leather is definitely hard and uncomfortable to wear at the beginning, especially front parts of my feet, but people say they are gonna break in in 3 months. I'm waiting for that. If you want comfortable shoes to start with, you probably should order Nappa Leather.Overall, quality shoes I want to keep.
These took about a week to break in, the discomfort came from them being lower (6 high rather than 8) so they pressed against the back of my lower calf/ top of my ankle. I did anticipate this this though. I have a few pairs of Docs, worn them for over 30 years. The leather is not what it used to be, I should have got the Made in England boots, but never mind. All in all happy with these. I have used the wonder balsam and ultra protector spray so I’m confident these will keep my feet dry through the winter. I’m on my feet for 8-10 hours a day, half of that outside. They are true to size, I am a five in every pair of docs. These do feel slightly wider around my toes to my older 1460s, which these will be replacing after 15 years!
These look great, and certainly no different to the non-vegan versions. There’s no getting over the fact you’ll need to break them in. For me it’s always the tongues on Docs; if I don’t wear heavy duty socks they shred my legs. No different with this pair, but the shoes themselves are very comfy. I ordered my normal size & there’s still a bit of room to spare. If you’re between sizes I’d recommend sizing down. Great purchase.
I bought these boots to wear with custom orthotics (3/4 length), so I needed to ensure there was sufficient room in them. I was also looking for boots with stiff soles to prevent excessive bending of big toe (due to osteoarthritis). I made sure I wore them in gradually (wearing around the house for short periods and then building up slowly), so that I got used to the boots and the orthotics. I'm really pleased with the 101s so far because they fit well with the orthotics, are comfortable to wear, and have helped to reduce the pain in my feet (both the plantar fasciitis and osteoarthritis pain). It's not a complete cure and I still need to wear other shoes/boots, as I don't feel comfortable wearing the boots all day, but they have definitely helped. Although it has a stiff sole, there is a good level of cushioning, which helps to absorb some of the impact when walking. Delighted, fit was really good and they are very comfortable from the first wear. I thought they would take longer to lace, but the laces were sufficiently long not to have undo them too much.Will look forward to wearing them with EVERYTHING! Chose a traditional look and very happy with the quality and they are exactly as I expected.
The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is because they run at least one size bigger. The description did say they ran a little big but not that big. However, they ended up fitting my daughter, so she was excited to get an early and unexpected Christmas present! I on the other hand, need to order another pair for myself! The boot itself is beautiful, and she loves them!
