Dr. Martens Black 101 Smooth Lace-Up Boots

These are perfect! They give some height and they're quite comfortable! They are true to size. I am a size 7 and I got a size 7. They are stiff for me near the top of my toes where the lip of the shoe are sewn in. I used mink oil to soften up the leather on the outside. The 6 eyelets on the shoes are perfect because I'm rather short and it doesn't feel like the boots make my legs look shorter than they already are. Plus, the height helps and they look really badass! I was going back and forth between these shoes and the Vintage 101 Leather Ankle Boots and ultimately decided on the 101 Bex because of the added height, cushion and look of the shoe. My only reason for the difficult decision was because the Vintage 101 is better leather quality overall but I didn't want to wait to fix up the raw leather edges and grease them black. Overall, I love the choice I went with.

Protective kit does its' job as well.The only drawback I found is, probably, exclusively applicable to my unique pair of boots, not model as such. That is this thingy, inside part of the seam between shoe tongue and a vamp. In one of the boots it's sticking out a bit which really creates a painful feeling. Although, I can squeeze in my feet in a way that it pushes that seam up in a way that it lays over the fit and doesn't stick into it. Sometimes takes 3-4 wearing attempts to achieve it, but it works. My daughter loves her first pair of Dr. Martens. She loves the more platformed bottom on these and the black outsole. She has not had any issues with breaking them in yet. She wore them around the house and then on two long walks in the snow yesterday and I’ve heard no complaints. She is wearing them with heavy weight Darn Tough socks. So that could be making a big difference. We also got them a little on the big side in a women’s 8. She is an 8 but these seem to be roomy. I am a woman’s 8.5-sometimes 9 and I could fit my foot in them fine. Although I’d get a 9 if I were to actually own a pair. She is just 13 so it gives her foot room to grow and if not we can always add an insole.
