I have used Dr Martens Wonder Balsam for many years. It is fabulous for keeping your shoes and boots in great condition. I have even used it on other leather goods ( a jacket and a bag ) and it breathes new life into any leather which needs some obvious nourishment. A little goes a very long way, so it is excellent value and the applicator at the top of the tin is a wonderful touch. I pop mine in my bag when I travel so where ever I am I can make sure my Doc's are being cared for properly.

I first discovered Dr Martens Wonder Balsam on a trip to Salt Lake City in the USA about twenty plus years ago. A chap was promoting the product in a city centre shopping mall. I decided to buy a tub of the product and was really impressed in the following ways: i.) It delivered a gentle, luxurious sheen to the surface of my leather shoes. ii.) The product softens and protects the shoe leather. iii.) It helps to obliterate slight scuffs and scrapes on the finished surface of my leather shoes, regardless of the finished colour. vi.) One doesn't need to use much of the balm to get a superb finish. In fact I'm only now coming to the end of the tub of balm I bought all those years ago in Salt Lake City. Highly recommended!

Don’t need it I returned two pair of shoes because they didn’t work out. They actually hurt my feet. Unfortunately the shoe protector was sent in a different box and ironically the container looked a lot like vitamins that I use on subscription. So truthfully I was not even aware that it arrived. I would have returned it with the shoes, however, it would not fit in the box with the shoes. So I cannot accurately review the product since I won’t be using it I’m stuck with it.… Good thing it was only $10. I’m still waiting for the refund on my shoes and it’s been about a month.
I purchased this balm with my 1860 8 eye crazy horse leather boots. I used the balm before wearing the boots out for the first time and it took very well to the leather upon application. It gave the leather a really nice Matt finish and although the colour of the brown distressed look did darken it did not detract from the overall style of the boot. I felt that it added an additional layer of protection and water proofing to the boots which was great because I bought them to wear in winter. Another great point is that I seemed to need very little to cover a large surface area of the boots (ideal for mens UK 13 boots). This balm is the best shoe cleaner I have found. I’ve used it on two pairs of DMs already and my daughters leather school shoes. (These have proved impossible to keep nice until we found this balm) The school shoes are constantly scratched and faded on the toes. The balm covers this, brightens them and nourishes the leather. It’s a no brainier! I’m definitely going to buy more if this. I don’t know why I didn’t but it before.
I was new to Doc’s so thought it would be a good idea to use the recommended treatment?So pleased I did because this product seems to be exactly the right formulation for my new shoes.I applied carefully before wearing them and it immediately enhanced the colouring of the leather, giving it a richness of finish.I left them overnight prior to first wearing of the new shoes and the leather felt immediately supple and were comfortable from the off.After a full day’s wear, I applied again and the balm immediately covered any minor scuffs.All that was required for the next wearing was a slight adjustment to the lace tension and the original comfort was returned.Also, a little goes a long way, so I expect it will be great value over time.
Looks after leather well, and leaves it looking in good condition, however I found it to be much more useful in another way… If the tongue of your doc martens is squeaking with movement, this will sort that out. Even a small amount stops the tongue squeaking issue altogether, with no need to reapply. The tin isn’t filled all the way to the top, but you still get a good amount and it also comes with its own sponge stored within the tin. Definitely worth it!!
I grew up knowing how to care for leather as my father is a custom Boot Maker from Texas. I turned him on to Dr Martens in the late 90’s and he has loved them since. I just purchased Wonder Balsam for some very well cared for Vintage 939 boots and while the leather didnt appear damaged the wonder balsam moisturized it as I worked small amounts of the product in small areas until it was absorbed and OH MY!! The boots look just a tad darker but the leather……! Its super soft and supple. Its a great product for sure! My dad never used that product before mainly just his leather conditioners and neopolitan colored cream leather conditioners and such because he has a few 1460’s in smooth leather that are 20 years old and look like 6 months old and barely broken in!!!
Bought this for two reasons. 1) to care for my new boots and 2) to help break them inOnly used twice and can already feel a massive difference.I apply a even but generous amount at night and leave it.It's mainly the heels that are stiff but I can feel a massive difference. Well worth the money.Ontop of that the boots look amazing. Gives a nice matte shiny finish.
