Dungeons & Dragons - Adventure Begins

This game a very streamlined set of rules that introduce many of key concepts of role playing games without making it feel too complex. There is plenty of room for imaginative problem solving, but each card provides clear and simple resolution based on a die roll rather than any judgement calls. My daughter is 8 and has had some exposure to the concept of RPGs already, so is really able to enjoy the game.

This is an awesome wee set up that easily introduces people to the concept of DnD. All the characters, creatures, and dungeons are set up ready to go in a multitude of arrangements. Great replayability and easy to add house rules + own custom charcters/story ideas!

I have been playing role playing and board games for more than 40 years. One of the best things about playing those early TSR board games was the stories my friends and I would create around the game. With Adventure Begins that same game mechanic is available to players in just seconds. The rules are simple and straight forward. They allow players to jump right into the action giving them the ability to take on the Hero and DM roles.Pros: Build quality is outstanding. The plastic deck holder, health trackers, and damage clip are quality items. The parts tray included in the box is a nice touch to keep all the components in good condition.Con: I would have liked to see one page on encouraging adventures to create Boss, Hero, Monsters, or Back Pack items. However, this leaves space for possible adventure expansion packs in the future, or an Advanced Adventure Begins offering.One item I personally would like to see included in the box would have been a catalogue of other adventure game content offered. It would have been a nice nod to those TSR boxed adventure board games of old. Holding those printed catalogues always sparked excitement for more adventure with my friends. I think Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro would benefit from taking a cue from the past by adding a little printed material to the offering and introducing players to the wider world Dungeons and Dragons.
