This game a very streamlined set of rules that introduce many of key concepts of role playing games without making it feel too complex. There is plenty of room for imaginative problem solving, but each card provides clear and simple resolution based on a die roll rather than any judgement calls. My daughter is 8 and has had some exposure to the concept of RPGs already, so is really able to enjoy the game.

This is an awesome wee set up that easily introduces people to the concept of DnD. All the characters, creatures, and dungeons are set up ready to go in a multitude of arrangements. Great replayability and easy to add house rules + own custom charcters/story ideas!

I have been playing role playing and board games for more than 40 years. One of the best things about playing those early TSR board games was the stories my friends and I would create around the game. With Adventure Begins that same game mechanic is available to players in just seconds. The rules are simple and straight forward. They allow players to jump right into the action giving them the ability to take on the Hero and DM roles.Pros: Build quality is outstanding. The plastic deck holder, health trackers, and damage clip are quality items. The parts tray included in the box is a nice touch to keep all the components in good condition.Con: I would have liked to see one page on encouraging adventures to create Boss, Hero, Monsters, or Back Pack items. However, this leaves space for possible adventure expansion packs in the future, or an Advanced Adventure Begins offering. One item I personally would like to see included in the box would have been a catalogue of other adventure game content offered. It would have been a nice nod to those TSR boxed adventure board games of old. Holding those printed catalogues always sparked excitement for more adventure with my friends. I think Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro would benefit from taking a cue from the past by adding a little printed material to the offering and introducing players to the wider world Dungeons and Dragons.

Our whole family is extremely happy to play this board game at our family time. These days this is the only Board Game our family has been playing at our house. This game allows us to step into the exciting world of Dungeons & Dragons and this game includes monsters, magic and heroes of Dungeons & Dragons and we work together as we journey through the lands of Neverwinter. Our whole family including our kids enjoy playing this game so much that I have already recommended it to several of my friends and family with big kids and many of them have already purchased and played this game with their kids as well as their kids played it and they all love this exciting, thrilling and exhilarating game so much, just the way our family do.
I loved the look of this board game, it's colorful with some great graphics. The little pieces that represent your character are fun. The game takes a little bit to get used to and the read through the instructions, it takes some trial and error to make sure you're playing correctly. In the long run its a great game to play for a family night with a lot of imagination involved. I loved the gameplay and seeing what each person would do next.
I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons for decades and found this game to be a joy to play with my family. It plays like an adventure/dungeon crawling board game but adds basic D&D mechanics. How can you go wrong when you get to roll 20 sided die? It adds some role playing elements to the game that is also a fun way to ease players into that part of Dungeons and Dragons that can sometimes seem the most intimidating. Giving everyone a chance to play as the Dungeon Master also breaks up the monotony of just standard turn taking play. There are several “boss” monsters and enough encounters to make the game fun through lots of replay. There are several “boss” monsters and enough encounters to make the game fun through lots of replay. The different characters have different attributes and personalities that allow the player to have a different experience playing each character in their own unique way. I was worried when I first read about this game that the attempt to combine a board game with this level of traditional Dungeons and Dragons elements might result in a game that just missed the mark on both accounts. They nailed it. Highly recommend it for anyone…from veteran D&D players to those who have never played at all.
This is a great board game for a family to play. It is easy to set up and players can quickly learn the rules to begin play. It provides a good option for a role-playing game for younger kids. The characters and situations allow kids (and adults) to be creative and take on characters. The only real downside is that the box/packaging for the game is not that sturdy. I would prefer a heavier box that protected the pieces and held up better.
This is a great little game if you've ever wanted to get your kids into DnD. It simulates the experience nicely but is easy to understand. It really encourages the story telling aspect - you have to 'describe how you attack the monster using magic' for example. It alternates between monsters and scenarios as you move through the dungeon. It's all roll to hit with simple decisions. The way the rules are written each player takes turns being the DM but you could easily be the DM for your children while they played if the concept was new to them.
I have been a Dungeon Master for a few years, and haven't been able to actually go on a party quest in that time. For a DM I cannot explain the excitement I had to not know everything that is coming and to actually slay a dragon myself without weeks of work beforehand! This is a great pick up game for one of my favorite activities and an easy way to have my less RP-experienced friends jump into an adventure. I would love expansions to add more quest, monsters and character options in the future when I've memorized this game.
My kids are loving this new Dungeons & Dragons Adventure Begins by Hasbro board game!!!! My children are 10 and 13 and have had the best time playing this game!!! It was very simple to set up. It was very easy for them to learn the moves on how to play. It is great entertainment! My husband and I played a few times with them and had so much fun!!! This game is perfectly designed. The quality is great too!!!! I highly recommend this new game by Hasbro!
