I bought my Dyson heat/cool fan two months ago and first impressions were great. It would heat a room quite well and added a nice aesthetic to the room. But after 2 months already it is making high pitched noises and even gives off a buzzing sound when switched off. In general, the fan is not any quieter than another fan would be. Setting the fan set to 1 speed at night is still noticeable but the sleep timer is useful. The biggest advantage I see this fan having over others is its design. It looks cool but other than that holds no advantage over any other fan on the market. Not worth the outrageous price that is being charged everywhere.

I received my new Dyson Hot + Cool fan this morning. I was expecting a fan which would heat as needed to keep the room at the desired temperature. Instead, it's effectively two completely separate devices, a fan and a heater, in the one unit. That is, if set on heat, it will automatically switch off once the desired temperature is reached and does not continue on in fan mode. Instead, one has to manually switch to fan mode using the remote. This means it's useless for keeping a pleasant air flow at the desired temperature. I choose Dyson at its premium price instead of a cheaper alternative expecting a superior product. Maybe that's why it's called Hot + Cool instead of Hot *and* Cool ? Very disappointing.

Well ...having read so many reviews, I thought I would add mine.First, let me say from reading so many reviews this is NOT an Air Conditioner. Cooling and Air Conditioning are two separate issues. I see so many reviews complaining it does not get "Cold" as if it was an air conditioner. This does not contain a refrigerant like an air conditioner. The cooling is from moving the air around via it's fan without the heater portion running.I received my unit yesterday late afternoon and less than 24 hrs it is just what I was hoping for.I live in a 42 foot 5th wheel trailer. Hoping to see my electrical bill reduced some.This morning it was a bit cooler than usual so I turned the 'heat" on set it at 73 degrees and left the fan pointed to the rear living area of the coach. Within a relative short period of time the whole coach was evenly heated and the fan turned off.The fan ran all night near my bed and I did not notice it. A very nice low level white noise. Much quieter than the overhead ceiling air conditioner.I will say if your an existing Dyson customer it is an advantage to purchase through them again. You may want to check with sales for further info.
Purchased a year ago. Used in the back rooms of the house away from the heatpump. This has no only given us the same feels as the heatpump, but it has reduced our powerbill. We replaced an oil heater with the Dyson and noticed a much smaller bill. This year we have bought a second one to replace another oil heater, together the house stays at 18-22 degrees while outdoors is 1 - 6 degrees in the South island. Paradise at home... I love the product and it's worth every penny. Healthy asthmatics at home with no complaints.

First, I love Dyson. I have two fans and a vacuum and customer support has always been great. But this heater scares the heck out of me. It pulls a lot of power and the manual does not address the safety concerns adequately. So, WARNING: this product has a short cord and can only be plugged directly into an outlet - do not use an extension cord! In my case, I did not read the warning about this, which is buried in the two pages of small print at the front of the manual. (It's #14 and in smaller print than the warning that the controller and fan contain magnets. Yes, really.) In my defense, the instruction photos are big and inviting and make the print look like the Terms and Conditions when downloading iTunes that nobody reads. I actually started reading them, but ... Having studied the illustrated instructions, I thought I knew the basics and used a 6' heavy duty (indoor/outdoor) extension cord because the outlets are behind the furniture. Within minutes, the extension cord began smoking at the outlet and I needed an oven mitt to remove it because it was so hot. Where the fan plugged into the extension cord was very warm, but not as hot as the extension cord at the outlet. To be clear, NOT READING THE MANUAL WAS MY FAULT, but considering the fire hazard you'd think that warning would be large and red with another warning tag on the end of the cord just to be sure. I honestly shake when I think what would have happened had I fallen asleep or used a cheaper cord. After contacting Dyson customer support, I moved the fan to plug directly into an outlet and had no other problems, but psychologically the damage was done. Now I keep getting up to check it every few minutes and I'm worried about the safety of using it with the wiring in our old house. It's well made, works very well and is a great machine, but it sure pulls a lot of power. Which also makes me worried about what I'll find when I receive the electric bill...
I love the features included in this unit! It is quiet - so quiet! Gentle heat - love having the ability to diffuse the heat or focus it! We have an unheated crawl space under the living room, and for the first time we are warm and comfortable without turning the rest of the house into an oven. The next one we buy will be the unit with the air cleaner. It is very light and easy to move around, and has great safety features. Our dog loves to lay on her back and bask in the warmth! Generally, I find fans annoying, but not this Dyson! It does not blow you away or irritate you with its force. The Dyson is gentle, has no odours, takes up very little space, and is so quiet we forget it is on. Finally, we are comfortable without being wrapped in throws and heating pads, ... As a result, dust and debris will accumulate over time. In our case this affected the fan's heating function, prompting an H2 error.We attempted every troubleshooting step provided on Dyson's website to no avail, and ultimately we were unable to get this unit repaired because the problem occurred 4 months outside of the 1 year warranty period. So we were told by Dyson that our only option was to buy a new unit for full price. But I do not have confidence a new unit will even solve this problem, as debris will build up again, and ... It's a very elegant design but the buck stops there. I live nearly off the grid and I'm definitely going to have to spend more money on other products.. it's beautiful but it's "ok" at best in my situation.
