Each piece snaps into the other pieces so within a few minutes of opening the box, you are ready to use it. The vacuum comes with a power supply for charging and a mini soft dusting brush attachment. One of the design features I appreciate about our previous vacuum model is that it can be mounted to a wall for charging. This model cannot. That is really the only ‘complaint’ I have about this vacuum. It works really well — I would actually say that it works better than our previous model, which is supposed to be the stronger vacuum. We have a small dog that likes to destroy his toys. He will pull all the fluff out of them and completely rip them to shreds. We happened to have an area of the floor that needed to be cleaned because of this activity that the V7 took care of for us. There were small shreds, threads, dust, and human hair in the same floor area and the vacuum picked it all up like a champ. The brush does a great job of separating any strings or hairs that typically get caught and pushing it through to the dust chamber. This makes it very easy to clean up the vacuum. I did notice that there was some hair left on the brush, but I was able to pull it off quite easily rather than needing to cut it off with scissors or combing it out with a small tool. This brand is typically higher priced than others but the quality of this product speaks for itself. If you struggle with keeping floors hair and fur-free, this is a great investment. These stick vacuums have all but replaced our full-size push vacuum when it comes to cleaning our floors.

That's the reason I wanted a cordless "stick" type of vacuum cleaner, for light vacuuming and working on stairs, in cars, etc. I had one previous cordless vacuum from another manufacturer, it looks very similar to the Dyson but the Dyson outperforms it. The Dyson comes with two attachments, a wide one for doing floors and a narrow one for getting in tight spaces and doing things like upholstery or in vehicles. After you've charged the Dyson and fitted whatever attachment you want, you can use it for quite a while, depending which mode you choose to use. There is a power setting slide switch, regular and maximum. Obviously on maximum you will get less time vacuuming before having to recharge. While vacuuming, the motor will cycle a couple of times and then stop, letting you know that the filter basket is full. To empty the filter basket, you pull up on the red lever on top of the vacuum. Be ready to empty it, because when you pull that lever, the bottom of the filter basket opens and dumps everything out. The documentation that comes with the vacuum is pretty minimal, you have to go online to get more information. There are two filters (depending on your model), they can be removed and rinsed in water when necessary.

We’ve had the cordless Dyson’s for a few years and this one works well and as expected. So far this one’s pieces connect and disconnect a little more smoothly and easily. I really like the non-velvety floor head, as dust won’t stick to the roller. It says the open sections are for hair not wrapping, but I did find that some of my mid-to-long hairs did get wrapped. Anticipating that any that get stuck will be easier to cutoff than the other smooth rollers we’ve had, though. This one has two settings and it did really well picking up just on the lower setting. A plus is that the lower setting is a wee bit quieter than the ones we’ve had before, so I like that. It definitely has a nice reach for getting flat to get under furniture. It came with charge, so we were able to start vacuuming right out of the box. I haven’t had to clean the filter yet since it’s new, the this filter pops out of the top. All in all, another great vacuum!

Great cordless vacuum!

Excellent Cordless Vacuum! However accessories is the weak point. I have another cordless sick vacuum, which I use pretty religiously, as well, however that one has a place for most of it's accessories, and can hook upon itself and store upright without the need to buy additional mounts or stands. Which this is the case here. The vacuum itself is high tier and top notch quality wise for what you pay for, especially for this brand. For this, you can stick it with my other brooms and I have to lay the engine down on the floor to charge. I mean you can leave the stick installed and prop it in a corner, but you risk damaging it, if it slips off the wall or whatever. This comes packaged really well, but like mentioned, the accessories seem more like an afterthought and also with no wall mount or anyway to neatly put it away takes away from otherwise a really nice vacuum. Out of the box, the vacuum was charged barely. However the suction did not let up and you could not tell that the battery was running out other than the LED on the side. I mean the suction is constant! Very impressive there.

Great job Dyson!

I am all about the stick vacs and this Dyson is no exception! Portability and power is what it's all about. It is just great vacuum and since it is a Dyson, you know it will live up to it's name. In the box is the Vac, non extendable wand, wall wort charger, 2 attachments and the usual paperwork. Assembly is as simple as it can get. Snap in the wand and your choice of attachment or the attachment directly to the main unit for a more portable experience. Before going off and cleaning everything, make sure to charge the unit first. There are 2 modes, standard and turbo that you can change to with a flick of your thumb. Storage is great for this Dyson. Since the unit charges with a wall wort and barrel charger, that means no docking station or anything else bulky. You can easily store the vac (unassembled or not) in a storage room or closet. One thing I did notice is that the battery does not seem like it is replaceable as it is part of the main unit. Also charging (mine was at 1 block of 3 at first) did take a long time to get to 100%. Performance was excellent. My house is 80% tile flooring and 20% carpet and this vac handled both terrains with ease. The main power floor brush had no issue getting edges and under my couch. The other brush attachment worked well on my desktops and cabinets. One thing I did also try was the main floor brush attachment directly to the Main Unit to create a mini-vac and cleaned out my car. My one and only gripe is that there is no trigger lock. For regular vacuum sessions this may or may not be an issue with comfort as you have to hold it down at all times. Also note, it is a hair trigger in my opinion (slightest force will turn it on). Cleaning and maintenance are user friendly. The switch on the top on the unit, when ready to empty, will bring the filter housing up and open the bottom of the bin at the same time to make sure everything picked up can be disposed of easily. The filter also pops out from top and can be cleaned with ease. Powerful and easy to use is what this stick vac is all about. I would highly recommend to anyone in the market for one.

Noisy, but well balanced

I have always been huge Dyson fan as I find their products work well and stand the test of time. This cordless vac reminds me of the one I originally purchased nearly 10 years ago. It is nimble and very well balanced. On a fully charged battery, I have been able to spot clean multiple rooms, multiple times (hard floors with a few small rugs). I have used other cordless vacuums and find them to be unevenly weighted compared to the Dyson. The body of this is somewhat heavy for its sized, but the grip, and overall design are very ergonomic and I feel it conforms to the movement of my hand and wrist seamlessly. This makes the weight less of a concern, which is a factor for me as it determines whether I can effectively use a product or not. I personally wish that the on/off was a switch rather than a sqeeze trigger and that the option for max power was a push button thumb trigger rather than sliding switch on top of the body. Also of note, this model does not include any kind of wall mount kit for storage/charging, where my previous model did. I do find the model to be a bit noisy especially on MAX mode, but it is not intolerable. The beater bar does great job picking up hair without tangling.

This is the first device from Dyson I've ever used, let alone owned, and the hype is real. Anywhere you go in the cleaning space, people talk about Dyson. The ads are everywhere. Surely something this hyped is overblown, right? Wrong. I've been blown away with this vacuum. From its ease of use to its surprising power, to its exception build quality, it's incredible. First, its ease of use - being cordless is a game-changer. I can walk from room to room in my apartment without stopping to reposition the cord and it honestly cuts my vacuuming time in half. The battery charge lasts a very long time (I've yet to run it fully out of charge), and the top unit disconnects so I can easily plug it in on my countertop to top it up between vacuuming. The battery charge lasts a very long time (I've yet to run it fully out of charge), and the top unit disconnects so I can easily plug it in on my countertop to top it up between vacuuming. Its cleaning power is pretty surprising, given how small the motor is. I have a cat with a thick coat and lots of carpet. Each time I finish cleaning and go to empty the vacuum, it's managed to pull up way more fur than I even thought existed. I never noticed that much in my old traditional vacuum. The build quality is fantastic, too. Each connecting mechanism locks with confidence; nothing is loose or wiggly. But the most incredible thing about this vacuum? My cat isn't afraid of it! She has always feared the vacuum, but this one doesn't phase her at all. Maybe it's that it's quieter than a traditional vacuum, maybe that it's smaller, I'm not sure - all I know is she doesn't scurry to hide in the closet when this thing comes out. That's a minor miracle! Bottom line - this vacuum gets the job done, and gets it done well.

Vacuuming Made Easier & Faster
14 October 2022

If you’ve never used a battery powered stick vacuum, you’re working too hard. The Dyson V7 Advanced Origin vacuum Is one of the lightest vacuums I have used. Easy to maneuver around furniture and items with a flick of the wrist and with its thin beater bar, it fits under furniture with ease. The battery provides about 30 minutes of vacuuming. At first, I thought this may not be enough considering how much time I used to spend vacuuming. But it turns out once you eliminate the time spent plugging and unplugging the vacuum, minding the cord so it doesn’t get stuck or knock something over, or moving things to vacuum around or under them, I found I could vacuum the house much faster than I ever could before with much less effort. Not that I have much battery left, it’s ... MoreIf you’ve never used a battery powered stick vacuum, you’re working too hard. Not that I have much battery left, it’s just about all used up. I do feel a bit of “Range Anxiety” having just one fixed battery and do rush more. A replaceable battery pack as used on cordless drills and other tools would be a welcome addition. This Dyson comes with a combination tool, the wand/pipe, and a de-tangling motor bar cleaner head. with hair removal vanes that clear long hair and pet hair from the brush bar. The motor bar cleaner head seems to work, no hair or strings got wrapped around the beater brush. Be aware that this model comes with just what is listed in the product description, the combination tool attachment. There is no crevice or other attachments which used to be standard. Nor is there a wall mounted charging dock. If you know you will need the attachments, you should look at other Dyson models that include them or purchase them separately. Not a problem for me replacing a well-used Dyson vacuum that came with the attachments which are all still in excellent condition. Not including the attachments keeps the older ones that are in good shape from going into the landfill and should help keep the price down. This seems to align with the packaging which was all fully recyclable cardboard. No foam, plastic or other environmentally bad packing material was used. Replace the wand with the combination tool and you have a very powerful hand-held vacuum to clean furniture, drapes, the car, or whatever you need one for. The normal/low power setting seems perfectly adequate for hard wood floors and low pile carpet. The High-power mode adds a very noticeable increase in vacuum power and noise. Nice to have when you need it, but I found I rarely did. The Dyson is a well-made vacuum. Very nimble and powerful. Everything fits and functions exceptionally well, which is what I have come to expect of the brand.

What else do you need to know?

I think Dyson has pretty much established themselves in the world of cordless vacuums. The V7 is still a great model and choice for those who want a top-of-the-line cordless vacuum. The Dyson V7 Advanced Origin will be replacing an older Dyson that I have been using for 10+ years. Dyson's build quality is always something I am happy with. My former lasted a long time and I have no reason to believe this one will not. It always does a good job with cleaning. Cleaning the vacuum itself is easy. In terms of usual Dyson criticisms, the trigger mechanism is always a point of controversy. With my first Dyson, I hated it at first. However, once you get used to it and realize you don't need a death grip to keep it activated, then you just don't mind it. However, once you get used to it and realize you don't need a death grip to keep it activated, then you just don't mind it. That being said, it would be nice to keep it on constantly without having to keep toggling the trigger. Also, there are no removable batteries for the Dyson which can make vacuuming for a longer period of time frustrating. Other cordless vacuum brands sometimes have multiple packs which is very helpful. The Dyson V7 also seemingly takes a while to fully charge. I do not have the exact numbers but it did kind of blow the air out of the sails when you have to stop and plug it in for a while. There is also no wall mount compared to some of the recent models so you just kind of have to push it into a storage closet. All in all, I really think you can't go wrong with the Dyson V7 Advanced Origin.

overall good vacuum with a few misses
14 October 2022

The Dyson V7 arrived double boxed. Opening, it was neatly packed. There are only a few pieces to assemble: Vacuum power unit Wand Powered floor brush Hand brush tool Charger I have used a few cordless “stick” vacuums, so have some experience with these appliances. As with any product, I felt this vacuum is mixed bag of pros and cons.... Snapped the unit together – the sections snap and unsnap easily. Then fully charged battery prior to using. The battery seemed to last a fairly long time during use, but also takes a long time to charge. Using the vacuum mostly on carpet, the vacuum power unit was reasonably quiet with a slight whine. The battery seemed to last a fairly long time during use, but also takes a long time to charge. Using the vacuum mostly on carpet, the vacuum power unit was reasonably quiet with a slight whine. However, the powered floor brush was a bit noisy. As far as cleaning, the vacuum did a reasonably good job for a cordless “stick” vacuum. Suction was good, and it has a “turbo” - high speed mode for added suction. The powered floor brush seemed to pick up pet hair and the nap of the carpet well. There is a “hand brush” that also has an extension for use as a short crevice tool. I did not notice any suction loss, but did not allow the dirt chamber to overfill, which can affect suction. There are 2 filters – a “pre-filter” that can be washed, and a final filter that looks to be a paper filter and I think it sould be replaced periodically. As far as cleaning – and picking up pet hair – this vacuum did a respectable job. The carpet looked good, with the nap lifted. The floor brush cleans itself so hair does not accumulate on the roller. Overall, does a good job, and could replace a larger corded vacuum. However, I think there are a few misses with this vacuum: There was no “trigger lock” for power - I found constantly holding the power button while in use, applied pressure to my thumb joint due to angle – it got a bit uncomfortable after some time Would have been nice to have some kind of charging “caddy” to store the unit and attachments neatly – maybe a wall mount Also a bit pricey for having just a few attachments and no caddy or storage ability
