e.l.f . Putty Primer Trio

So I expected to give this 5 stars but am giving 3- which on my scale is literally on par with average- and here is why... These jars in this trio are TINY- I didn't expect full size but because of the amount in the full size product I expected these to have a bit more product in them; especially at $9 (which isn't expensive but it's on the higher end for the elf brand). I liked the idea of trying each of these "putty primers" (I'd only used the poreless primer beforehand) and initially the size wasn't a deal breaker because I planned on using these in smaller makeup bags. I ordered my trio online and was kind of surprised there wasn't a barrier or protective seal of any type for the package as a whole nor the individual jars. As for performance, I decided to try them at the same time versus using one formula over my entire face. Basically I used the luminous primer on the higher points of my face (wherever I apply highlighter), I used the poreless formula around my nose and part of my cheeks and the matte formula for the remaining area. The consistency of each felt the same and there isn't any strong fragrance. I found using my (clean) fingertips to warm the product and applying the primers directly to my face worked better than a brush or blender. It is suggested to wait at least 30 seconds or more before applying foundation for best results; and I agree. I don't know how I've rambled so much as I thought this would be a short review (sorry)- but- the end result surprised me... the next morning I had a few small bumps around my nose where I used the poreless formula that my skin should have been used to as I incorporate it a few days a week in my makeup application and haven't had a break out in s couple of years (and it wasn't skin purging- just three annoying bumps that I was able to eliminate by the end of the day). So this discombobulated review is about the actual product size compared to the online appearance, the lack of sanitized packaging and the formula differences. Way too much writing for a basic primer trio but hopefully I can edit this down later. Here are pictures showing the trio on top of the standard size primer and the comparison to a U.S. quarter dollar coin.

I'm going to address the size issue straight away. Yes they are small pots. However I wanted to try the matte, luminous and poreless putties and for $9, it's a great deal! So if you can choose the one that you like the best or if you like them all at the most for all three it would cost you $18. It's a lot cheaper than many brands and works very well. I've seen people also complain about the consistency of the product. I'm able to swipe my finger in there and apply a little bit to my face at a time. I've learned not to use too much primer because that can really affect your makeup. I use the matte one on T-Zone, poreless for my face and layer a bit of the luminous on my cheekbones to accent my features. I am going to buy the full size of each one because it's honestly the perfect trio of primers! The luminous putty primer does have shimmer in it but I can only really see it if I look at my face iny magnifying mirror. I also love that it doesn't disrupt my foundation or oxidize it. It feels like there's nothing on your face which at my age is something I really need.

All primers are great, they are so small and cute. If you are unsure about which one will work for you then this is a great way to try all of them before commuting to a bigger bottle. However I ended up purchasing both the luminous and Poreless prime. Poreless is my fav for summer when I don’t want to look super shinny and luminous is for winter when I want the extra glow/hydrated look. This is absolutely my favourite primer and the poreless primer I use everyday. Love it.

Accurate review and wanted to like it.

This was such a nice concept to be able to try them out. I liked their primer in the pink tube and thought I’d like these as well.First day was experimenting. Only slightly impressed. Day two my eyes started itching and about swelled closed. I waited till cleared up with Benadryl and then tried it again very sparingly. Immediate reaction and immediately took Benadryl. This is a first for me. Never had issues before. Sad it didn’t work for me. Can’t say it’s a bad product, it’s just obviously not the one for me. Not sure I can get my money back or no, or exchange for what I know works in the ELF primmer.

Beautiful complexion

I bought these and I did as suggested I put the poreless all over the matte in my t zone and luminous on my higher cheek boned and I love the combination of these primers and for $9.00 they absoloutley cannot be beat. If you haven't tried them you should because 100% you will love these primers!

Excellent and affordable trial

I feel like you really get bang for your buck with this set of primers. There's plenty in this tiny jars to last you a good long while before the POA is over and they all work very well for their individually stated uses.Don't be afraid of the 'putty' connotations in the name. The consistency is sort of like a thick, solid, cream but once its warmed up between your fingers its quite lightweight and easy to work with. No real discernible smell and I appreciated the little bit of shimmer in the hydrating one.

Was kind of disappointed with the size but that's on me for not reading the description. (They are tiny tiny pots, way smaller than if you buy them on their own.) Poreless putty primer feels and applies the best on the face, and it somehow evens out the skin. I can't put it into words but it just makes your skin look better. Just using it alone w/o makeup already makes a difference. Matte putty primer is basically the same but feels less silky and is more matte, but I wouldn't recommend it over poreless putty primer because it makes you look a bit like a corpse in a coffin with makeup on. I am confused about what I'm supposed to do with Luminous putty primer; it just has a bunch of glitter on it. So this set gives you 3 primers; however, the containers are very tiny. You don't need much for every use, but each container is only 4g and one full size primer is 21g for about the same price as the 3 of these. However, it still prevents you from having to spend this amount in order to try them all, so there's definitely some value in a one-time purchase, but not any more after that.I like all 3 primers, but the luminous one is probably my least favorite. I didn't really get much benefit out of it. But with combination skin, I get a large benefit out of both the poreless and matte primers. It really smooths things out very well. Overall I liked these, but would not purchase the trio any more. I would get either the matte or poreless in full size, but probably not the luminous.

Happily Surprised!

This was the first time I'd ever tried anything putty before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. With the first use I was happily surprised by how amazingly smooth and lightweight the putty applied and how well it worked! The trio has 3 very small (I'd consider them slightly larger than tester sized) putty primer's; matte, poreless, and luminous. Excellent choice if you're not sure what you want or if you'll even like them. Also great to mix and match them on different parts of your face to create a very subtle "no makeup" contour.I often just use the putty primer's (sometimes alone, sometimes with a swipe a bit of setting powder over the top) and go, for a polished "no makeup" look. But if truly used as a base layer primer, it adds a beautiful hint of glow.The matte putty primer is a blessing for those of us who sweat a lot! I have no idea how this stuff works, but it definitely has magical properties. I've always been an extra sweaty person, but once I became postmenopausal in my late 20s, a full face of makeup was pretty much out of the question. No amount of setting spray could hold makeup firmly in place, assuming I could get the makeup on without having a hot flash! THEN I MET MY BFF MATTE! Holy bajeezus, y'all! This stuff seriously becomes one with your skin and somehow convinces your skin to play nice with the rest of your makeup! And using it on its own miraculously keeps you looking calm, cool, and collected, no matter what you're doing!The poreless putty primer is my second favorite and I use it in conjunction with the matte all the time for a nearly airbrushed look that takes well under 3 minutes!I love them so much I plan on buying full sizes of the matte, poreless, and trying out the acne fighting putty primer! Love love love!My only word of advice is to buy the putty applicator brush. It's absolutely necessary for any of this to work.

Not very good

Got this to try them out before committing to the larger ones. I didn't really like these as much as I thought I would considering how many people say they are awesome. I tried the pore primer first and my skin got so oily and shiny in no time. Then I tried the matte finish and it was just ok. Nothing special at all, made my skin less shiny and oily than the pore one but not by much at all and didn't do much for my pores. Glad I tested the small ones 1st. Won't even bother with the 3rd.
