Consider buying this only if you are very handy and have some good tools. Mine arrived with NO instructions. (I was able to download them from earthway.com.) Do you know what HHCS, FHPS, and HHMS mean? You have to assemble it almost from scratch, and believe me that is tricky. I had to enlarge 2 holes using a special abrasive drill bit, in order to get bushings to fit. Anyway the overall design and workmanship are about equal to the other brands: definitely not rugged. I'll see how long it lasts. It's a lot of money for something basically fragile. Maybe I should have gone for the cheaper brands.

The instructions look like they have been photo copied multiple times and its hard to know which direction is left and right while assembling. But the black and white diagrams do help to follow along step by step. I have read a lot of negative reviews about the cheap Scotts spreaders. This spreader has a nice bucket payload area and pneumatic rubber tires. I also like the way the edge protector is supposed to work. It looks like when you dont want it to throw fert on the left side you close off 2 of the 3 holes. I've solve this by drilling a small hole and adding a nut and cotter pin.The machine is metal and plastic but seems well made, with good tolerances and solid materials. It allowed me to carry much more weed and feed than my previous spreader and was easier to clean and dry. I should last for years.

Good quality spreader. This is about where decent quality starts. If you are looking for higher quality, like commercial grade, you will pay quite a bit more. True, it doesn't snap together like a Lego set, but if you are a DIYer and mechanically inclined, you should have no trouble. For those that think it's too expensive, go buy a cheaply made Scotts Edge Guard or Mini-Edge Guard, and let us know how that works out for you after one season. Unless you are only spreading grass seed and feathers, you'll be buying a new one every year or two.

This is handy for doing the edge of the sidewalk, driveway or against landscaped areas. It also helps you create a domination line against your neighbor's lawn (~lawn care nut). Plastic wheels tend to slip when the grass is wet. Small pneumatic tires struggle to move through a thick healthy lawn. My earthway makes the job easier. The QC on this item has seemed to have worsened. My brother bought this 2 years ago and loved his, but mine has issues with the plastic impeller where the rod drops through. Whenever trying to close the chute, the rod pops out of the impeller which causes the fert to continue to drop after closing and also requires you to reinsert the rod in order to open it again. I've tried to make adjustments to the machine but nothing remedies this issue. I plan to drill a hole in the rod and place a cotter pin in it to hold this in place, but for the price of this item I expected much better quality than this.
Dont waste your 35 bucks on the mini plastic version ,you know what im referring to. Purchase once and dont look back, The inflated wheels are a huge plus if you have an uneven lawn. Its better built and will serve you well. The aseembly is kinda Meh! Considering the prettly useless manual. Lookedup on Youtube ,fortunately there is one video -you can watch n refer to the manual to get a better understanding. Excellent packaging and delivery from ACME.com, no issues and hassel free.
The machine works fine however I did not get the calibration right, i wanted to do 2 passes to get a even cover,but it used twice the fertiliser than I needed for 1 pass so my advice is to make sure you you get the calibration right for the fertiliser you are working with,my advice is to work out how much you need for say 100m2 set the calibration to half the amount of fertiliser you need and then see how far it goes, it’s better to use less than to much you can put more on but you can’t take it off if you get it wrong 😑
Instructions not photocopied plainly. Assembly was good, described well in the instructions. I like the fact there is a conversion chart included to help with the application. Have always had Scotts spreaders for 50 years, but their last one is not a good one. Earthways spreader worked flawlessly. This is my first review I have ever done. Would recommend it.
after using other cheaper spreaders that work for awhile and difficult to roll on my grass, this is like finding cookies in the cookie jar. did spreader is not easy to install just using the terrible drawing they give you. I had to search YouTube several times to find better instructions. once I got directions, the actual process was quick and easy to put together. this spreader is worth every penny. I wanted to invest in it years ago but the price held me back. however, after buying the home Depot and Lowes models, decided in investing. glad I did.
