In 1777 there were eight licensed distilleries and almost 400 illegal stills in Edinburgh and the Port of Leith. As gin rose to become the fashionable spirit, Edinburgh distillers, like their London counterparts, produced gin from locally sourced ingredients. Then juniper berries, spices and citrus fruits arrived daily in Leith from all over the world. These exotic 'botanicals' were redistilled or 'rectified' together with the finest Scottish grain spirit in the time honoured fashion. Edinburgh Gin is a reminder of the days when Edinburgh was a centre of distilling expertise. It is batch distilled in 'Jenny', a much treasured Scottish copper pot still using traditional gin botanicals. Then The Spencerfield Spirit Company add extra Scottish Juniper as well as heather and milk thistle. Edinburgh Gin's clean citrus notes and aromatic Juniper make it the perfect base for a Gin and Tonic or Martini, not to mention many of the classic gin cocktails. The 1920's are known as gin's truly Golden era and in keeping with that theme, the bottle packaging has an art deco feel that reflects this wonderful period of cocktail parties and drinking sophistication. The label on the personalised bottle was very poor quality. The letters did not have any texture like the letters on a normal bottle of Edinburgh gin would have. Furthermore, there were black smudges / dirt in areas. Could have printed the same thing myself, and definitely not worth an extra £12 with the personalisation and shipping

Brings back memories of my vacation in Edinburgh where I first had it. Easy to drink, mixes well with tonic. Not overly aromatic. Very smooth.

Exactly what makes the perfect g&t. Harmonious, fresh and delicious. Great price too
Everything about this gin is great. It's very smooth and pairs great with any flavour of tonic but I love it with elderflower. It's a higher percentage than regular gin but that doesn't come across in the taste.... In a good way. Lovely bottle too which makes a great present. Go on, treat yourself.
We were having a girls weekend away so I decided to order a Gin I've not tried before & I wasn't disappointed it was lovely, a lovely crisp smooth Gin ..we had it with lots of different tonics and it went down with very very well with everyone .What's better I was able to send it directly to my friend who we were staying with so she got a big Wow when i arrived to open it for our weekend away!1 Gin to drink 1 Gin thank you for having us a & Prosecco because someone doesn't like Gin .. strange person haha
I was excited to try this new (to me) gin but was very disappointed. It has quite a bitter taste. Today I've tried it with elderflower tonic water which has improved it a little, but still not good enough to buy another bottle.
This is my favourite gin. It has a lovely smooth taste unlike some of the more well know brands which could be used as paint stripper. The blend of the botanicals used makes it very smooth on the pallet. I now have my mother, who also enjoys a G & T enjoying this. Using Feverfew tonic adds to an overall excellent drink. I like a slice of grapefruit with mine as opposed to lemon or lime. Gives a unique refreshing taste. Add the ice after pouring, stop it from tasting watered down.
A lovely gin not spoiled by fruit flavourings. Served with a quality tonic water, ice and a slice of lime (my preference) makes it a great summertime drink.
Having recently become a bit of a 'gin head' after nigh on 30 years without touching a drop of the stuff I've bought at least 20 maybe 25 different types since the run up to Christmas so I think I'm nicely positioned to pass a fair judgement here. This may not be the best top of the tree gin out there but then again it's not in the same price bracket as those 'exclusive' tipples yet it's still one of my favourites and easily in my top 10! Smooth enough to have straight on the rocks with a wedge of citrus and mint leaf to really bring the flavour out but also out of this world with some Fever Tree clementine and cinnamon tonic. You won't get many gins south of £30 that are superior to this original Edinburgh, if any, so you can't go wrong.
