The EGO 580 is easily my favorite battery-powered leaf blower. It has a turbine fan that performs better than gas-powered blowers. The high-efficient brushless motor delivers longer run times, low vibrations, and an extended motor life. This thing is super quiet, lightweight, and compact, which is why I love it.

580 CFM Blower with Some Shortcomings

This unit is a factory replacement for a four-year old 570 CFM blower that had its blower fan motor burn up. Since I had my receipt and registered the original unit four years ago, EGO honored the warranty and replaced my original unit with a new (tool only) 580 CFM blower. The 580 CFM blower seems lighter weight and is not as powerful as my last 570 CFM blower. Even the sound of the unit is different. I have used it for two weeks now and note that the switches for blower speed are also a little annoying. Overall I hope this unit lasts more than 4 years like the original as I use this blower about 5 times a week for about 30 minutes each run time. I'd still recommend the EGO line, but maybe a higher CFM unit.

I like the fine adjustment that I can get with the trigger, down to a gentle puff when working with dusty stuff, and even at full throttle the 580+ blower is quieter than I expected. I can use this without annoying my neighbors. My impression is that, when dealing with dry leaves on grass, the no-nozzle approach works best. But I can see how the fan-shaped nozzle would work well on flat, paved surfaces when you're trying to clear away grass clippings, sawdust, etc.A couple of things need work. First, the gap for your hand between the handle and the body is too narrow for my large hand inside a thick glove. Opening that by another ½" would be enough.Second, the blower's overall balance is slightly off, such that the nozzle wants to point down at about an angle about 30° below horizontal. That might not seem like too much, but in fact most times I wanted to blow away material that was about 4 to 6 feet in front of me, so I had to force the nozzle upward a bit to do that. This effort, rather than the blower's overall weight (not quite 10 pounds), led to hand fatigue, and I kept switching between my hands to keep going.Third, the 5.0 aH battery, itself, needs a strap handle on the broad side opposite the changing pins. It weighs just under 5 pounds, more than the blower itself, and it's too bulky to grab easily with one hand. Getting it into and out of the charger is straightforward but, because of the size and weight, requires two hands and takes more effort than it should.

I love this blower! I had an adjustable speed Toro electric blower prior to this, but being cord-free is so much better! I also had a Black & Decker 20-volt battery-powered blower, but it was wimpy compared to the EGO. The EGO is a little heavy with a larger battery on it, but I got the harness, which really helps distribute the weight. The battery life is very good - I can blow for several days in a row without recharging. It is pretty quiet - I rarely need to use it full-blast. My neighbors are happy and I am happy!

Great Machine With some Minor Quibbles

Well built machine. Moves leaves well. A little on the heavy side, so buy the shoulder strap to avoid fatigue in your shoulder, arm, wrist, and hand. Depending on how high of a speed you run the blower, the 2 and 2.5 ApmH batteries last about 20 - 30 minutes each (charging on the standard charger takes about 50 minutes), so size up the job you'll be doing and plan on charging your battery often if moving lots of leaves. Or, you could buy two or more batteries or a larger AmpH battery (the batteries are expensive) to do your particular job. The leaf blower base has a built in notch for hanging the blower on a nail or hook. I bought this leaf blower after having purchased and used the Ego string trimmer and hedge trimmer. I like the quality of design and construction of Ego products, the battery interchangeability system, and the fact that Ego warranties their machines for 5-years and the batteries for 3-years, which says a great deal about the product. Would've rated this blower 5-stars if the machine was balanced a bit better, the overall weight was lighter, and the battery run-time was longer for the 2.5 AmpH version. Otherwise, I am quite pleased with this purchase.

Incredibly Powerful and Easy to Operate, but Heavy

I had been using an electric blower for years. It did the trick, but I never used it as much as I wanted to because it wasn't convenient and the cord was limiting in range. I've owned an EGO string trimmer for a couple seasons now and have been really impressed. I finally decided to make the investment and pick up a 580 CFM blower. I went back and forth between the 530 and 580. I'm quite happy I chose the 580 for a few reasons. The variable speed trigger is a game changer. Also, if you want to put it on "cruise control", a quick one handed twist of the dial allows for it. I have two pieces of constructive criticism. First, it is heavy! Most of the time I use the 2.5 Ah battery from my string trimmer to cut down on weight. The 5 Ah battery it came with definitely provides the boost for large jobs, but it also adds almost three pounds to an already heavy piece of equipment. Second, the shoulder strap (separate purchase) design is quite poor. I bought it to help with the weight, which it does, but the strap connects to a single contact point on one side of the blower. If you lift the blower at all with the strap on, the strap will fall off your shoulder. If it gets too much slack, it can also come disconnected from the blower, as it just hooks on (not a closed loop). Overall I'm happy with the purchase. It allows for so many more jobs than my electric one did. It's quick and convenient, plus it fits into my growing ecosystem of EGO powered products. It's insanely powerful. Just beware of it's hefty weight.

As I have only used the LB5800 once, this review is preliminary. I will follow up with a full review later in the year. The positive aspects: The design is excellent. When the battery is attached, the leaf blower is well balanced so there is no effort required to keep the nozzle at the best angle. When using the speed control knob, there is no need to hold the trigger. There is a convenient thumb button on top of the handle that adds a blast of power when pressed. It comes with 2 nozzle attachments for a variety of clean ups. While not really quiet, the sound level is much less than that of a gas-powered leaf blower. I have the EGO LM2100 mower, so I did not need to purchase an additional battery or charger, saving big bucks. The negative aspects: With the battery attached, the unit is heavy (about 8lbs vs. 5lbs for a corded blower). An optional shoulder strap attachment helps lighten the load.I ran the LB5800 at full speed for ½ hour while clearing large debris from my driveway. The debris included the usual twigs and left-over leaves and 100’s of golf ball sized seed pods from the gum tree. These pods have spikes all over and tend to get caught in the grass and topsoil. The LB5800 did a fair job of digging out most of the pods. Some that were heavily embedded had to be loosened by hand first. The air speed was not high enough to move larger twigs. I think an attachment with a narrower opening would have more success. I don’t believe EGO makes one. It took some getting used to the shoulder strap attachment and positioning of the blower. However, after a few minutes, I became less conscious of its operation and experienced less arm fatigue. If you have trees that drop pods, seeds, nuts, etc. in addition to the usual fall leaves, I recommend the LB5800 or the LB6500. Otherwise, the less powerful versions might be right for the average homeowner.

My New EGO Leaf Blower
30 January 2022

Just received the blower for a Christmas Present. Instructions were easy to follow. Once I charged the battery it was up and running. Overnight it had snowed 3” and I decided since I didn’t have leaves right now to blow, however I had light snow to blow! I was amazed at the power it had especially with the turbo mode. In no time two cars were clean and free of snow including my pickup truck bed. My front porch and sidewalk completely free of snow in minutes also. Can’t wait till spring, summer and fall to come so I can try it out. I can see a future for many uses coming up to use the blower on. I highly recommend this unit for everyone! Thanks! Mark

The Village that I live in passed a measure that banned the use of gas-powered blowers. I bought an inexpensive corded blower as an interim measure until I figured out which of the battery operated models were worth buying. As it turns out, all of the commercial yard guys working in our neighborhood ended up buying the EGO 600 CFM backpack blower. They all seem to agree that EGO makes an excellent product, which sort of made up my mind.Up to this point I had been using a 14-year old Stihl BG85 gas handheld rated at 183 mph and 459 CFM. The cheap corded Ryobi rated at 135 mph and 440 CRM actually turned out to be pretty functional, but the cord was a no go and I still needed more power than it had. The cheap corded Ryobi rated at 135 mph and 440 CRM actually turned out to be pretty functional, but the cord was a no go and I still needed more power than it had. Of all the EGO models, the LB5800 handheld looked to be the closest to what I was looking for as far as power, so I special ordered one.The EGO's attention to detail is pretty impressive. You can tell that they spent a considerable amount of time in its design and manufacture. Unfortunately, it has one or two design choices that make me only rate it 4.5 Stars:First problem is the Boost Button - they need to get rid of it. The Air-Speed Trigger does not give me that much power, so I end up having to hold the Boost Button almost all of the time with my thumb. Not good. The thumb is better used wrapped around the handle where it can help support the weight of the machine.Second problem is the location of the air intake. Notice that their photos show a man holding the blower slightly in front of his body. There is a reason for this, and it has to do with your clothing constantly getting sucked into the intake. In an ideal world I would want to hold the blower straight down by my side, since holding the weight of the blower away from the body gets tiring. Unfortunately, they chose a design that put the heavy battery behind the motor and air intake, rather than under it. This means that I cannot hold my arm straight down without putting the air intake right next to my clothing, which then gets constantly pulled into the intake screen. This sometimes will happen with my Stihl or the Ryobi, but not to this degree. The solution is to hold the EGO in front of you, but this just wears your arm out sooner. Now the EGO engineers might have a good reason for placing the battery behind the air intake on this axial-flow design, but right now I don't see it.The performance of the EGO 580 is quite good, and it has enough power for my needs. Still, the EGO's superior numbers don't seem to translate into raw power, especially when compared to my old Stihl. With 121 more CFM, you would think that the EGO would outperform my old machine, especially with the right nozzle design. Unfortunately, when maxed out it falls a bit short. They really did spend a lot of time on the details, and it appears to be an outstanding design. I liked it enough that I decided to get rid of all my gas machines, and invest in the EGO Power+ Multi-Head system. So far, it seems to have been a pretty good decision.

Serious airflow…you'll discover so many uses!

Both their mowers and string trimmers are top-rated along, along with positive stories on customer service, something I always prioritize. So we bought an EGO mower, combo trimmer/edger, hedge trimmer and this blower. While all of them are great, this blower is my favorite! The amount of air flow is crazy and the ergonomics are spot on. It's well-balanced even with the somewhat heavy 5.0Ah battery (from our combo trimmer/edger).The 5.0Ah battery is more than enough for a full cycle of yard work of trimming, edging, blowing and sometimes hedge clipping. Along with typical yard duties, I use this almost daily to blow off our garage floor and driveway. I've also employed it to help dry my bicycle and car after washing. Being electric it's so nice to just be able to pull a trigger and it just works, no need to buy gas or deal with a cord. The only slight downside is that it's fairly loud, so I always use in-ear earbuds when using it. Since it's mostly high-frequency noise, my earbuds block it out well and I can still listen to podcasts at a normal volume. Not sure there's a way to make a blower with this much airflow without being loud, but it's definitely not as loud as a gas-powered blower.

Very Good Blower

I have Ego's backpack blower, 2 Makita blowers, and 2 gas power blowers that I have since sold. My big gas power blower had 30nM of force where the battery blowers seem to max at about 20 right now. Through a lot of brambly stuff or when things pile up too much or are wet you really see the difference. My solution has been to use the hand held blower plus the backpack blower at the same time. I looped a bungie around the backpack belt and this blower to give my left arm a bit of a break. It works well enough for me that I sold my last gas appliance. The ego is more powerful and has a longer run time compared to the makita. It is also better balanced, which makes me really prefer it. With the snow blower, back pack blower, multi head tool, lawn mower etc. I have enough batteries to blow the entire yard - need to switch batteries multiple times, but the rapid chargers are pretty fast and I have enough batteries - just not quite as convenient as gas. I prefer to cut the pollution/smell/noise and stick with battery power.
