Elvie Pump - Single Electric Breast Pump

$390.72

(2,808 reviews)

Elvie Pump consists of two single user electric breastpumps for pumping and collecting breast milk. Elvie Pump generates the suction using a sophisticated pump technology, making it virtually silent and reducing the size of the pump housing to fit in a standard nursing bra. The self-contained, closed system pump units simplify use and minimise the time required to clean parts between pumping sessions. The pumps can be connected to a free app that allows the user to remotely control the pumps, monitor the milk flow in real time and track the progress of her pumping sessions. Portable Elvie Pump is small and light and can be worn in any ordinary nursing bra and therefore absolutely hands-free. Including bra regulator to create additional space in the bra. Quiet Elvie Pump features a completely new pumping technique that eliminates unnecessary noise, so women can pump at their leisure anytime, anywhere. Uncomplicated It is assembled in seconds and has only 5 parts to be cleaned. No cables, no changing of clothes, no effort. Intelligent The milk quantity can be monitored in real time, the pumping process can be tracked for each breast and the pump can be remotely controlled via a free app. Best fit With 2 breast cup sizes and 7 intensity levels for more comfort and more choices. A third breast cup size is available as an accessory. Responsive Elvie Pump automatically switches from stimulation to pumping mode when it registers the insertion of the milk flusses.

The con to elvie and why 4 stars is that they are very finicky! If they are not used exactly as the troubleshooting guidelines suggest and if all the parts aernt bone dry it will affect suction and subsequently milk output. Another pro is these pumps are SO quiet. I’ve seen patients wearing these pumps and they never knew. The design of the pumps are also very sleek and they give u all the parts u need to get started (unless u need to order a different size breast shield). I think the technology is very innovative and I think it’s only bound to get better. I watched a million YouTube reviews on the elvie and many said that they don’t empty as well as a traditional pump. While I think there is some truth to that I have tested both my elvies and my motif Luna plug in wall pump and I found the difference in milk output to be negligible IF and ONLY IF the pumps are assembled and used exactly as recommended. If my nipple isn’t lined up perfectly in the center of the shield, I immediately feel a difference in the suction level and have to reposition to get the best possible milk output. That being said I still think these are well worth the money and I used my HSA/FSA card to pay for these pumps since my insurance covered my motif Luna wall pump. There are some cheaper alternatives on Amazon such as the paruu pumps which I’ve tried and it wasn’t bad at all especially for the price but it is loud much louder than the elvies and their shape is not as discreet. The paruu also has way more parts. I never tried the willow so can’t compare those but I had two mom friends recommend the elvies so that’s why I chose them and I am happy that I did. They also have a 2 year warranty on the hubs which willow doesn’t have so you could potentially use your elvies with multiple pregnancies if they’re close together. I feel the pros of the elvies outweighs the cons!

I have been trying to make them work, since I work as a registered nurse, but they have given me nothing but grief. I get more milk out of my cheap silicone haakaa in less time because you have to run them at low suction to reduce leakage. I also have been using my pump I got for free with insurance because I have had no problem with it. This is a terrible pump. The worse part is, you spend $500 & they will not give you a refund when you tell them it’s not working for you! I had to finance them bc the price is outrageous, yet they do not work!! For a company that says it supports women, you need better customer service. These pumps are the worst & I will be sure to share on every social media platform✌🏼

And being wireless and able to move around while pumping was amazing! I had to be careful not to tip the hubs once they held milk because they’d spill, but I used that as an opportunity to get my squats in. I definitely recommend using some sort of breast pad in case of accidental leaks which I found to be the only issue with the pumps.Any other issues I had were user error and I always found help/answers on the Elvie website. Their customer service is also excellent! One of my hubs stopped working about 9-months in and when trouble shooting didn’t work they replaced the hub promptly.Insurance covered a portion of the cost (about $120) but I would’ve paid full price, it was worth every penny!

Breast size = success or failure

(Breast size theory towards the middle of the review, starred)I started using my Elvie a few days before being induced to hopefully get the ball rolling contractions-wise. I had been hand expressing colostrum two weeks prior and producing 3-9ml (both breasts combined) per 5-10 minute sessions. With the Elvie I was able to produce 20-40ml (both breasts combined) per 10-15 minute session—and that wasn’t even breast milk. My colostrum stash is something I am very proud of. Since having my baby I’ve used it to collect colostrum to add to her exclusively bf diet when she was losing weight before my actual milk came in and now I use it to either drain the breast she doesn’t feed on if needed. Since having my baby I’ve used it to collect colostrum to add to her exclusively bf diet when she was losing weight before my actual milk came in and now I use it to either drain the breast she doesn’t feed on if needed. I also use it to help relieve engorgement. It takes <10 minutes to completely drain my breast and <5 minutes to drain enough where I’m comfortable and my baby can latch. During these times the pump collects the same amount my baby is eating (I can confirm this because of her being weighed before and after feedings at my lactation consultant’s office so they know how much she eats per breast). I have the Elvie to thank for my milk coming in and it’s wearability makes pumping anywhere possible. Plus it is virtually silent! **Now, here is my theory on how breast size may have an effect on its effectiveness. Before pregnancy I was an A cup, during a B cup and now I would say I’m somewhere around a large B/C. I am able to see where my nipple enters and line it up easily, and the pump cups my breast perfectly without squishing anything. It is honestly seamless. All of the nurses and lactation specialists I’ve talked to who’ve asked what pump I have, said that they wouldn’t recommend it for everyday pumping because A) not enough is expressed, B) it is hard to properly place on the breast and C) it may not drain the entire breast. When I told them my pregnancy experience with it and how it works for me now they have all been surprised! If your breasts are too large I could see there being many user issues, especially when wearing it…if the pump is shaped like a breast but significantly smaller than your breast it would make sense that it would not be able to reach it’s full potential. I recommend preemptively purchasing the 21mm flange ahead of time to try it out along with the two provided (24 & 28) because that could also have something to do with it’s effectiveness—if it is too big or too small for your nipple it won’t work properly and will be painful.

Disappointingly Noisy

I purchased Elvie Pump Double just under a month ago and have had constant noise issues - so much so I am currently awaiting arrival of my 6th hub.As someone who has at the time of typing experienced 5 hubs I can say pretty clearly that these are not quiet pumps let alone ultra quiet. To contextualise, my husband can hear them in the next room.It is also noteworthy that in my interactions with the service team I have learnt that they don't recommend using a dishwasher, steam steriliser or microwave sterilisation for the parts due to warping (even though there is no warning of this before you purchase and advertise using a dishwasher): "We have had a couple of reports of warping, and it does seem like it is an issue with microwave/ steam sterilizing/ dishwasher ... MoreI purchased Elvie Pump Double just under a month ago and have had constant noise issues - so much so I am currently awaiting arrival of my 6th hub.As someone who has at the time of typing experienced 5 hubs I can say pretty clearly that these are not quiet pumps let alone ultra quiet. Furthermore, we've tested sterilizing extensively, but these devices are all slightly different, and it looks like some of them are causing problems with the washable parts. Bearing this in mind, we are currently recommending cold water sterilization, or boiling a pan of water, reducing the heat to a simmer and sterilizing your washable components in that pan for 5 minutes maximum. We don't believe either of these methods will cause warping."The app is the other problem:- The pumps frequently struggle to connect or lose connection- Smart Rhythm pumping is not available on Android- The milk volume estimation is very wrong all the time, I've seen no evidence of it "learning" with time and have actually found that after correcting the volumes on the app it will change them back againOtherwise they are as convenient as any other wearable breast pump...

Don't buy these pumps
19 January 2023

My insurance covered the Elvie pump and I’m a FTM so I thought it would be a great purchase for when I go back to work, but I hate it and regret using my insurance coverage for it. I cannot recommend it. They’re heavy for starters, I already have small breasts so I feel like they just pull them down. Because they’re so big, I don’t have any bras they fit in - they’re even too big for the larger nursing bras I had purchased. The app isn’t great and trying to pair them with the app is even worse. I’ve been communicating with Elvie customer service for over a month because my pumps won’t connect to Bluetooth. If you can’t connect them you’re pumping blind - I have barely used them because you cannot change the mode without the app. I have also found that accessories are expensive. I purchased extra milk bottles, a pack of 3 was almost $35. The measurements on their bottles aren’t accurate - what reads as 1oz on the Elvie bottle is closer to 2/3oz. I find that they don’t fully empty my breasts even after a full pumping session, and there’s always milk leaked everywhere. On the positive side, they’re easy to clean, have very few parts and charge relatively quickly.

High hopes and 10 Months In...

First off, they have great customer service. First pumps that I received were damaged, after a few back and forth emails, recordings of what they were doing, they sent out new pumps. That was great, but for $500 for these bad boys you sort of expect that type of service. Well, when they work they are great. Suction is decent, not as good as my bag style Medela but these I expected to be more convenient. Which they are when they work.Therein lies the problem. The nipple shield size is severely lacking in diversity and if you use after market insert they all need to be trimmed and cut to make sure they are not causing suction problems. The parts are silicone and need to be replaced so often it gets to be a bit insane. DO NOT USE HOT WATER!!!!! I cannot say this loud ... MoreFirst off, they have great customer service. The parts are silicone and need to be replaced so often it gets to be a bit insane. DO NOT USE HOT WATER!!!!! I cannot say this loud enough. You cannot apply heat to these shields. The warp by usage and body heat alone after about a month. I have gone through 12 sets of shields from Feb 2022-to July 2022. (Elvie sent replacements saying they don't know why they warp, must be me using hot water to sterilize.) Which I am not, because they warp just in my bra. Why in the world would I put hot water on them knowing that!I like the portability and I feel like the hard plastic shields would have way less suction problems if they would just make a silicone gasket that surrounded the egg shape shield. I honestly think that for how expensive they are, plus the cost of constantly needing new flanges, shields, duckbills, and the little bottle spouts, which all together a swap out of parts can run you $62 each time, it is not worth the money until they work out more kinks. I think there are other options out there that are more affordable. On a side note, the app is horrendous. I am a tech person and work with tech all day. The bugs and issues with the bluetooth connecting, losing a pump, not showing entire pumping sessions, controls not linking are not worth the stress. I stopped using it altogether.

Not perfect but dang near

I’ve been using the Elvie for 2 months now, and I’m 3 months PP. even though this pump isn’t perfect, it’s 1000x better than the spectra pump I got with my insurance (I even upgraded to the battery powered one). I honestly don’t find much difference in the pump output between the two. I actually think I might get a little more output with the Elvie, even though the suction isn’t as strong. I think it’s just because it’s so much more comfortable and I can actually relax while pumping. I’m still getting the hang of pumping in general, as I mostly breastfeed, but I think I would’ve given up on pumping sooo long ago if I hadn’t purchased this. It’s very convenient. Heads up, don’t do microwave sterilization as the shields will warp and not work properly. Heads up, don’t do microwave sterilization as the shields will warp and not work properly. However the customer service is great and replaced mine with no issue. The cons: i can’t really do as much as I thought while pumping.. it’s hard to hold my baby with them and it’s hard bend down without losing suction, but I guess that’s to be expected with any pump. I do also tend to have suction issues sometimes just sitting, but I think that I need to get a smaller size shield. The 24mm it came with is still too big I think. The battery life isn’t the best either. I think for the price they should upgrade that… it will lose battery life when it’s sitting for a couple days unused. Lastly, I feel like the measurements can be deceiving. I might hit like right under the 2oz mark, for instance, but my dr browns bottles will say 1.5oz.Overall, the pros outweigh the cons for sure. And I would recommend to anyone!

Surprised due to mixed reviews
15 October 2022

I feel like I’ve read every review and watched every YouTube video and there were a lot of mixed emotions when it came to the Elvie. I ended up purchasing one due to always being on the go and sometimes it was just easier to throw these on and do work, cook, etc rather than my medela. I don’t agree that there are a lot of pump parts to clean and care for. I feel you have to clean Close to the same amount of parts with the medela. I didn’t have a hard time drying out and sterilizing my pump parts either, but I have a dedicated heater sterilizer for baby items called a wabi that I use. I didn’t experience my milk production slowing down. I averaged 25oz a day exclusively using my medela and I averaged the same with the Elvie. I didn’t experience my milk production slowing down. I averaged 25oz a day exclusively using my medela and I averaged the same with the Elvie. I only notice a difference in milk production if I’m unable to pump as many sessions or eat/drink as many calories. I don’t use the Elvie app because I use the huckleberry app and I don’t see the point in duplicating efforts. I think the only thing I could scrutinize is it turns off after 4oz is detected and times I can pull out 4-5oz, but I simply hit the play button until I reach the 15 or 20min session. I read something about someone experiencing discoloration? The only time I experienced discoloration on the pump body is when I wore a black bra and was lactating, put the Elvie between my bra and chest and I saw a little bit of black discoloration due to the fabric dye. It also dyed my breast as well. I just took rubbing alcohol and cleaned the pump. It takes me about 4uses before a charge and I usually have 15min sessions. I don’t see that being a big deal. It wasn’t hard for me to get out all the breastmilk out of the pump parts. You lose the same residual amount with the medela bottles. I think people writing those reviews don’t realize you can open the top of the pump part to widen the mouth. All in all I’m happy w the Elvie. I would recommend it.

Works so well until it doesn't.

Here's the review I wish I'd read before I bought an elvie pump. I'll start by saying that, had I written a review when I FIRST started using it, it would have been very different to this.As per the title, it works great until it doesn't. Sadly, it breaks down wayyyyy too often. There is literally no longevity. Disappointing, given the price. Here are the problems I (and many friends as well) have experienced:- general loss of suction for no apparent reason- breast shields warp resulting in loss of suction (elvie says this can happen with steam sterilising but I have only ever used cold water and Milton)- green seals become wet during use, resulting in loss of suction- pump makes a high pitched noise, and there is a loss of suction- pumps no longer ever ... MoreHere's the review I wish I'd read before I bought an elvie pump. I questioned whether it was me, and/or my body that was the problem, until I found a Facebook group with 55k members all looking for tips and support with their poorly performing elvie pumps.I love the idea of elvie but sadly the product has design flaws and is not durable enough to have any kind of longevity.
