Let me start out by saying I'm not sure why so many negative reviews. This is my first Les Paul , obviously not a Gibson but it's build quality is fantastic. I also own an epiphone sg G400 Pro , I wanted to see the difference between the two and was pleased with the quality of my sg. The Les Paul came almost perfect out of the box , all I had to do was lower the action and put new strings on , I tuned it up and it was all set. I got the smokehouse burst , beautiful color , better than the pics. The neck is perfect like my sg , it's comfortable and easy to play. The pots are solid , the pickups are better than expected and the versatility of this guitar is amazing. I specifically ordered this because I didn't need another guitar with coil splitting , and it wasn't listed in description. It's unfortunate the QC with Epiphones has been suspect lately. However, the one received was set-up fairly well...I was a bit surprised! The finish is really nice...the online pics don't do it justice. The action and intonation were set pretty well. I only tweaked it a bit for my taste. The pickups are warm and round. Their tonal characteristics are what you would expect from an Epi. The fret work was excellent on mine...no sharp edges or high frets. The neck is super easy to play, and the weight relief was spot on. I don't care for Epi's new "wider" headstock, but it's still OK. The Grover machines are stable and smooth. Overall, this is a great purchase in this class and at this price range.

I just got one of these in smokehouse burst for my birthday. It is really awesome. I have a Gibson too, and always kinda thought less of Epiphones but this new series they put out are really really nice. Mine has zero QC issues, no sharp fret ends, no buzzing, no sloppy finish. I can't find one thing wrong with it. In fact it has some nice features that my Gibson doesn't have, like Grover tuners and coil splitting. The new headstock shape looks great too. Originally I was gonna swap out the pickups but after sitting down with it, I am not gonna bother, they sound nice on their own. A very nice axe, especially for the price.
Though having several expensive guitars, my SG Junior beats them in terms of sustain! It is Made in Indonesia, beautiful see-trough finish showing the veins of the wood and stands the test of time - so far, 20+ years of hard service. Odd ever-changing tunings and sometimes even a missing D-string depending on the track to record. Despite this, the truss-rod remains firm. I'm an avid fan of P-90s and this one doesn't disappoint. It's been kicked around Rock-style but doesn't look like a relic.Now, I'd like to see the 1-pickuo Coronet double-cut reissued. Black pickguard on dark wine finish and a single black P90. If so, to be named the Stave Marriott!

Ok I'm not good guitarist so take that into into consideration but I have player series strat and have always played strat style guitars and I'm not saying i love this guitar more than the Fender I love them both but as far as the guitar is concerned she got so much potential tonally. I have no complaints about the ascetic she beautiful sexy gorgeous took a little getting used to the weight and contours compared to the strat there is adjustment period but she just rocks. I never played a Gibson but if this guitar had Gibson I guess it be a little better but also 2grand more. If I have any complaint is she is finger print magnet always wiping down get some dunlop 65 and microfiber cloth. The Glossy neck won't appeal to all ... MoreI bought one of these several months ago. Oh also, get the pro coverage cause I found out ALL Les Paul are extremely fragile at the neck,It has to do with the angle of the neck, Google it, do your research on owning a led Paul little different than strat anyway the guitar is 600-GREAT VALUE then with 2 years pro coverage plus tax it was under 900 or somewhere around there. And if you get a bad quality then ask for another cause it is coming from Asia so there is variability in workmanship but mine is PERFECT. If I ever get rich maybe ill buy a Gibson but for now this satisfy my Les Paul needs. I wanted an alternative to my strat to emulate Slash sound lol I need to work on my technique but this definitely rocks a Les Paul sound. I did see a review or 2 that liked the sound of the 1950 better but I played them both and liked the 60s better but check them both out the inspired by Gibson line is definitely worth the money if you want a Les Paul without breaking the bank. Just take your time do your homework if you can go to a GC and play it then do that In rarely write reviews especially this long but I love this guitar
I was looking at 4 different Les Pauls, wanted something different after playing Strats for a long, long time (relatively cheap ones). Was trying to get back into it after breaking my left hand thumb. I have short fingers which are kinda fat behind the tip, so I can get some buzz from rubbing. The slightly wider neck has mostly eliminated that. And I actually enjoy the slightly thicker neck. This Studio stays in tune extremely well, I rarely have to tune it up. Sound quality is great, I like being able to split the coils and get different sounds. I find it's a lot more comfortable for where I keep my pick hand, which tends to be above the middle pickup on a Strat, a little easier on the Les Paul.Neck is smooth, easy to move my hand up and down. It served me well for a lot of years but with all the trickle-down technology I figured it was the right time to pick out a new one. I chose the 60s standard for its neck, grover tuners, Bourbon Burst finish and graph tech nut. I never played pro bucker pickups before and I personally would like them to have more gain. Imo the top hat knobs look silly and will be replaced along with the pickups. None of this is the guitar's fault, It's not like you can order a custom shop Epiphone built to your exact specs so I got the closest thing possible and I'm pretty happy with it. The couple faults that I do have with the guitar are the very sharp fret ends and a blemish that looks like a ... The couple faults that I do have with the guitar are the very sharp fret ends and a blemish that looks like a small bubble coming out of the top of the guitar where the maple meets the binding. If I paid full price for this I'd probably send it back or try to get money off to get the frets fixed.. but I got a stupidly good deal on it. If adding humidity doesn't swell the fretboard and make the sharp frets disappear I'll probably attempt to file them down myself. I wasn't real surprised by the pickups not meeting my expectations, but the rest of the specs were right for me. Other than the one blemish I mentioned the flame maple veneer sprayed bourbon burst looks beautiful and is otherwise flawless.. however the deep red stained back, sides and neck look a little out of place on the bourbon burst. I think the red would compliment a brighter burst but I'm not exactly crazy about it on this darker finish. But that's more personal preference. I will say that trying to get a brand new guitar in the box from these guys is next to impossible. I call in every order and have them verify that they have a brand new one sealed in a factory box. I got a call later in the day from a GC about 2 hours away telling me they don't have a new one in the box but they did clean a open box (demo) they have really well and think I'll be very satisfied with it. I ordered a new guitar, specifically called and verified this was a new guitar sealed and a factory box in the warehouse and they try to pull this again. After canceling that order and having my gear advisor or whatever they're called go fishing for one that was sealed in the box. He finally located one that was in stock at a GC. This has happened several times in the past and seems like bait and switch if I ever saw it. I keep coming back for the discounts and the points.. but it's got so bad it's almost not worth dealing with anymore. Anyway, overall this is about what you'd expect from a modern day Epiphone Les Paul in this price range.
i bought the 60s standard because ive always wanted a les paul but of course a mia gibson is way outside my budget so i took a chance on the chinaphone les paul standard 60s in ebony ,nib, no open box floor model,( heard to many horror stories) . also a fender champion 20 practice amp. out of the box it looks and feels great, however, mine was not in tune , and had wilkinson tuners instead of the grovers as advertised, so ok, and it was way out of tune and poorly set up. so i made some adjustments on the bridge , pickups and the nut. tuned it up.now it practically plays itself. also some cosmetics i put gold plated pickup rings and a black selector switch cover , and removed the pick guard to replace the ivory trim and it made it look kind of bad boy style. so now ... Morei bought the 60s standard because ive always wanted a les paul but of course a mia gibson is way outside my budget so i took a chance on the chinaphone les paul standard 60s in ebony ,nib, no open box floor model,( heard to many horror stories) . also a fender champion 20 practice amp. out of the box it looks and feels great, however, mine was not in tune , and had wilkinson tuners instead of the grovers as advertised, so ok, and it was way out of tune and poorly set up. so i made some adjustments on the bridge , pickups and the nut. tuned it up.now it practically plays itself. also some cosmetics i put gold plated pickup rings and a black selector switch cover , and removed the pick guard to replace the ivory trim and it made it look kind of bad boy style. so now it looks great and plays great. it is far more capable than my talent level, thats for sure. i would definitely recommend one of these to anyone looking for a decent les paul without the huge price tag. just remember you may get one a couple years old and may have to set it up to your playing style. after that its all fun, hard to put down and cool to look at. so yeah im good. do youself a favor and get one.
Overall:I've placed several orders thru zZounds before with no trouble. I ordered a MIM strat about a year ago. The guitar showed up beautifully, perfect finish (buttercream), nice low action setup, the guitar was even in tune with near perfect intonation. I expected much the same on the epi les paul, but nothing could be further from the truth. The guitar showed with 2 obvious blemishes on the front and a gouge on the top next to the strap button. The guitar needed a setup badly. I was able to buff out most of the two blemishes but I have no idea how to fix the gouge. I got the guitar setup although I will lower it further when I next change strings. The knobs are nice and tight and do their jobs well. I bend aggressively and the grover tuners by and large hold tune very well. A great guitar way better than the price would suggest. Lesson learned next time I wand a very popular I should buy it in a retail store and not online.
