I've been playing guitar since 1985 and I can honestly say Epiphone has really upped their game in recent years. This guitar is almost too pretty to play. The ivory finish, gold hardware, and black sides give it a very classy look. The slim taper neck and excellent fretwork give it a comfortable feel. The Alnico humbuckers give it a full, warm sound. It inspires me to pick it up and play. If you happen across one of these rare gems, do yourself a favor and buy it before someone else does. She'll scratch your Les Paul itch.

This is my second 6 string electric, and I couldn't be HAPPIER with it! My first guitar is an entry level Epiphone SG Special that was a couple hundred bucks back in the day. It got the job done...good frets, good tune, good everything.I recently decided to step it up and get a "mid-range" guitar but still not break the bank with an Epiphone. The pick guard and finish are beautiful, the trim/binding around the guitar... this guitar has reignited my passion for playing! As of this writing, I have no complaints! Excellent guitar!

I bought my LP Custom BlackBack on sale at G.C. last week, so I realize that I may still be in the Honeymoon phase, but this is a really GREAT guitar. Upon arrival the finish was nearly flawless, and the guitar played great. All I needed to do was change the horrible factory strings, oil the Ebony fretboard, lower the action a hair and raise the neck pickup slightly. The neck has the perfect amount of relief, the nut is cut very well and the electronics work smoothly and quietly. Even the intonation was good. Although I'm not the biggest fan of these ProBucker pickups, they look so good with the Gold open-faced covers and Gold pole pieces that I'm leaving them in. Besides, these days I play with so many effects that they'll sound good regardless. Not as fat as what I'm used to in my old Gibson LP Traditional, but very comfortable without being too thin. What surprised me was that this particular LP Custom features Coil-Splitting on both pickups via Push/Pull volume knobs. I would think that they'd advertise this little bonus. I actually prefer the split tone on the neck pickup. I had owned the 2020 Silverburst Custom and it didn't have this feature. As far as I can tell this is the only one new LP Customs with coil splitting. The Grover tuners work very well also, as expected. And lastly, the looks. If the Les Paul Custom is the best looking guitar ever made (which it is), then this Blackback model raises that bar considerably. Everyone that I've shown this guitar to says the same thing, "Oh wow, that's beautiful", which it really is.I'm an older player and have owned hundreds of guitars over the years, some of them were high end. I would hold this LP Custom up to any of those guitars. And for the money, it's a no-brainer. Import guitars have come a long LONG way since I've started playing in the late 70's, and this is a perfect example of that. If this guitar were ever to be lost or stolen, I'd by another

Great Guitar
25 November 2021

It's common knowledge that the Les Paul Custom is the best looking guitar ever made. This model takes that up a notch.I've only had my Blackback Custom a few days, but I'm pretty impressed so far.In my 30 years of playing I've owned over 100 guitars, almost 30 of which have been Les Pauls, both Gibson and Epiphone. I can honestly say that this is the best- looking guitar I've ever owned. And it plays great too.I really didn't need to do much of a setup on it, simply lowered the bridge a hair, added some neck relief and raised the neck pickup. The tuners are holding well, the nut is cut well and the pickups sound pretty good, once I got the proper height dialed in. They sound good clean but even better with gain. (They really shine with some Black Sabbath riffs) ... MoreIt's common knowledge that the Les Paul Custom is the best looking guitar ever made. (They really shine with some Black Sabbath riffs) My frets are all level, with no sharp ends and the Ebony fretboard looks and plays fantastic. What the ad here doesn't mention is the Split- coil option on the neck & bridge volume knobs. I discovered that feature while doing a setup. The neck pickup, especially, sounds great split. This is a pretty heavy guitar though. Mine weighs in at a little over 9 lbs. But I prefer a heavy Les Paul. It feels more substantial. I'll probably just add locking tuners and strap locks to mine.Being as I don't play professionally anymore, I've since sold off most of my expensive gear, with the exception Gibson Les Paul Traditional, this Les Paul feels, and looks, much more expensive than it actually is, and it sits proudly next to my Gibson in the lineup. Since the Gibson LP Custom is 4-5 times the price of this Epiphone, it makes this guitar a steal. And this Blackback finish option makes it pretty unique. It appears that Epiphone really have stepped up their game, at least with this model. If it really is a "Limited Edition", I'm glad I got mine before they sold out. No buyers remorse here, it's just a great guitar.

Great Guitar - Guitar Center not so much

I purchased this guitar because a Les Paul was missing from my gear arsenal and I didn't want to drop three grand on a Gibson.I played a wall model at a local GC store and decided to buy, but requested a factory new model sent to me, because the wall model I played had some nicks in the fretboard, a sketchy 3 way switch and had worn strings and the intonation was way off above the 14th fret.I paid for next day air shipping to expedite the process because I tend to want the things I pay for fairly quickly. The shipping tag originated from the same city I live in, meaning they had a factory new either in the warehouse or at the neighboring store about 20 miles away. So I essentially paid 42$ for expedited shipping and could had likely gotten it same day if I asked ... MoreI purchased this guitar because a Les Paul was missing from my gear arsenal and I didn't want to drop three grand on a Gibson.I played a wall model at a local GC store and decided to buy, but requested a factory new model sent to me, because the wall model I played had some nicks in the fretboard, a sketchy 3 way switch and had worn strings and the intonation was way off above the 14th fret.I paid for next day air shipping to expedite the process because I tend to want the things I pay for fairly quickly. So I essentially paid 42$ for expedited shipping and could had likely gotten it same day if I asked the right questions I suppose. Shame on me.The next business day my guitar is delivered to my residence, I open it and immediately inspected it for possible shipping damage or factory flaws. It arrives with a broken 3 way switch, all strings tuned nearly 2 steps flat and also needed to make a truss rod adjustment to straighten the neck. Completely unacceptable that these issues left both the factory and GC's "quality control" in the condition it did. Luckily I work at a local small box music store and worked with our own luthier after hours to set it up and correct the problems. All that said, this guitar is absolutely fantastic. It plays and sounds very good and even though the stock pickups aren't top tier, they are excellent performers at a very reasonable price point. Monster value in this guitar. If you can acquire one some where other than Guitar Center, do it. If you do purchase from guitar center, make absolutely certain to have it looked at by a professional before accepting it.5 stars for the guitar and it's value.1 star for guitar centers lack of QC shipping items.

Overall:Just picked one up. I've been sold on Epiphone since they've essentially redesigned their headstock, and this one did not disappoint. I've been missing a guitar I can play my favorite metal songs and metal styles with and this one was nearly a no-brainer for me, within a certain budget of course. This is my 4th Epiphone and by far the best one, quality and feature wise. The pickup voicings are exactly what I was looking for, and I love the extra features of the electronics. I highly recommend performing a setup though, as it could use some fret polishing(and maybe some leveling, YMMV). No fret sprouts, nicely slim neck, but not too slim like an Ibanez or Jackson can be. Perfect for metal riffing and great for shredding, although a satin neck would make for ... MoreOverall:Just picked one up. I threw on some 11-54 gauge strings, tuned to drop C, and relieved the neck a bit. It plays nearly perfect.

My wife bought this for me while visiting my kids down in Huntsville Alabama. Great guitar, sound, action. Only difference is my guitar has coil tapping nice addition. I had it setup by a local tech when I got home since he had worked on several of my other guitars. Only problem I had was the screw for the strap on the neck side developed a wiggle so I did the doll fix and everything is good. I would suggest if you buy this guitar be diligent in checking the strap screws everything you play and keep a Phillips screwdriver handy. Enjoy this--it's one of my favorites. BTW it outdoes my Gibson Studio!

One Major Flaw...
22 October 2021

I owned a Gibson Les Paul Custom for years that I finally wore out. I wanted another but couldn't afford Gibson's prices. Banking on Epiphone's solid reputation, I went for their Les Paul Custom. After a few weeks of ownership, I was growing accustomed to and quite fond of this guitar until today when at rehearsal, I discovered one major flaw. The frets on this guitar are "glue-in", something many manufacturers have been doing for years to cut production costs. The frets themselves have no "tines" that normally fit into the slots in the fretboard. These are usually okay if done properly, but over time, the frets have a tendency to come unglued and that can be a major problem. The frets themselves have no "tines" that normally fit into the slots in the fretboard. These are usually okay if done properly, but over time, the frets have a tendency to come unglued and that can be a major problem. Today while playing, my high E string happened to "dive" off the fretboard after some pretty aggressive playing. I thought the E string had disappeared...until I discovered that it had become hung up under one of the frets mid-neck! I had to stop playing and pull the E string out of it's 'trap'. Several minutes later it happened again. Then after a few bends, the string broke...obviously weakened at that point by the catch under the fret. The real bad news is, it's going to take a good luthier to straighten out this problem, either by re-glueing or a total fret job using tined frets which will cost easily half the price of the guitar.Fortunately, I had just installed a Stew-Mac Roller bridge with adjustable string spacing that allowed me to move the high E further away from the fretboard edge....a 'band-aid fix' of sorts now, but I'm wondering what's to become of this problem a year or two from now. Other than that, this is a pretty nice instrument. Maybe I just got a bad one. I don't know, but I felt it important to share this knowledge and experience.

Very, very Nice
4 September 2022

This is my 4th purchase from the "Inspired by Gibson" line, and so far, the best. First, the pictures don't do it justice. It's beautiful. Lots of "Wows" every time I open the case. Secondly, it plays great. Factory setup was great on mine. No sharp or high frets. No dead spots on the neck. Intonation spot-on. If I had a complaint, it's that mine arrived with Wilkinson Tuners. Epiphone says they do this occasionally if they can't source Grovers in time. But they're doing their job great. I like the Probucker pickups too. Perfect for my playing. Hard rock and warm cleans, It only took a few minutes to get them dialed in.I normally prefer a chunkier neck, like on my Epiphone '59 Les Paul. But this neck plays and feels great in my hands.I've been a Gibson & Epiphone ... MoreThis is my 4th purchase from the "Inspired by Gibson" line, and so far, the best. First, the pictures don't do it justice. It's beautiful. Lots of "Wows" every time I open the case. Secondly, it plays great. Factory setup was great on mine. No sharp or high frets. Well made, nice looking guitar. Pickups not for everyone.

The guitar looks great in person. It was setup very well right out of the box, so it's basically ready to pick up and play. The Epiphone Probucker pickups are nice sounding, but they have "vintage" output, which is a lot lower than anything else I use and might not be for everyone. You'll definitely have to tweak your amp or overdrive settings to adjust if your other guitars have high output pickups, and while these sound nice I'm planning on replacing the bridge pickup with something hotter because that's what I'm comfortable with.Les Pauls kind of have a reputation for having really chunky necks, and that's not the case with this one. It's not obvious when you look at the guitar, but after playing it for a minute your fingers will be covered in some kind of black film. I had the same experience with a 2020 Explorer that came from a different retailer so I think this is an Epiphone issue and not a Guitar Center problem. Anyways, you'll have to spend some time wiping the strings down to deal with it.
