I have always shied away from comfort models of saddles because that typically translates to thick, heavy padding and a wide, blunt shape that might feel cushy when you first climb on but which gets very unpleasant if you ride for more than 30 minutes at a time. The Ergon SMC is definitely NOT one of those chunky cruiser comfort seats. Place this side by side with a standard saddle, and you'll be hard pressed to spot the differences. Go for a ride on it, though, and you'll notice immediately. I started cycling in the late 80s, raced during the 90s, and have continued to ride just for fun ever since. Enough relief in the center to cut down on nerve tingles. I bought this originally to use on my road/commuter bike but have since bought a second one for my mountain bike. Will this saddle make your bike as comfortable as a couch? Of course not. Will it make you climb like you weigh 120 pounds and descend like you have no awareness of your own mortality? Definitely not. Will it make long rides more enjoyable? Definitely.

Love this saddle, flat for your sit bones but very soft in the right places. This is my 2nd saddle now, I origianlly had the mk1 version of this saddle which lasted me years also. I generally ridr 25-35kms of trails and find it as comfortable as a saddle can be for a weekend rider.

Absolutely loving this new saddle. This was an upgrade from a stock saddle on a Canyon brand MTB. This baby is dreamy compared to the stock seat. It took about 2 seconds before I was cursing myself for not doing this much sooner. Do not ride in pain! If you have a proper set of riding shorts, and you are still experiencing a sore butt, do not hesitate, buy a dream saddle and enjoy the ride. Ergon is an excellent brand, and they completely engineer the finest of details in everything they do. I also went with some Ergon handlebar grips as well, but I bought those over in Germany at a local bike store.I was somewhere in the middle between the two sizes, S/M or M/L. I am 6'1", 160 lbs with a small butt, so kind of built like a normal roady, but the M/L was a great joy within seconds. I bought this after my son complained about riding the old seat, and he too came to the same conclusion, great joy and relief. Buy this seat and don't look back in anger, knowing that you should have done so sooner!

Great saddle. My first Ergon product but it’s a quality item. After researching them, I went for the M/L size. It felt strange at first compared to the saddle I was riding before, being a bit wider, but I have got used to it quickly and it’s comfortable. The different width and strange initial feeling might easily be confused with it being uncomfy butI would say persevere with it, if the ergon website advises that you should go with the M/L
Saddle's are a highly subjective fit and preference - What works great for one person in terms of comfort and performance is another person's misery.....err, torture device if you're really putting in the miles. And, when you find "the one saddle," you'll never go back to other options and buy several more just in case.....that's my experience with this saddle.I purchased this saddle a few months ago to replace the stock WTB Sport Saddle on my fat bike and it's been a night versus day difference ever since in terms of comfort and performance. For years I've read good things about Ergon but never really thought it would make as much of a difference comfort wise, at least not leaps better than most other saddles I've tried on my road and mountain bikes that seemed ... MoreSaddle's are a highly subjective fit and preference - What works great for one person in terms of comfort and performance is another person's misery.....err, torture device if you're really putting in the miles. For years I've read good things about Ergon but never really thought it would make as much of a difference comfort wise, at least not leaps better than most other saddles I've tried on my road and mountain bikes that seemed similar enough in terms of materials, size, shape, etc. (e.g., Selle Italia, WTB) - I was wrong. In my case, this saddle, even full price, is worth every penny: it's made both short (e.g., 1 to 2 hours) and long rides (e.g., 4+ hours) in the saddle on paved, dirt, and snow covered trails so much more enjoyable and pain free, more so than any saddle I've ever owned or tried and I've tried many over the years. It's not the lightest, it's not aero, it's not narrow or flashy if that's your thing, but it is very, very comfortable and I've been pain/numbness free for the first time in years since using this saddle, even when riding severals days per week for several hours each trip. For reference, for the majority of my rides, I wear a standard Zoic chamois, and, occasionally, for longer rides, the Zoic premium chamois which has slightly better padding for extra comfort on day-long and multi-day rides/bikepacking. If this saddle works for your sit bone size/shape, you won't regret it.Durability wise, I've logged over 300 miles so far on this saddle with no signs of any wear or issues so far.
Saddle was OK, I actually returned it for a Selle. Honestly the comfort was not much better than the stock saddle that came with my MTB. If you are looking for a lighter weight and a little bit more comfortable, this would work. Personally I would rather a heavier weight and more comfortable 🙂
I never write reviews, but this saddle is a game changer for me. I'm a 65-year-old male and over the past 4 years have biked regularly for 3 hours 3 to 4 times/week. The only problem was sit-bone pain which I assumed for too long was just a matter of building up tolerance. But after 3 years the sit-bone pain worsened to the point it was forcing shorter rides and longer recovery between rides. And the pain really never went away completely. Finally bought this saddle about 3 weeks ago, installed it, and the pain truthfully disappeared within a couple of rides. I can ride 4 to 5 times a week now for 3 hours at a time with no sit-bone pain and no recovery time (at least not for the sit-bone pain). I could probably go longer now. I just wish I'd bought this years ago. I ... MoreI never write reviews, but this saddle is a game changer for me. I just wish I'd bought this years ago. I am right at the 12 cm measurement between bones so went with the larger M/L size as recommended. Thought it would look bigger than my stock saddle, but there's not that much of a difference in look or weight.
The OEM seat on my new mountain bike was very hard and uncomfortable. I replaced it with the Ergon SMC Sport Gel and absolutely love it. I just finished a 49 mile race without any discomfort at all whatsoever.
I bought this saddle based on these very reviews. I needed something for a 71 mile ride the next day. My second Brooks Cambium C15 proved to be as uncomfortable as the C17 at about 17 miles into a ride. So crazy as it sounds I bought this saddle with no ride experience what so ever planning and hoping for comfort on a 71 miler. The next day I set out for my ride. 15 miles in I started to get worried, was it me or my saddle that made the Brooks so uncomfortable. Well after 71 miles and almost 6hrs 15mins. With one break at my turn around this has been the best saddle I’ve ever owned. I got some normal discomfort the was easily fixed by just a short lift off and then right back on. No pain, just miles of enjoyable riding. Pros:- Very comfortable- Quality build and materialsCons:- Heavier steel metal (100+ grams more than my WTB Volt saddle)- There is no protection to the rear edge of the saddle. It would benefit the durability of the saddle if you flip the bike upside down to work on it for whatever reason.Summary: It also comes with built-in design to integrate the Topeak Sidekick Wedge Pack with F25 Fixer bag where you can clip it underneath the saddle. I have used it through half a dozen rides (2+ hours per ride) and really feel comfortable riding on the saddle. It's slightly heavier than I preferred but it is not a deal breaker for the benefit of comfort.
