I overcame the mess by turning the Portafiler upside down over the grinds vessel, then flipping both right side up tapping both on my tamping mat. Rotate the grinds vessel a couple turns and lift straight up. No mess?We are very happy with the upgrade to the Oro Single Dose. Better grinder, better espresso!

Spectacular grinder in every way! I've been making coffee for 30 years and this grinder has all the improvements in every category you'd want from a single dose. The burrs were perfectly parallel when I ink tested them... the retention is zero with the bellows even on lighter roasts... the machine has huge torque and the adjustment knob has zero adjustment lash which was surprising. The burrs produce true to flavor espresso or v60... if you want to taste the roaster's tasting notes and actually recognize the difference between plum and apple? This is the grinder for you waaaaayyy over the Niche zero. I use it for espresso mostly and V60 and for espresso even with lighter roasts I'm still around a 4 which leaves a tremendous amount of room to grind finer.

It’s fine, Bc I use the clear lid which makes it easier to see the beans so u know when to close the metal tab and not bend over. but it’s a bit frustrating that it would be such a small fraction off that it is unusable unless u attach the bellows. Which leads me to the next point. The bellows serve no purpose. I do not notice any less retention with the bellows than without it. Maybe the first few times after a full cleaning it may help but after that there was no discernible difference I could notice. And since I don’t like the look of it and how it can frustrate work flow, I simply do not use it. The metal tab works fine but wish it had a little rubber piece over it to make it easier to grip since the sides can be a bit sharp. Not a big deal though. And lastly, it looks like it has the cutout for where a portafilter fork could be inserted but it does not come with one. I don’t mind using the metal cup but would prefer to grind directly into the portafilter to cut out the additional step.All in all, it is an excellent machine with an heirloom quality build. It is genuinely a pleasure to use and the results in the cup have been top notch. I wish they would figure out some of the smaller quirks, but I still believe it is the best single dose grinder for the price. I have used my friend’s Niche before, and I can say without hesitation that I much prefer the Eureka. Add in the fact that it’s metal instead of plastic, has flat burrs rather than conical, and is made in Italy over China, and to me it’s a no brainer. Very pleased with my purchase, even considering the small quirks mentioned. If you’re on the fence like I was, don’t hesitate to pull the trigger.

That helped, but here was a bigger problem: because I only make a few espresso drinks a day, I wasn’t using up the beans in the hoppers very quickly. The hoppers aren’t airtight, so the beans aged fairly rapidly, and I was chasing the grind size adjustment every few days.I tried putting only small quantities of beans in the hoppers, and that improved the situation. (Yes, actually got out more than I put in, which meant there had been previous retention that use of the bellows didn’t remove).I found that if I just ran some beans through, did not use the bellows, then did it the same same way from then on, retention was as advertised (0.1 - 0.2g). I suspect this means some grinds naturally stick in certain locations, and use of the bellows doesn’t always blast them free.My procedure:1. Close the metal gate at the bottom of the hopper2. Load beans3. Power on grinder4. Open gate5. As soon as the last bean falls below the gate, close it to prevent “popcorning”.6. Let the grinder run until it’s completely clearThis has provided consistent, low retention.Complaints: Not a fan of a plastic hopper, but many grinders in this price range have them. The motor itself is fairly loud, with a hum and significant vibration, though actual grinding noise is about the same as my rather quiet Rocket Faustinos.Conclusion: I’m really happy with it. Takes up less space than two conventional grinders on the counter, and much more practical and less wasteful.

I have been using my 17 year old PID Rancillio Silvia and a Rancillio Rocky grinder combo. While the Rocky grinder fit the bill for many years and I have been pleased in general, I could not get the consistent shots I was after, no matter WHAT technique I tried; and I tried them all with great patience.I just got my Eureka Oro grinder and it turns out, I was doing nothing truly "wrong" with my old Rocky, it was the Rocky itself. After my Baratza Sette 270 finally broke, I wanted to upgrade to a different low retention grinder and decided on this. The first thing that struck me was the quality of the materials. The grinder is very heavy, and the cover is of high quality plastic that's super easy to clean. The first time I turned the grinder on (without beans), I thought that it was broken because I could only hear a faint humming noise coming from the motor. After chucking in a few beans, the 65mm burrs churned through them effortlessly. The grind sizes are consistent too, so it's easy to switch between grind sizes. It's gratifying to see some power come out while pumping and grinding the final residues inside the grinder. I have not measure it but I guess it is less than a gram anyway.It has the cover/lid and the coaster underneath the doser with bamboo tone. If you care about cosmetics as well as functionality, get this chrome one and you will be glad you did since this is some appliance that may last your lifetime!All in all, this is a fantastic grinder and just bear in mind, the pictures might not show (but the video does) the bellow but it comes with it same as wherever else sells it. Whole latte love customer service is superb as they answered my questions timely.

Now that's good customer service! She suggested the Eureka Oro Mignon based upon the issues I had with the ECM, and it was a great suggestion at that.I've had the EOM for a few weeks now and I'm thrilled with just about every feature. Retention is low, in the 0.1g range at the most depending on static, and whether or not I use the bellows. It's far less wasteful since it grinds only what you put in the small hopper i.e. you get out what you put in. The bean release mechanism is simple yet elegant. It does a great job of grinding being very consistent and uniform. It looks amazing, it's beautifully made, it's reasonably quiet, it's suitably heavy and solid, but there are three aspects that could be better, hence only four starts.First off, the sticker on the grinder setting adjustment knob is cheap and was already coming off when it showed up. The on/off button is cheap and I don't see it lasting for years. And finally, the very nice wooden top doesn't fit the hopper well at all. Given the price for this grinder those three features shouldn't be an issue with this model.Overall though I'm very pleased with the EOM and would buy it again.
