A technical shoe designed for excellent all-round performance indoors and out, and a great option for those looking to progress from a beginners shoe. Standout features include Evolv's VTR (variable thickness rand) which is thicker at the base for improved durability and thinner at the top for comfort and sensitivity, and an innovative closure system which gives more adjustment than conventional double velcro straps, but is still super quick and easy to open and close. Features include: Synthetic upper. Innovative closure system with adjustable buckle and velcro tabs. Twin pull-on loops. Flatter lasted for all-day comfort. VTR for balanced durability and sensitivity. 1.2mm full-length lasting board. 4.2mm super sticky Trax SAS rubber outsole. Vegan friendly.

Very well put together. Excellent attention to detail in the finishing. Glad I heeded advise to get normal shoe size for a "performance" fit. I wear 10 in street shoes and a 10 in these are nicely snug. I didn't know rubber could be so sticky. Closure system exceeded expectations. Well worth the $. I recently paid $219 for a pair from a different maker and was very disappointed. Probably won't be going back to that brand. Very impressed by Evolv. I will likely lean towards them for future shoe purchases.

Awesome for Intermediate Gym Bouldering

I have been gym bouldering for a few years now with some on/off breaks and have been a V6 climber at my best. I don't mess around with ordering climbing shoes online because they all fit and size differently so I went to try them on instore. I wear a 12 in Vans and the 12.5 Kronos fit perfectly. 12's would have been good too but I wasn't looking for a super aggressive, toe curling pair and since they are synthetic, I'm not expecting them to stretch all that much.I tried on several other shoes in different sizes and these felt the best by far. I feel like they are already pretty well broken in after just 4 sessions. Easy to put on and take off, toe and heel hooks feel good and they smear surprisingly well. Note these are my first climbing shoes, but I've gotten great use out of them, climbing about 5 days/week at the gym before COVID shut things down. I've worn these mostly inside for gym climbing (both bouldering and sport climbing) for a year now, but they've treated me well in my couple of outdoor trips too. The rubber is great and sticky and despite the moderate last and relatively rounded toe, I always felt like I could trust my feet in these. They fit true to size (I wear 9 in street shoe and in these Evolvs) and are usually comfortable to leave on between climbs and belaying sessions, although I often take them off if my feet are getting too hot and sweaty. The Kronos shoes look great, with muted colors and cool details on the pull tabs and straps.Cons ... MoreNote these are my first climbing shoes, but I've gotten great use out of them, climbing about 5 days/week at the gym before COVID shut things down. Also note, even with regular lysol spraying after sessions, if you're using these 5 days a week like I did, the synthetic materials can get REALLY stinky. The rounder toe is great for smearing and edging most footchips, but can be a bit hard to get into narrow pockets or the smallest of chips.Despite that, I highly recommend these shoes for all-around climbing if you're a beginner/moderate climber or just not ready for that more aggressive last.

Good comfortable shoe!!

I am now on my 3rd pair of these shoes, very comfortable shoe when broken in. These shoes can lack slightly in higher graded slabby gym problems. There’s enough toe point to do a lot but will still sometimes leave you slipping off the wall. Good for smearing!! These shoes have gotten me through gym underhang v7-v8s just fine for being a flat shoe. Good for outdoor bouldering and single pitch rope climbing!!

These are my first pair after rental shoes and they’re perfect. I think a good comparison is that I snowboard with an all-mountain board because I like to ride everything, and these feel like all-climb shoes. I’m confident they can handle anything I try instead of just niche skills. Hysterically better than the rentals, I felt the upgrade immediately. Just enough toe point to stand almost any hold without feeling like you’ll slip. Can still smear. I only boulder with them so not sure how they do outside. THEY WONT STRETCH. Also I wear a 10.5 Nike blazer and a 12 in these for the proper fit. The right side shoe has a deformity in it that results in a semipermanent blister on my inside heel. Not sure if that’s the pair I bought or a model defect. The only shoes I can ... MoreThese are my first pair after rental shoes and they’re perfect. I really like the evolv Kronos and would recommend them to anyone in the V0-4 stages of bouldering. They straddle the line between stiffness and softness, meaning the shoe holds good tension when you're on small slabby footholds, but they also feel confident on angled volumes and when smearing.Additionally, they break in quickly, and are a perfect fit lengthwise at your regular street shoe size (example: I wear an 11 in all running sneakers, the 11 in the Kronos fits perfectly). However, they come with a few downsides that beginner shoes often do— firstly the way your foot sits in the shoe doesn't bring a lot of confidence for heel hooks; they often feel like they're about to pop off your foot in a high tension heel hook. Additionally, the top strap never felt like it adjusted for perfect closure. Because these sit in a middle ground in terms of desired performance (medium stiffness, non-aggressive shape), they will eventually feel limiting as you continue to increase your skill level. Finally, if you plan to wear these without socks, just know that they will REEK after a few months if you don't take proper care of them.Ultimately, I wouldn't have picked a different shoe to begin my climbing progression.

Great beginner-intermediate shoe!

So I’ve only used these for two climbing sessions so it may be a bit early to write a review but doing it anyway! So far they have been great. I feel they lock to your heel and toes very well and and a well rounded shoe for different climbing styles. I’m a beginner and they are great for heel hooks and toe hooks. I find they feel a bit more of a toe dominant shoe. They Velcro is very secure and rubber seems very durable. I’ve slipped a lot as I’m a newb and there isn’t any sign of wear on the shoes yet. I’d say the negatives of the shoe are that they hurt around the heel quite a bit when standing. When climbing, and your heel is extended, they seem to fit very well but I do find myself having to take the shoes off every time I rest but that’s probably due to them ... MoreSo I’ve only used these for two climbing sessions so it may be a bit early to write a review but doing it anyway! Great, Comfortable All-Around Shoe
18 November 2020

Picked up a pair on sale at my local REI to replace my worn out Tarantulaces. For a flat shoe, they are great - super comfortable, relatively grippy, easy to get on/off. Synthetic is a bonus for a consistent fit, although I heard they can become pretty stinky, so maybe stay on top of that. For fit, I went with one full size up from my street shoe size (9 in street shoes, picked a 10 here). I could have pulled off a half size up, but since they're synthetic (no stretch) and supposed to be my more comfortable flat shoes, I went with the 10. I can keep them on pretty much all the time, I don't have to peel them off after every climb. For bouldering, they are great up to V4ish. Beyond that, I would go for a more aggressive shoe (typical for a flat shoe anyway). If you're a beginner climber, these will handle virtually anything you can throw at it, AND keep your feet happy too.A pair of these and a pair of Shamans would round off a perfect quiver to climb just about anything.

Runs half size small, no idea about other reviews

Runs small, will exchange than evaluate performance but let me give you some real concrete numbers to prove it. No idea how everyone else is saying it's true to size. From the very tip of my toe to the very pointy end of the back of my feet measures EXACTLY 10.75 inches (or 10 & 3/4 inches). Take a look at size charts and maybe slightly unintuitively, a 10.75 inch foot maps exactly to a 10.5 standard US men shoe size. My feet is the definition of a 10.5 US men shoe that is true to size. I know this, I collect shoes - all kinds of them, sports, sneakers, boots, etc and have idea what size adjustments I need for every kind, or even certain brands. But by definition, a shoe that fits me perfectly length wise is a shoe that's exactly true to size of a 10.5.This shoe, sized 10.5, measures a tad over 10.5 inches in its longest span in the EXTERIOR. There's obviously padding on the toe and at the back, the inside measurements is less than 10 and 9/16 inches which happens to be the definition of a US standard size 10. That's OVER half size down. Now if we want a snug fit with a *little* bit curving of toe or expectation of some break-in, I'd say it's about exactly half size smaller.I'm expecting the 11 to fit me perfectly and eager to do my exchange to try it out in the gym. Trust the numbers, I'm starting to suspect most people have no idea what their feet measurements are and the conversion to actual standard US shoe sizing. This shoe objectively runs small by about half size. Maybe ideally you are in between sizes and go for the bigger one for a very tight fit that can break-in to perfectly right. If you are an exact size like me, you need to go half size up otherwise it's not do-able. I'm expecting close to a perfect fit with 11 to start and hope the shoe won't stretch too much over time.

Solid moderate shoe, runs VERY small

This is a very solid shoe for indoor gym climbing. Have not had them outside yet. Velcro straps make it easy to take on/off but still allow me to get the shoes reasonably snug all across the shoe. There is a little bit of space in the heel, more than I'd like, but it's not a huge problem. Can't say anything as to the durability of the soles as I have only used them a couple times already. These are slightly more aggressive and positive than my old tarantulaces they replaced, but not significantly more uncomfortable. So I wanted to go a little tighter with this pair. My tarantulaces were the same size as my tennis shoes, which also fit me properly. Since I read that these run small, I figured I would start with the same size as my old climbing shoes. When they arrived, I COULD NOT get them on at ALL. My toes folded under my feet as I tried on the shoe. I had to go up 1 full size larger than my TENNIS SHOE size in order to get rock climbing shoes I could even so much as put on. I have been climbing for years and I know how climbing shoes should fit, and these run way smaller than expected. Ended up having to return the shoes to the store and they ordered the size I needed, which went smoothly but of course I couldn't go climbing for another week while I waited on the new size to arrive.
