Great product from Exo Terra. Easy to cut down to fit the vivarium and gives my beardie a much better surface than just using newspaper or reptile carpet, and without the worry of him eating loose substrate. Not sure how easy it is to clean yet but the "sand" (more the safe reptile clay than sand) is backed by a hygienic foam mat so I'm hoping it should be reasonably easy but I think it'll be easy enough to replace a small piece from the scraps when cutting to fit. He definitely seems to prefer it and since he's shedding, it's helping him remove that too.The delivery was super quick - and I mean fast - I literally ordered it Sunday evening and it had arrived by Tuesday morning. I got this for my new baby bearded dragon and I love it. I wanted to mimic their desert environment without using loose sand as it can cause issues with ingestion. This reptile carpet does just the trick!

I like that the mat looks similar to a desert habitat. I knew loose bedding was not good for my dragon, but I also wanted something that looked more natural than newspaper or paper towels. I pull the mat out of the tank once a week and rinse it in the bath tub. All the solid waste comes off easily. Lots of 'clay' like pieces come off when I rinse it, though that lessens after a few weeks. (BTW, the tub is a mess, but it is easy to clean). ***I do not have young kids at home using the tub, so that might be a consideration for some people.

I bought this for my leopard gecko. She’s been on it for about 3 weeks now and its great. Just put a paper towel where they use the bathroom. My only concern is the small rocks on it do come off with very little ease and I hope my gecko won’t eat it.
This looks fantastic and if you can afford to keep buying a new one when it’s time to clean the tank, this is perfect! However, the gravel will fall off when you hose it off and it harbors bacteria, w all those little crevices there’s no way to truly clean it which can cause all kinds of health problems for you and your reptile
Looks great in my beardie viv but when I tried to spot clean it with spray (not very wet) it basically just took all the sand off it. I'm dreading trying to wash and scrub it like the you tube video so for now I just dry spot clean with kitchen roll. It now looks bald and patchy therefore I'm quite disappointed as it looked so good!
I love this sand mat. It goes perfectly with my decor, I rolled it out and it fit perfectly in my 20 gallon I did not have to cut it to fit and my lil guys nails will stay nice and trimmed. My guy when eating will not get impacted now and will stay nice and healthy
I bought this mat for when I first got my bearded dragons. This is not a good mat for them. The pebbles fall off easily. It is hard to clean. I used a sprayer and soap but the liquid from their stool was still in the mat. and sinced i used the sprayer more pebbles would fall off.
Overall high quality product and works perfectly as an attractive low impact/low maintenance substrate. HOWEVER, I would add the following important caveats;1) I would recommend thoroughly beating and washing the mats to both remove excess loose material and to remove the strong odour of the manufacturing process (quickly diminishes), before placing in with any animal.2) If you have young/small lizards or those with gut complications I would recommend, as I do, in using a feeding dish to minimise ingestion of excess particles.Despite these common sense suggestions, this is another excellent product from Exoterra that does the job and looks fantastic.
It’s pretty to look at that’s about it . It has sharp points my leopard gecko would not even lay on it !
