I enjoyed using the Exped Dura 3R (LW) over two recent camping trips. The first trip was two nights car camping in northern California. I had not opened the Exped prior to the trip, so my first experience was onsite. First off, the directions aren’t terribly helpful as they point you to a QR code to watch a 30 second video. I didn’t have service so that didn’t help me at all. The printed instructions don’t provide much help, but they do state to always use the pumpbag as it will maximize the R-Value and lifespan. My first pass at using the pumpbag was very clumsy, but improved quickly. It does help if for the first time you blow a bit of air in the pad to create some space. My first pass at using the pumpbag was very clumsy, but improved quickly. It does help if for the first time you blow a bit of air in the pad to create some space. After a minute or so of fumbling the pumpbag worked well and it only took two or three full bags to completely fill the pad.The pad is very durable. The connectors to the pumpbag and the deflate valve are strong and flexible. I didn’t feel the need to be overly cautious with them. The material is thicker than most pads I’ve used in the past, and the seams appear strong.Fully inflated, the pad is comfortable for both back and side sleeping. I tend to fall asleep on my back and then roll to the side. I never felt my shoulder, elbow, hip, or knees push through the pad to the ground. That is a huge plus for me as most pads I’ve used don’t provide as much support. Additionally, when you move you don’t feel the air being pushed to other portions of the pad. It stays stable throughout. Another plus is that I didn’t slide around. The texture of the pad holds you in place, and this is a serious bonus as it is always difficult to find a flat surface for sleeping. It’s also worth noting that the pad is quiet. My fellow camper who camps with me often commented that he couldn’t hear me moving in the night as he does on the other super lightweight pads that I usually use.Temperature-wise, the overnight lows were around the high 30s, and I stayed comfortable the entire night. This is rated as a three-season pad, and this seems appropriate to me, although for those that get chilly overnight you may want the 4R pad and/or a warmer bag.The second trip with the pad was a quick, one night backcountry jaunt. As advised in one of the videos (I watched them after the first trip), the pumpbag can be used as a dry sack. I decided to use it to hold my sleeping bag. That worked well, although the plastic clasps on the bag can be a little unwieldy in a tightly packed backpack. I also figured, I really don’t want this pumpbag along for the hike just for airing up the pad, so I decided to put it to use. It worked out fine, but I really don’t want to use a pumpbag in the backcountry. Even though the instructions state to always use the pumpbag, in the future for backcountry trips it will probably be left behind.I had the same positive experience using it in the backcountry as I did while car camping, although the pad is larger and heavier than what I usually use. It does seem like the durability would offset the lighter load, and that would be for the individual to decide.Overall, I highly recommend this pad for car camping and shorter backcountry hikes, especially where the sleeping surface may be rocky, it might be cold, or you just want the extra comfort that this pad provides.

I really like this sleeping pad. I like that the ribs go long ways, and the outside ribs are bigger, which creates a cradle like a effect and keeps you from sliding off. Also, like that it is very quiet and relatively soft to the touch. Being more durable of course means it weighs more. It is noticeably heavier than the Ultra 3R but I will take the weight penalty for the durability and comfort. I forsee getting many years of use out of it.

The separate bag to fill the pad is not my favorite; having to disconnect the pouch 2-3 times to fill the pad all the way. The pad is fairly comfortable as a side sleeper and did not get too cold; with a few Colorado/Wyoming nights reaching the mid/high 30's. The fit was perfect in my Kelty Late Start 1P tent. The packed dimensions fall directly in between my Klymit Static V2 and my Thermorest Trail Lite. Overall, I would recommend this sleeping pad.

Great Sleeping Mat
8 April 2022

Took the DURA 3R for an overnight camping trip when the spring weather was nice. Very comfortable to sleep on. Easy to inflate especially with the inflate bag…my son did it for me. Quality material and build. With the added bonus of being a carbon neutral product. Enjoying the outdoors while protecting it at the same time. The mat comes with a puncture repair kit. Deflates fast and packs easily in its bag. Highly recommend.

Great first impression!
13 October 2022

Initial impressions: After my 8-year-old Big Agnes air pad got a slow leak, I was hesitant to buy a new brand (Big Agnes reviews are now not very good... sad). I inflated it with my mouth and it was easy and super quick. I likely won't use the bad because I'm a minimalist, but it looks easy. Very quiet. Very comfortable for side sleeping. Feels very durable. Compacts fairly small. Rolls up easily. I'm hoping the 3R is warm enough, we will see. So far it reminds me of my Big Agnes, so I hope it lasts as long! I did a LOT of research and I'm glad I paid full price for a good pad.

Great mat. A "buy"
4 July 2022

Just returned from a canoe and camping trip... used for 6 nights. This is the 3rd inflatable sleeping pad I've owned, and its the most comfortable. Slept well on my back and side. Inflates very easily... the trick i found was holding the "inflator sack" open at arms length and blowing into it to fully fill it with air before closing it. This method allowed be to fully inflate the mat in two fills. Deflates, rolls, and stores with ease. Before my trip, my 2 year old tested the durability... by jumping and napping on it for a couple weeks with no loss of air.

It has two vales! So easy.

I've had three similar pad in recent years all with their own strengths and weaknesses. This pad has very few if any weaknesses. First the two valves is awesome! One for air "in" and one for air "out". Both the other pads had various one-way valves with finicky closures and tricky multi-cap filling systems or self-inflating that didn't self-inflate. The Exped has a filling bag that takes about 3 bags to fill the pad. I had to be careful with the direction the bag was placed on the opening but each time it filled easily. I'm a side sleeper and didn't have any hip issues during any of the uses. Open the "out" valve and roll it up. It's the smallest of the three pads I've used and it's light enough for backpacking or easy to stowe "overlanding"/car camping. Lightweight and durable but loud and uncomfortable
13 March 2023

I picked up two of these pads after reading the glowing reviews here on REI.com. My son and I are preparing to go to Philmont and I decided to bite the bullet and get some high quality, lightweight gear. The good:- lightweight and rolls up easily and packs small- durable materialThe bad:- that durable material is LOUD when you shift positions over night! People I’ve camped with heard the pad creakiing all night.- Unforgiving pressure points and the pad does not fill up all the way.If you have lower back issues like me I would NOT RECOMMEND this pad. Even my son who is 120lbs was having issues with pressure points.

Nice Pad

Dura is the right name for this sleeping pad: it's durable. I inflated it at home almost a month ago and it has not lost any air that I can tell. In that time it has been napped on by me inside and in the yard, jumped on and played on extensively by my elementary age child, and napped on by my 20 lb dog. I found this pad comfortable to sleep on, and noticeably not drafty. It feels soft, and is much cushier than my closed cell foam pad. I even found side sleeping comfortable on it. I have not yet taken it camping, but will absolutely be doing so my next overnight. This is now part of my go-bag for emergencies as well. Super comfortable, packs smallish

Just used this pad over a weekend in South Louisiana for the first time. Temps were in the low 50s, and I stayed perfectly warm in a 55 degree bag.First night I inflated the pad using the Exped Widget, which seemed to max out inflation significantly lower than the provided fill bag with the Schnozzle.I'm 5' 11" , 200 lbs., and a side sleeper. I found my hips compressing the pad to the point where my hips slightly touched the ground the first night. Second night I used the inflating bag to add more air to the pad, and that made night 2 much better. Plenty of support once I filled it more. Not sure how this would handle really cold temps, but for milder climates it seems great. It packs down small enough to take on paddle trips for sure. The Exped Dura 3R is a reliable, comfortable warm sleeping pad with synthetic insulation. The mat is made of very strong recycled 75D/170D polyester. In addition, the entire CO² emissions of production, including transport, are compensated by the collaboration with MyClimate. The mat consists of vertical tubes. The two outer tubes are slightly higher to keep you centered on the mat. They also reduce the risk of rolling off your mat. Exped uses two flat valves, preventing damage to the fabric of the inner tent. One valve is for inflating and the other for deflating the mat. The inflation valve is equipped with a handy one-way flapper. This way the air cannot escape during inflation. The mat comes with an Exped Schnozzel Pumpbag. With this lightweight pump bag you can inflate the mat at lightning speed. You also prevent moisture from entering the mat. The pump bag can also be used as a waterproof storage case.
