This is the one you've been looking for-- soft and bendable yet deep and dark.

This pencil came highly recommended by my art professor, so I bought about eight of them. As soon as I began to sharpen the lead, it broke and crumbled. So I retried again, and it broke even more. Thankfully, I purchased another brand of pencils that my instructor recommended as his 2nd choice. Looks like those will be my first choice.

Love using this in pastel drawings. Makes nice, detailed lines.#sweepstakes
Excellent pencils! Very useful, nice black tones. I also find them very easy to sharpen with a sharp, straight knife blade. You just have to be very gentle when you sharpen them, and they're good to go!
I bought two of these pencils for my art class. The lead seems to be broken and shattered all the way up inside the pencil. Sharpening them is impossible. Perhaps they were damaged in shipment? Who knows. I'll have to try a different type next time.
The Good: These pencils are blacker than most of my other charcoal pencils. The Bad: you cannot sharpen these pencils without breaking them. I use a utility knife very gently but tried a Faber sharpener as well. They just break as you go down.
The best!
First off I should mention that I had very specific requirements when I bought this charcoal pencil. I use charcoal pencils for large scale life drawing and portrait drawing. The values are created by the build up of line. Unfortunately this pencil appears designed more toward those who smudge or smear to create value. Overall I would say it is a high quality charcoal pencil. It does provide a dark line. The only reason I did not give it five stars is that it does not effectively replace the old Ritmo formula that was so well suited for line values. In spite of that I do believe it is better than anything else currently available.
