#sweepstakes. I only have used a few colors but have them on my list for next order. I also have the Carbothello and the Gioconda Koh Nor set. The FC compare well with the Carbothello brand. I have noticed that sharpening them is no problem what so ever. They lay over nicely with a medium soft pastel stick like Rembrandt's. There are some nice skin tones available in the FB brand and some more greens little variety in browns. I am planning to order the ultramarine violet, light brown olive and russet in Caran d'ache though to have a full color range because there are times that I just like using the pencils. They also work great with colored pencils and even over watercolor as an underpainting.

I never did use pastels but via a Course of ArtTutor I got inspired. I bought the 36 box for making portraits. That went okay but had a short in the dark blue because that lead was broken. I did order more of them especially the white and black as spare pencils because you use a lot of them and bought several brown colors. One of my problem with the box is you miss some colors like the browns and the red color is not very bright. For animals I need different colors. Per haps a larger box had been better. I should be good to compare them with you goal in mind. It is a semi hard pencil. Lot of artist use them together with soft pastels and I understand that make sense especially when the format of you art is big.

Great price compared to competitor. Nice color assortment. I haven't used them for my hobby purpose yet, but have tried them on paper and am impressed. I think these are exactly what I have been looking for. Was shipped quickly. Arrived safely.
I discovered these pastel pencils while shopping in a local art store for a specific color that my Conte set did not have. I was also looking for a more efficient way to sharpen pastel pencils besides using my Exacto knife. Hint: the small, hand-held sharpeners they sell do not work. I purchased a few pencils that met my needs. I also discovered that the smaller diameter of these pencils fit into my electric sharpener, and, at least at first, had great success sharpening them without breaking. After a few weeks, I have found that I can only sharpen them about halfway before some break. But, it does still save time. The pencils themselves are fantastic. My work, influenced my by graphic design background, requires a lot detail and these pencils are ideal. I'm just getting into pastels, so I'm looking at a lot of different sticks, pencils, pans, and papers. I bought a bunch of the Faber Castell pencils based on various artists on YouTube and seeing differing results for the type of art I'm shooting for. They made an immediate difference, so I ordered more. I've been very pleased with the colors, hardness, and ability to sharpen. #sweepstakes
I love Faber Castell products! I had the set of 12 Pitt Pastels and decided to try out this full set of 60. I've never really used pastel pencils much before preferring to watercolor but I really enjoy using these pastel pencils. The pigment is rich, they don't crumble at all and are very easy to lay down color. Even on not-so-high quality paper, they still do an amazing job! Blick has the best prices too and fast shipping!
I work with soft pastels and some other brands of pastel pencils. These pencils are very hard. If you're looking to layer them over soft pastel sticks, you might not be able to. They layer over my hardest Carré pastels, but once you get beyond Rembrandt-level softness it gets difficult and you're better off using another product. They're great for pastel pieces made with pencils alone, though! I have found that they shine the brightest when I keep them away from the sticks.Another thing to note, that I did not quite expect when purchasing them, is their lightfastness ratings.... These are not rated the same as their colored pencil line, Polychromos. Many colors that are lightfast in the Polychromos line are rated as not being lightfast in this line. These are not rated the same as their colored pencil line, Polychromos. Many colors that are lightfast in the Polychromos line are rated as not being lightfast in this line. Their website has a page that discloses the ratings. Only 35 of the 60 pencils have a lightfastness rating of three. Most of the greens and reds are not lightfast. This is something to consider if your work is going to be sold or taken to shows/displayed in areas that have a considerable amount of UV light.Overall, these pencils are okay. They're not quite what I expected, but I do use them and like them. I may look into purchasing from other brands in the future though, to be honest.#sweepstakes
Faber-Castell Pitt Pastel Pencils are my go-to pencil for all my pastel pencil portrait work. They are a little harder pastel which makes them easier to sharpen without crumbling. They might require a little more application to get the richness desired but this has never been an issue for my pet portrait work. I love the vast selection of colors and this White is amazing.
This is a great set of pastel pencils that aren't too hard or too soft. Maybe a bit harder than the Stabilo Carbothello but in the same league. I reach for these often over some other brands I have. Once you use them for a bit, you know exactly what to expect from them and when to use them in your art piece. I would love to win #sweepstakes to help my DickBlick habit!
