Fat Brain Take-Along Shape Sorter Toy

I love this brand but this item didn’t have all the shapes in it and had to return it. I didn’t buy it again because I didn’t like how easy it was for all the blocks to fall out of the top when turning it over to find all the shapes holes. Also, they made the shapes that look the same the same colors. I didn’t like that because it made it confusing to learn the shapes. The square isn’t a cube so it looks like a rectangle if you pick it up wrong. I love the quality of this brand just bad experience with this item

My Review

Functionally this is a fine toy, and the quality is good. I have two main complaints! The first is that the box doesn't secure closed, so you can't have fun shaking the pieces around inside or toss it in the car without the pieces falling out. The second complaint (silly, though it may be) is that this requires some serious concentration! There are only a couple colors of the blocks, and a ton of the pieces look really similar (hexagon, octagon for example) and so it's going to really put my kiddo to the test. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it's more advanced than I was aiming for with my 9 month old. :) (

This is a great classic toy. Nice, vibrant colors and all wooden. I got it as a gift for my son's 1st birthday and he really seems to enjoy it, although he isn't sorting the blocks yet. He likes to empty them all out and put them back in the main opening on the top. The only thing I wish were different is the main opening; it would be perfect if there was some sort of latch to keep it closed when he moves the box upside down and on its side to look at the different shape slots. Overall very satisfied with this purchase.

We had been searching for something age appropriate for our twin one-year old nieces. Had no idea what to get, but we knew we wanted to ensure it was something cerebral. This was the perfect gift. No screens, or noises. Just old fashioned puzzling skills. The girls love the pieces, and I think they'll get the hang of where the pieces fit in soon.

I put in the play value and scale inputs since they're required, but currently I haven't actually let me daughter interact with the toy. The corners of the box are too sharp. I love the concept and think it will be a great toy when she's older (she's 11.5 months), but I just can't get comfortable right now leaving it with her. If the wood could be smoothed out on the corners, that would be awesome.We love all of our other (many) Fat Brain toys!!

My Review of Take-Along Shape Sorter

My 11 month old grandson is very interested in this box. He figured out how to open it at first, and has spent a lot of time putting a variety of things in it, and then removing them. So far, we have only given him the four blocks that match the holes on the top-it seemed like it might be overwhelming to give him all of them. He gets the idea that the shapes should go in the holes, but his favorite block (the blue clover shape) is very hard for him to fit in.My only hesitation in recommending this is that every single block/hole combo is different. I think it might be better if there was some repetition between shapes, while keeping the colors different. That would still be challenging, but would allow for a few more learning points.

Well-made, interesting even to a 1-year-old, and useful up to age 3 or more

My son was relieved that I had intentionally chosen a toy with NO BATTERIES and made of wood for his daughter. She is a just a bit young for this, but it should provide fun and learning for a couple of years. At present she tries to put a block into the correct hole, but can't quite manage the turning of the wrist needed to get it done. The blocks and box do make a very satisfying click sound when banged together, though--much better than plastic.
