It really depends how your parrot takes it, I have a cockatoo and a caique and they both had a strugle with it, however it does get them thinking but stresses them out a little when they have had enough, I felt if they didnt pick it up at the start they eventually give up on it. Only locking one lock at the start slightly is vital i think so that it gets used to the fact that it can unlock it if it tries. But overall its good to keep them thinking an idea is to take it out and put it back in after a couple of weeks, so they can take another shot.

Good buy for a clever parrot

My cockatoo figured out the toy in two minutes and it is one of the favoritest toys and now she goes for the toy straight away after she sees me filling it.

Good idea but not for birds who get bored easy
4 May 2010

I bought this for my Umbrella Cockatoo, I've wasted so much money on wooden toys (even Java wood) which all come to the unfortunate fate of a pile of sawdust on the bottom of the cage. I decided to invest in some acrylic type toys. Whilst the toys are very well made they come with cheap hanging chains with split links. If you own a bird who takes great pleasure in watching things fall from a great height which make a huge CLANG noise on the bottom of the cage you will waste your money with this item. As for the puzzle my bird solved this within 40 minutes and despite me forever filling the chest up with some goodies he had it undone in less than 2-3 minutes each time. I cannot stand there all day filling it up with things so eventually my U2 got bored of it hanging ... MoreI bought this for my Umbrella Cockatoo, I've wasted so much money on wooden toys (even Java wood) which all come to the unfortunate fate of a pile of sawdust on the bottom of the cage. This renders the toy useless as it needs the chain to function properly.

Great Fun

my little guy loves this treasure chest! he doesnt have quite the same level of agility with his beak and feet as a parrot, but he still figured out how to rotate and pull both keys out to open the box eventually. I recommend only locking one key to begin with to maintain their interest because if they cant figure it out they might lose interest

parrot's treasure great purchase
22 December 2009

We bought this product a year ago. Started of by removing the inner pins which keep the keys in place so that our parrot could just pull the key out. We started with just one key and she completed task within twenty minutes or so. Kept using the treasure chest like for a couple of days (two peanuts a day). On third day put in two keys and once again used it this way for a couple more days. After one week replaced one of the retaining pins in one key and within a couple of day replaced the second pin. After two weeks she could open both keys and is now at a stage that she can open the chest and and claim peanut quicker than we can load the chestThe main thing is to start off with just one key this stops the bird getting frustated and losing interest in the toy ... MoreWe bought this product a year ago. Excellent purchase if you bird enjoys peanuts and takes an interest in foraging toys
