Fellowes Automax 100m Micro Cut Shredder

Having burned out a couple of Amazon basic type shredders we decided to upgrade to something a bit more substantial and, in particular, one that could auto-feed itself. This AutoMax 100M has proven to be very good - we've worked through our backlog in a few hours with the unit rarely putting a foot wrong. When a jam does occur in the auto feeder it reverses up to allow you to get the paper out without having to engage with the teeth. It's not over-heated once (a regular occurrence before) and having a pull out drawer rather than a 'lift threading head' approach to emptying is much better; not perfect - the odd scrap still escapes - but a great deal less messy.It's also much quieter than previous models we've owned.

Average

Looks and sounds great till you get it and find that the moving parts in the upper path are all plastic. For the $$$$$ I don't expect it to last long. 100 page feeder jams easily, it takes one page at a time or a stack at whim. When it enters the cool down cycle any paper in mid shred gets stuck. For an office with confidential shredding papers can't be left hanging out with confidential information for all eyes walking by to see. There's no gauge to tell you how close it is to needing the cool down cycle which would allow you to stop before the machine does. Overall we're completely unimpressed.

Batch Shredding

This unit seems to be for batch shredding format. Single continuous shredding seems to have short cycle until unit shuts down for cooldown period. Work cycle seems short compared to previous Staple Model. Probably the design but is functioning normal with Batch Shredding.

Fellowes Shredder

Bought this one to replace the one I had. No comparison to my previous one. This one is not as sturdy and heavy duty. Frequently jams. Does not live up to its reviews that inspired me to purchase this unit. Glad I took out a three year policy on it. I rarely am unhappy but this gem leaves a lot to be desired.

Great Shredder with quiet tough operation

As a person having a home office, I have to have a shredder to help with shredding corporate (and personal) documents. Because of that, I have had a few shredders over the years. This Fellows shredder (AutoMax 100) is by far the most powerful and quietest that I have ever had. The auto-feed feature is awesome and makes larger batches so much easier. In the last few weeks that I have been using this shredder, I have not had any jams. This has replaced my older Fellows shredder, which will go to one of my daughter's home offices "I received this product for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review"

Quiet shredding with no effort

I've only been using it a little while but, this shredder is great! It's quiet and versatile. If you have a stack of paper to shred, you put the stack in the feeder section on the top, press a button and walk away. The shredder automatically feeds each sheet and shreds it into tiny pieces. You can hand feed the paper, too, if you want. It's totally worth the price.

So quiet!

This is my 2nd Fellowes shredder. My other one that finally bit the dust was pretty quiet. This AutoMax 100M shredder is super quiet. It has all the features I wanted. The 6 gallon bin gives me more capacity than my previous shredder. The auto feed works very well. I did have a couple of jams & was able to unjam the paper easily. Shredder can be easily run for 15 minutes continuously. A 35 min cool down period is necessary sometime after 15+ min. I haven't gone beyond 15 min. yet. My previous shredder worked well, but I needed one with more features & a heavier duty one to meet my shredding needs. This shredder is worth the money. I do think the user manual should explain how the blue on light functions during sleep mode and tips on how to get the blue light back on if it turns off & you can't get it back on. I ended up calling the company for assistance & got help.

This Shredder Stinks

This shredder is supposed to shred staples, but it literally has NO STAPLES all over the machine. It jams badly, and you can't feed more than 3 pages into it at once or it loses its mind. We had a Staples shredder for years that finally quit last week, and that thing could handle pretty much everything. Junk magazines? The shredder ate it. Plastic? No problem. And this one keeps saying the bin is full, but... it's lying. It's not full.

Voided my warranty for shredding....

...NEWSPAPERS. Yes, you read that right. I voided my warranty by using this shredder to shred newspapers (for my vermicomposting). Apparently, the ink in newspapers gums up the shredder. I've only had this useless shredder for a couple of months. IT CAN'T EVEN HANDLE NEWSPAPERS! LOL.On the plus side, Fellowes is mailing me out a replacement (junk) unit. This is a subpar shredder! Avoid at all costs, unless you like staring at the red light of doom (indicating a paper jam).

Worked exactly as I expected

I got this because of the ability to feed paper without having to be there, and the capacity. Sure it jammed a few times, but it was easy to clear. I was able to go through a huge amount of paper in under a day that would have taken me days if I had to manually sit there and feed it myself.You do need to remove staples if you are using the automatic feeder otherwise expect a paper jam as it pulls in more paper in a bad way.While it handles credit cards and the like, it does not handle CDs, it jammed trying to shred one.It was also reasonably quiet. You notice the sounds of paper being shredded, but it wasn't unbearably loud.
