I've owned and played bass guitars for 30 years now and I've owned several fender basses and the myriad clones out there of the J and P basses. That history and background left me with a bias against fender and an eye for other "better" production guitars like the Stingray which is my other go-to bass. That being said, I am blown away by this bass. It is a SOLID instrument with no flaws or blemishes that I can detect. It came from the factory with an almost perfect setup. I had to make a minor intonation adjustment on the low B and E strings but the string height, pickup height, and neck position were perfect.Fender's Ultra Noiseless pickups (a stacked humbucker really) sound great in passive mode emphasizing a fat bottom end and the tone nob adds a good bit of ... MoreI've owned and played bass guitars for 30 years now and I've owned several fender basses and the myriad clones out there of the J and P basses. The highs are kinda meh for me but the active switch takes care of that and I can get as bright as I want. The 18v active preamp provides a lot of room to boost or cut low, mid, and high frequencies to get just about any sounds I want (I still prefer my Sting Ray if I want to get real funky). This is about the best sounding 5-string I've had. Most 5-strings sounds great as 4-strings and SUPER muddy when you work the low-b string but this bass brings it out without too much mud.

This is a lovely guitar, I have a Fender Precision and a Rickenbaker 4003, this Fender Jazz has come to the top of the list. Smooth neck, unlike the lacquered neck on the Ricky, more comfortable to play and as it has active and passive, you can get the sound you want. Very pleased. Also, great service and price from PMT.

Excellent instrument. Sounds great. Feels perfect (neck), great sounds from pickups. A bit heavy but a great strap alleviates that.Fender seems to have put a lot of effort to upgrade pickups, neck, etc! No string through body, but has an updated bridge for better sound.

Great base but fender warranty isn't very good
5 October 2022

I bought this base back in April 2022. It sounds great and plays great. However, the front pickup recently quit all together. After a tech looked at it, it was discovered that it was a bad front pickup. It was beyond the store warranty, so I took it up with fender. After 2 weeks of going back and forth between them and the store that I bought it at, it was determined that fender would send the pickup to the technician if my choice and they would fix it. But it would take 30 days because they send it directly from the manufacturer. Which still boggles my mind, because the slowest mail would be less than a week?So my opinion of fender customer service has dropped considerably. However this is a great base if you happen to get one with good parts in it

I hate it.
18 October 2023

I think it's overpriced trash honestly. My cheap Squire sounds better. Doesn't have good tones, the passive tone literally does next to nothing. The volume knob spins freely-at delivery. It's a lame bass, full of unnecessary features that barely function-last fender I'll buy.

Recently sold a Ric 4003 to fund the purchase of this Ultra Jazz. Zero regrets! It looks amazing (photos don't do it justice) and plays like a dream. My first active bass and the tonal options are excellent.. Great being able to change things up without touching my amp. If you're in the fence..just pull the trigger. It's an amazing Bass

wow. I was nervous due to being a very expensive guitar. But it has blown me away. It is beautiful. The neck is a game changer for me. SO Playable all up the fretboard. And the electric set up gives so many options you can do it all with one guitar.

I mean… it’s Fender… you can expect anything less than phenomenal in my opinion. Although it looks completely white, it’s got a gold tinge with a glitter effect in the paintwork which looks absolutely sublime! The bass sounds and feels premium and is versatile in how you can shape its tone. It stays in tune well and feels very natural and comfortable to play. If you can? I’d say go for it every single time!

I love this bass. Playability wise, it’s the most comfortable bass I’ve ever owned. The neck, for me, is absolutely perfect.However…. Top line or not, it’s still made in a factory and under the hood, it shows….. I was disappointed that there was zero shielding in the cavities which lead to a lot of static interference (despite the noiseless pickups). I’ve had to pay £75 to have shielding paint done. Also the wires were not tied and were quite messy, meaning that it’s more prone to loose connections down the line.Another small issue was that the frets had not been polished properly and needed a good work over as had yellow marks on them.Tone-wise, it’s incredible. Very versatile and not much you can’t achieve with it. Though I don’t like the band they’ve used ... MoreI love this bass. Playability wise, it’s the most comfortable bass I’ve ever owned. Though I don’t like the band they’ve used for mids but that’s probably personal preference! All in all a fantastic instrument, but for the price, I would have expected fewer cut corners. That being said, with the tweaks, this is now my go-to workhorse bass.
