The switch that controls the power output (not sure where in the circuit this is) means you can set the amp volume on the sweet spot and then using the power sector control the overall volume so that there is no, or very little, change in the saturation/tone. At the lower wattage settings (1w & 5w) there isn't enough output to give a full sound out of two 12 inch speakers but is fine for low volume practice, 12w it starts to sing and at the 22w and 45w settings it rocks. Haven't needed to use the 85w setting yet..!! Well done Fender and excellent and quick service from GAK.In summary, a great amp.

I had a Super Reverb ToneMaster for a couple of months before I sold it. It's just not a very vibey amp, and to my surprise the tone was very rigid and did not accept pedals well. If you like tweaking your sound with pedals and or your choice of tubes to create a more personalized sound this is a dead end. I have a half dozen Fender tube amps and even my 30 year old fender Champ 12 was dramatically fuller, richer, had more depth and had a beautiful high end in comparison. Playing the Tone Master sounded like an recorded Super Reverb not an actual Super Reverb if that makes any sense. I would give it a solid so-so.I get why Fender is pushing them, they are inexpensive to make and are light. As the small, headphone amps have improved significantly, the lack of this feature on the larger, twin reverb tonemaster is no longer a concern. I highly recommend this amp to any guitarist looking for a versatile, adequately powered, light weight, good sounding, professional build quality, Fender amp at a moderate price.

I'd read some good reviews about this amp and thought i'd give it a try.First off, I think it looks great.Then you try and pick it up. It's got 4 x 10" speakers but it weighs less than all my 1 x 12" valve combos!This is so easy to lug around which makes it great for gigging and you can't beat having 4 speakers moving air behind you.I've plugged a variety of guitars in and they all sound great. Favourite is a Fender Cabronita Telecaster, they are a perfect match.Fantastic clean tone with just an edge of grit when required.The "attenuator" changing the power levels means you can dial in great tone at any volume. What a great amp! First, I do love the Sweetwater exclusive Wine Red tolex w/ Wheat grill cloth. Looks very cool, and still vintage looking. Second, Sweetwater's choice of the Jensen P12Q speaker was perfect! I'm not a fan of the C12Q Jensen, or any of their Ceramic speakers. I do love ALNICO speakers though, so this is perfect. Finally, a new amp that I don't have to change the speaker.... As for the amp, well...... it's a Deluxe Reverb! They just sound great! I'm very familiar with these, as I have had many. It was not at all hard to find my sound, it was right there! Takes pedals great. In conclusion, it's hard to beat a Fender amp!!
Ok, honest evaluation of the Fender tone master twin reverb map. I'm 72 years old, stuidied/played guitar 66 years. Played thousands of performances/gigs in every genre. Hold a B.A. degree in music. Have owned hundreds of guitars and amps in my time or have played through others in live situations. Played lead last weekend at a large outdoor event, they wanted pure surf music. I put together a band of some top musicians and I played a fender jazzmaster plugged into a fender reverb tank (amazing spring reverb but expensive) and a brand new Fender tone master twin reverb amp. I own an original 1968 Fender twin reverb that I bought new, love this amp but at my age I'm unable to lift it anymore let alone lift it up a stairway to the stage. The gates ol heaven in sound opened for me, really! It stayed clean but had a slight speaker breakup (very very little) that I love, never harsh but "creamy" for lack of a better word. Did not miss my 1968 twin reverb. The only thing I did feel was a little lack of tube compression, buy hey, no biggy. I think I found my new amp from now on! If you old guys are on the fence, just buy it and pretend it's tube and you'll never notice the difference. Welcome to the 21st century of new technology. P.S. my hollow bodies also sound great through it for jazz, etc. P.P.S. No! I'm never going to sale my 1968 twin reverb, my not use it but it's part of me and/or guitar history.

FYI, I've typically only owned/played tube amps for 30 years, and currently own the following: '65 DRRI, '64 Custom Deluxe Reverb, '64 Vibroverb Custom, '57 Custom Twin, and a number of Mesa amps including a Mark 5:35. I have major back issues, and as I've gotten older, I've moved away from the heavy, high wattage 2x12 amps and gravitated to the smaller, lighter 1x12s. The '64 Custom Deluxe Reverb has been my best sounding and primary amp the past several years. This Tone Master Super Reverb is now both the largest amp I own, and the lightest (4 lbs less than the Deluxe Reverb)! When I compare this TMSR amp tone side by side with my custom shop hand-wired tube amps, it's just as good or better to my ears (blasphemy!). The 4x10 configuration just produces a huge amazing tone. I use Fulldrive 2 MOSFET, JHS Morning Glory, and a Leslie G pedal. They all sound awesome thru the TMSR, pretty much the same response and tone as I get thru my tube amps. I recorded a couple outdoor gigs with it, and it is some of the best recorded guitar tones I've ever produced. The direct out also sounds great thru the PA (I use the SM57 IR). Two issues to point out: 1) the taper on the volume pots (both channels) is weird. You get barely any volume from 1-4. Then between 4 & 5 the volume increases substantially and then is normal taper the rest of the way. I updated the firmware to see it would change but it did not; 2) the volume of this amp is lower than expected, and I expect significantly less than a tube Super. For example, the volume at about 5 to 5.5 on this TMSR is about the same as my 20W '64 Custom Deluxe Reverb set at 4. But as you increase the TMSR volume from there, I think it eventually surpasses the Deluxe, but I doubt the top end is anywhere near as loud as a tube Super. That said, it's plenty loud enough for any application and it just produces a huge tone with the 4x10s.
Overall:I've always wanted a Super Reverb, but I've never lived in a place that allows you to reach that sweet breakup without damaging your hearing/getting evicted. I expected to get a good backup amp for gigs, and with the attenuator I figured I could make it a practice amp. I had no idea the tones could be as close as they are, and while I love my Carr Rambler dearly - this amp has become my go-to amp for practices and gigs. I will not hide that some of the "feel" that it's tube counterparts offer is not there. I'm no engineer, but perhaps that's transformer sag? Either way, I can tell you that once you get into a live-mix situation with other members, my ears can no longer distinguish digital from tube. The Jensen speakers in this amp really help with that, I ... MoreOverall:I've always wanted a Super Reverb, but I've never lived in a place that allows you to reach that sweet breakup without damaging your hearing/getting evicted. I expected to get a good backup amp for gigs, and with the attenuator I figured I could make it a practice amp. I had no idea the tones could be as close as they are, and while I love my Carr Rambler dearly - this amp has become my go-to amp for practices and gigs. I will not hide that some of the "feel" that it's tube counterparts offer is not there. I'm no engineer, but perhaps that's transformer sag? Either way, I can tell you that once you get into a live-mix situation with other members, my ears can no longer distinguish digital from tube. The Jensen speakers in this amp really help with that, I believe. In a band mix I have the attenuator on the 5w setting and it is PLENTY loud. The direct out in the back is so nice too! Flip on the standby switch to mute the Super's internal speakers and go direct to FoH or your interface quietly - and I do mean quietly. It's made recording so much easier and my bandmates are very happy with the quality. The other guitarist has abandoned his AC30 (for now) and picked up the TM Twin Reverb after hearing my Super. These amps are great. I would never say "tubes are dead" because I don't want them to be. This amplifier, however, is a great tool to have in any studio/backline for any musician. Highly recommend.
If you are sitting on the fence regarding buying this ... Just go for it !!All of my Amps are valve, and this is the first solid state modelling Amp that I have owned.I only bought this because a number of my friends who are professional recording and gigging musicians, have owned this Blonde version since it was first released.They have extensively used this Amp in many Professional situations ... and rate it very, very highly.It is totally reliable and very versatile in all situations.It is probably 95% there compared to the tube version ... and that is a winner in anyone's book !I love being able to crank this thing at home, and get that proper fender over driven sound (without the neighbours calling the Police!)Something I cannot do with my Tube twin ... MoreIf you are sitting on the fence regarding buying this ... We all know this amp is good already, if you have the money you should buy it. If you don't you should save or trade up. Don't do it here there. They pay so little when trading in gear that their employees may even suggest going somewhere else. That really happened. Also they want top dollar on all used gear. Try pricing any used item against the online gear exchange site. Oh they got your back with the price match guarantee. Been there. Not a reliable option. They will sqeeze you coming and going and not honor their commitments after the fact so just do yourself a favor a leave. So yeah you should get one if you can and you'll have an easier time achieving your goal somewhere else. Good news is this amp is a tank. The single handle on top will lead you to believe that's the best way to carry it. Don't. Not unless you want back problems and one arm longer than the other. Instead try bear hugging it, or cradle it by opposite corners if you cant get your t-rex arms around it. It will actually feel lighter. I like that Fender reissued this classic but, like the original they should've put handles on the sides. Remember to always lift at the knees and shop somewhere else!
