Awesome flashlight

A lot of light in a relatively small package, with great build quality. I like the two button operation where one button turns it on/off and another button selects the power level so you don't have to cycle through all of them every time you turn the light on or off. Set it to the power level you prefer, and the other button operates as a simple on/off switch. The on/off button is twice the size of the power control button, so you can tell which is which just by feel in the dark. The eco mode is fairly dim, but lasts 48 hours on a charge in that mode. The low setting is reasonably bright, and lasts 20+ hours, so that's where I typically leave it, and I doubt I'd ever use the eco setting. For general flashlight use the low setting is actually pretty good, and then as your light requirements increase you can bump it up one setting at time with the second switch. The turbo mode is insanely bright, and I'm not sure I'd ever have a practical need for that much light. When I bought it I wasn't sure about the fact that it doesn't have an adjustable beam focus (zoom) capability, but as you cycle through the med/high/turbo modes the beam does very well with the fixed reflector. It illuminates a wider area on the short end as the brightness increases, and in the high and turbo mode the beam throws a few hundred yards. There are reviews on the web that show how bright each mode is, the turbo mode is insane out of such a small package.Overall I'm pleased with the fixed reflector, it provides a very practical balance of long beam throw with wide enough coverage up close, so it always seems to have enough light everywhere I need it. I live in an area of 2-3 acre lots, so I have a lot of empty land to test it with and it is the best flashlight I've ever owned. I can't think of anything about it that I'd try to improve, and now that I've seen its light coverage pattern, I'm glad that it doesn't have an adjustable beam because that's just one more thing to have to adjust every time I turn it on for a different purpose than the previous time. The rechargeable battery is also a plus for me because I know its always on a full charge when I turn it on, and the runtimes are long enough that I won't use up all the charge for hours, even on the higher power modes. If I decide to buy a second battery, it uses a common size readily available from any battery supply source, but its not cheap at around $25 or so because of its high (5000mAh) capacity.

Excellent Light
20 May 2023

I investigate fires for insurance companies. Most of the time, when I conduct my inspections, the houses are boarded up with zero light. Like most of the tools I rely on the most, I buy a spare in case of a failure, or in my life, I drop it and it finds a hole just the exact size of the flashlight that leads to the abyss that I could never fit it in if I tried. So when that happened, I moved my spare up to the front line and went shopping for a new back up. I thought my old flashlights were bright until I bought the Fenix TK20R. There are five light settings. When I compared it to my other flashlight, I would have to say that my old one equaled the 3rd, maybe the 4th level of the TK, but when I kicked it up to the 5th, there was no doubt, the TK was much brighter. I love the ability to use a lower setting that doesn't create a problem with my camera. But I especially love the ability to light up a scene and know what I am getting into, like a hole in the floor the exact size of me.

My Dream Flashlight

This is the flashlight of my dreams. The throw of this light in turbo mode is 475 meters (519 yards) at 56000 candelas. That's over 5 football fields. It has EDC and Tactical modes, both with last light level memory. The USB-C Recharging port is well hidden without the use of a rubber silicone breakable cover. Simply twist the ring, below the light head, up or down, to open and close the watertight charging port. The memory settings are great. It goes into momentary strobe easily and a quick locked strobe is a simple procedure. It is finely machined with a Class A finish. The only thing wrong with it, is that it's advertised as a tail stand light, and it does not balance well, even on a completely flat and level surface. All said, it is a strong competitor to the Fenix TK16 V2.0 version. I'd say it's a big brother of the TK16 V2.0. The battery is strong and long lasting, as all 21700 5000mAh batteries are. I like the fact that all control of this torch is in the tailcup keeping your hand away from the hot head. And it does get hot, but nothing a good pair of range gloves can't handle. It is definitely a 5-star flashlight. Well worth the money if you need a new flashlight or if you're a fanatical collector like me.

I love this light. The tail switches are super intuitive and easy to use. I'm a police officer and I use this light on every patrol shift. It is extremely easy to manipulate with gloves and the different size of the tail switches ensure you always know which button you're pushing.I was on a call one day where a person was shining a light into officers eyes in a hallway, acting very erratically, and holding something metallic in her other hand. Due to the flashlight she was using on us, we could not identify what was in her hand. Our issued Streamlights were not bright enough to cut through the "cone of light" that her flashlight was putting out. Thankfully, I had this TK20r. TK20R V2.0 Versus TK16 V2.0

I have purchased 8 Fenix flashlights over the past 10 years and they have almost all held up incredibly well. Had one light go bad after 3 years and the Fenix Store promptly replaced it with a new one. Recently, I was trying to decide between the TK20R V2 and the TK16 V2 as my new hunting light. Since they are very similar and function almost identically, it was a tough choice so I bought them both. Both flashlights are great! The only real difference is that you don't have to remove the battery on the TK20R V2 to recharge. The USB-C port on the flashlight itself is a great convenience. The only other real difference is weight. The TK16 V2 is over a half ounce lighter. Can't go wrong with either choice. The eye of god

It’s gotten to the point over the past couple weeks that my friends and I only refer to the tk20r flashlight as the “eye of god.” Bright is an understatement, this can shine daylight down upon anybody, at any distance, in any location, it’s truthfully the eye of god. Flashlight shining on you? The eye of god will over power it. Dog ran into the woods? The eye of god sees all woods clearly. Friend doesn’t understand how a flashlight could have “assault mode”, hit them with the quick button strobe, and then eye of god. If you’re wondering if you need this flashlight, you do. Fenix didn’t pay me to write this review, I paid them for a product that I was perfectly fine with under performing, they sent me the hand of David. I am a retired engineer and a flashlight lover. I used flashights daily in my professional career and was continually seeking the all-around best light. This is it. The Fenix TK20R v2.0 checks all the boxes.I basically ignore the advertised max lumens since that level of intensity can generally not be maintained for more than a couple minutes. But the first step down in intensity is usually more sustainable. When that second level is 800-1000 lumens and can be sustained for a useful period it is a good light. This meets that first box.The light distribution is perfect. A tight hot spot and nice surrounding flood. This meets that first box.The light distribution is perfect. A tight hot spot and nice surrounding flood. By comparison, Fenix TK16 v2.0 is a nearly identical size, shape and output, but lacks the tightly focused hot spot and resulting throw. The dual tail switches are a great concept. The TK20R v2.0 tail switches give me easy access to power and mode without error. Again, by comparison, the siimilar TK16 v2.0 looks to have the same tail switch features BUT a subtle refinement separates the two lights. The lower/smaller Functional Tail Switch on the TK20R.v2.0 sits slightly lower relative to the Tactical Tail Switch than is found on the TK16 v2.0. I get frequent unintentional mode changes when using the Tactical switch on the TK16. Those unintentional mode changes do not occur with the TK20R v2.0.A subtle conflict exists in modern flashlight features and design where "charging" is concerned. Some, like myself, would prefer to not have a flimsy rubber plug to cover a critical hole in my flashlight preferring to carry a spare battery and charge my spares in a external charger rather than tie-up the light for 3-4 hours while the battery is being charged internally. Others must prefer the USB charging capability. The TK20R v2.0 solves this flawlessly. For those who prefer, a USB charging, a port is provided but it is nicely hidden and protected under a threaded collar that screws down to reveal the USB port. The best of both worlds! Finally, a word about size. The very nature of the 21700 battery dictates that this light is large for an EDC light. But carry is not impossible. It is a very compact and comfortable size and can be carried in a pocket. I'll compare or contrast this to the Streamlight Stinger 2020. The light output, pattern and battery life is similar on the two lights, but the Stinger cannot be carried in a pocket. If you can manage the relatively higher price of the TK20R v2.0, do it. You will not regret this purchase.
