Simpson and Day's Field Guide to the Birds of Australia is the best guide out of the 3 I've used in my lifetime. It has the location, habitat, female, male, and immature plumage, and contains native, introduced and vagrant bird species. It contains the bird's conservation rating, and includes their nesting times and locations throughout Australia. Even when you're not out in the field, it's still fun to look at the amazing illustrations- one or more for every bird this book contains. The ease of use and identification makes it suitable for all ages. This is a book which can encourage kids to learn independently and may spark a lifelong hobby. This is the best book I have used to help me find, identify and later research any Australian bird I may come across.

I've used this to ID birds a few times and have found the process really easy.the pictures are lovely and I enjoy the layout. I can't make comparisons to any other bird ID books though.
This book is a classic. The ilustrations are accurate beautiful, and make it easy to recognise birds in the field. That is what it is designed for and it fulfills the promise. There are other books but I use this the most and it is the one I take on my trips.
I bought this for my mum. She uses it every day to identify birds in her garden and now she teaches the grandkids and I had to buy another book. It's awesome.
Have had a copy of this book in various editions for many years, and I find it much better that others I have looked at.Extremely helpful to me.
We gave our last copy away and having moved location needed to get another. This book was a winner hands down for us - had everything we needed being occasional bird watchers.
Excellent descriptions and birds easily identified by pictures. Easy to navigate bird types and to which family they belong.
I bought this book as a gift for my youngest daughter as she wanted a good reference guide. We have owned the same book for many years and it lives on the back verandah with the binoculars. This is a great Australian bird reference book. Easy to read and look up bird families. Lots of concise information and pictures. Highly recommend this book.
