I've only just started it, but this game is already very compelling. Interesting story, engaging gameplay, it's everything Fire Emblem should be. Honestly, this game was held back by releasing in 2017, when attention was off of the 3DS.

The box for this game is great and large, similar to how obnoxiously big the box was for Breath of the Wild Special Edition on Switch. This isn't a bad thing. The title is in gold leaf print offset by the matte finish of the rest of the box. The contents of the box are the game, beautiful art book, soundtrack, and pin collection. If you can get a hold of it this set is a great collectible for Fire Emblem or Nintendo fans and looks absolutely great displayed on a shelf. The game itself is great and a slight departure of the other recent games. Permadeath is still able to be disabled for those who fear the difficulty of these games, but I feel the story telling has been improved and the 3D RPG style dungeons are a welcome feature in my book. I love the Fire Emblem Series! Ever since The Sacred Stones on GBA I loved the grid turn based strategy style of controlling your own units and defeating the enemy without casualties to reach victory. And its only improved over time with titles such as Awakening & Birthright/Conquest. But Echoes is easily my new favorite due to one major addition and thats full voice acting instead of just reading text or only some lines being voiced. Its so well performed that each character feels so much more alive and now more than ever you will reset over and over if you fail if only just to keep characters alive just for the chance to hear more conversations down the line and see them develop. If your new to the Fire Emblem series PLEASE do yourself a favor and start with this ... Fire Emblem Echoes is a complete remake of a older title from 13? years ago. It is a great entry point for people interested in the series. It is a tactical strategy RPG, meaning that you will control a small army of characters on a grid based area, taking turns attacking, healing, casting and outwitting the enemy to victory, and then the story moves on. The story is also affected by your choices and unfolds differently. The game is much more geared towards action and game play and less long winded and relationship heavy than Fates.
This is a great Limited Edition package. It comes with a very tall hardcover art book. This is awesome because the images are very large, and I always prefer a hardcover art book over paper back in these types of collections. It also comes with a CD sound selection. Many people may dislike this since it's on a CD, but I personally love video game music an really enjoy this type of item. Most special editions have a small random item, and in this case, it's a 3-piece pin set of Marth, Celica, and Alm all done in an 8-bit style which is really cool. Another feature of the limited edition is the reversible box art on the actual physical copy of the game. These are really cool, and even more so here because the reverse side shows the box art from the original game. The ... MoreThis is a great Limited Edition package. I feel another FE game in the same style as Awakening and Fates would have been overkill, especially ahead of FE for Switch, but Nintendo was really smart with the remake. The different style and flow makes this a really fun and different experience worth owning.
I was incredibly skeptical going into this game because of the sour taste left by Awakening and Fates, but I can now soundly say that Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is one of the best Fire Emblem games in existence. It stays faithful to the original Fire Emblem Gaiden, the game that Echoes attempts (successfully) to remake while also pushing the bar in storytelling and gameplay. My favorite gameplay aspect is the exploration of dungeons, which never seems to get old for me.Be warned: This game returns the beloved series to its roots and forgoes content like marriage/childbirth, unnecessary support conversations (support conversations are present but not overly tedious like in Awakening and Fates), and pairing units on the battlefield. This creates a gameplay and storytelling atmosphere that is straight to the point, rewarding, and by no means a waste of time. If you only enjoy Fire Emblem games thanks to the unrelenting fanservice and harem aspects that Awakening and Fates built its success on, this game may not be for you.The Limited Edition itself is absolutely stunning. The North American release received a beautiful box worth displaying. The pins are a nice addiction, but what really shines are the soundtrack and art book included. Clearly no expense was spared creating a music score and character artwork for Echoes.I highly recommend this Limited Edition and the game itself. Fire Emblem Echoes will not disappoint longtime fans of the series and lovers of a good, solid story.
Fire Emblem SoV is a beautiful and addicting fire emblem game. It has a more traditional feel with its story and character focus, and is where it particularly shines. Gorgeous artwork by Hidari really makes the game pop, and the choice to include full voice acting for the first time in fire emblem's history was genius. The team chose the voices very well, with the actors adding individuality amongst the cast, each character has their own quirks and their personality shines throuugh in a realistic way, as opposed to being too over the top.Gameplay is fairly unique for a fire emblem, but I think that makes it stand out. Mechanics such as mages using their health, a more straight forward hit/avoid system, and three or more tiers of promotion make this game so much more interesting to play. It's not very difficult on normal mode, and the maps are not the most interesting, however. Saying that, I think its map design is on par with Awakening's, but if anything I'm having more fun with this slightly unique way to play fire emblem.
A real challenge to the newer games to the series. For those of you who have started out playing either Awakening or Fates, this will be a real change to the formula, and for those of you who started out with some of the older games, this will also appeal to you too. The game harkens back to a more RPG style game play with a sense of free roaming in towns and cities, and dungeons scattered across the realm. The game also boasts some truly rounded characters with depth, complexity, and truly expressionate voice acting to boot. Die hard fans of the Fire Emblem series will love this game, but it appeals to all fire emblem fans alike, as there is something that appeals to everyone. Whether looking for a challenge, an engaging story or simply a change to the format. This ... MoreA real challenge to the newer games to the series. I am very happy that Nintendo decided to remake Fire Emblem Gaiden, which was previously Japan-only and lavished it with so much love. While there are some innate issues due to the remake adhering to the source material, the production values (especially the full voice acting) are superb and really make the game stand out from the rest of the series. As for the limited edition itself, overall it is a very nice package, although I would've loved to have the HD Movie Blu-Ray Collection that Japan got. While the amiibo are nice, I would have preferred to buy them separately because the amiibo ended up bloating up the package. Also, I am pleased that Nintendo allowed a second chance to obtain it closer to the game's release. Finally, I would have enjoyed a special gift ... For example a T-shirt like the one included in the standard edition. I don't understand why there's disparity between the two editions...
A wonderful return to form. As much as I enjoyed Awakening and Fates, this is the first Fire Emblem since the Gameboy Advance titles that I've really loved. It never feels too padded, the dungeons far more satisfying for short grinding than the endless side missions of Awakening; I'm very glad the creepy first-person character interaction stuff is gone; the game is sufficiently challenging while the limited ability to turn back time allows for occasional experimentation without massive punishment.Just a wonderful entry in a great series; it turns out that looking backward was the perfect way to move things forward.
