The hack n' slash mechanics are pretty straightforward in that you will be pressing Y and X a lot. That being said, its action gameplay has a surprising amount of depth in the combo variations of each class / job. If you liked the Three Houses title, I strongly recommend picking this up. Much of the storyline could be taken out of context otherwise, but you may still enjoy for the gameplay alone! Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is more of Three Houses in a more action-oriented game... which has its positives and negatives. Visually the game is very much in-line with Three Houses, which has the benefit of great playable character designs and strong art-direction, but this also comes with a very drab color palette and a lack of compelling enemy variety. The soundtrack features great remixes from Three Houses and the voice acting is largely great as well, though there are a few characters that feel a bit miss-cast among the newcomers. I enjoyed seeing characters that were only mentioned in passing in Three Houses, such as Holst and Monica, get their time to shine as fully fleshed-out characters (some even being playable). I enjoyed seeing characters that were only mentioned in passing in Three Houses, such as Holst and Monica, get their time to shine as fully fleshed-out characters (some even being playable). Unfortunately this comes at the cost of reduced roles for characters like Hanneman, which is disappointing. The mission variety is nice but there are so many missions across the three storylines that what variety it has still ends up bordering on tedious. The process of leveling up facilities at your base also seems like a good idea that becomes incredibly tedious, trading materials back and forth for hours on end to get the ones you need in the late game. As for the stories themselves... they're... something. Claude's is a nightmare of bad choices and self-doubt on his part (a radical departure from how he is portrayed in Three Houses). Edelgard's and Dimitir's are better, with Dimitri's in particular being a step above his route in Three Houses, but its clear that the overall narrative is messy. A lot of the game's conversations revolve around every character saying one or two lines along the lines of "we need to be careful" or "we can do this" and it gets old very quickly. A solid effort to bring Three Houses into the Warriors format, but it could have used a bit more time in the oven. Its pretty obvious that they got it out as quickly as they could to make way for Fire Emblem Engage to have the spotlight all to itself. It lacks the abysmal performance issues of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, but I think that game was better at its core.

A great spinoff for Fire Emblem fans.

Following the disappointment that Three Houses was for me, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes was the second chance the game needed to win me over. Not only has the story changed for the better here, but the gameplay has been adjusted and built upon not as a strategy game, but a Warriors style game now. As a result, the social sim elements have taken a backseat in favor of a gameplay driven experience with much more optional dialogue. Compared to Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, this game runs much better and seems like something the Switch can realistically handle, and has a playable framerate. Fire Emblem Three Hopes is two things— a 1. Warriors / Musou game and 2. a “what if” story based on Fire Emblem Three Houses. For those of you who have played Warriors games before, this game will be one of the best you’ve played— it has all of the elements introduced in Zelda Age of Calamity, and it’s improves everything (even the frame rate!). Plus, it has many new elements specific to the Fire Emblem series, such as classes, support ranks, weapon durability, etc. and honestly, the best part about the game is the fantastic story— probably the best Warriors story on Switch, and it has all of your favorite Three Houses characters too. If you haven’t played a Warriors game before, you should play the free demo of this game on the Nintenso eShop before you buy it. If you have played them and don’t like the gameplay (strategic 3D brawler against hundreds of soldiers where the soldiers almost don’t matter— the strategy of which soldiers you go after does). You can’t button mash your way through this game, but there IS a lot of pressing the same two buttons to combat the fields of enemies. It’s very complex if you give it a chance, but people who don’t like this genre might not make it to the complex parts if they can’t see past the core gameplay. Overall, I love this game and you will too if you like Warriors / musou games. If you don’t like this genre or aren’t sure, play the demo first.

Great for Fire Emblem fans!
6 July 2022

I don't generally care for the Dynasty Warriors/musou type of combat, but this is really good version of it. It leans more heavily on the Fire Emblem part of the game than the Warriors, which makes combat more interesting than the mindless button mashing of the typical Warriors game. Obviously there is still button mashing, but the strategy of FE is definitely an important aspect! And of course, this also gives us an alternate storyline of Three Houses, which I think most fans will greatly enjoy. Highly recommend for Fire Emblem Three Houses fans!

Not what I was hoping for FE Warriors 2!
26 December 2022

The first FE Warriors was one of, if not my favorite game in the Warriors franchise for its smooth gameplay, hack and slash fun with the satisfaction of tactical planning and unit building, and featuring characters from multiple FE games. So far, the gameplay still holds up well and the soundtrack is great. However, I am not a fan of the Three Houses only direction. I was hoping for another collaboration between universes featuring the twins from the first game or better yet, Alfonse and Sharena from the mobile game, as well as more fan favorite characters. Fire Emblem has potentially the most characters in any Nintendo game, and the Warriors series has been known to deliver games with huge rosters. As for the story, while I know the first game was nothing to write home about, I find myself less engaged with this and find myself skipping text a lot. Maybe it's just me getting older. I'm glad I got this on a $20 sale. Here's hoping Engage will be a good game!

The best Warriors game
19 July 2022

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is easily one of, if not the, best Warriors games ever made. An excellent alternate timeline to Fire Emblem Three Houses which manages to be equally compelling to the original, while also not replacing it. The game has 3 distinct stories clocking in at around 30 hours each. A robust roster including almost every playable character from the original, and even a few former NPCs. Every character has a unique mechanic and pool of learned skills that makes them distinct from other characters with the same core moveset. Moveset quality is really high, with every playstyle being completely viable. The addition of RPG and strategy elements from Three Houses adds a great deal of depth to the Warriors formula. Three Houses Continuation
26 August 2022

For anyone who enjoyed playing Fire Three Houses, definitely get this game. Three Houses is my favorite game on the switch as i played every single route and completed the DLC. I personally put over 300 hours into that game. When this was annocuned i couldn't wait to get it. It has not disappointed as it brings back the same feeling i had when i played that game. Looking forward to completing all the routes and unlocking all the characters.

Three Houses meets Dynasty Warriors

Very enjoyable Fire Emblem spinoff game in the style of Dynasty Warriors. Brings back all your favorite characters, and similar to Three Houses allows you to play as three different factions and recruit characters throughout the game. New Game + grants additional replay value and lets you maintain your equipment and levels to play on higher difficulties and brave the 'Classic' mode. You can even play couch co-op and have a friend control one of the other characters! Only knock on this one is that it is a bit repetitive and pretty easy, especially in new game plus. Also, you can't play online. The campaign is fairly linear, and you do not get the opportunity to manage the war on the world map which would have been cool. Still, great voice acting and compelling twists ... MoreVery enjoyable Fire Emblem spinoff game in the style of Dynasty Warriors.
