Although the image looks like the three tins are packed in a plastic wrapper, I was very pleasantly surprised that they were in a cardboard box container - and no plastic anywhere. A bit more expensive that John West, but these are line caught and are traceable back to the actual fishing boat in the Azores. Worth spending that little bit extra IMO.

I felt compelled to write a review for this as it was so, so bad. I made a tuna & sweet corn sandwich with this today and it tastes so incredibly revolting that I threw it away. I have also disposed (safely) of the remaining tins. I am not one to throw away food unless it is heinous. It also has the consistency of cheap tuna chunks. Truly foul!

Really nice meaty chunks of tuna steak, much nicer than the soggy flakes that you get with cheaper versions of tinned tuna. However I was quite surprised at how salty this 'spring water' version is - its more akin to the 'in brine' types. Still enjoyed it, but certainly did not require any extra seasoning! These 160g cans leave you with 110g of drained tuna - so no extra content when compared to the 'no drain' brand, despite extra cost.
I bought two tins recently and found that the drain-weight was so small that I had to use both tins where I found to use only one. The quality was poor - the flesh looked more like a tin of tuna flakes rather than a whole piece and it was surprisingly salty, despite being in spring water, not brine. Poor. Disappointing.
The tuna has changed and now has a very strong smell and unpleasant taste. I tried purchasing on 3 different occasions and was let down each time. I hoped it was a bad batch but no. I won't be purchasing again.
This is our regular tuna. It is important that the fish is sustainably sourced or we will just run out of it like North Sea Herring and Cod. It tastes great. It is more like flakes than steaks but we just put in into various dishes where we want it flaky anyhow so all good. Would be good to have larger tins too. Otherwise, can't really fault it and I can smile knowing that tasting good doesn't cost the longer term availability of this species.
Love the fact that these are cardboard packed in a tin by a producer who have shunned plastic, Also love that this is ethically caught Tuna BUT the brine is the saltiest I've EVER come across which is a shame because the fish is firm and has a great texture .... but all I could taste was salt!
Purchased this fish a few times. First two times the tuna was pretty tasty and I couldnt understand the bad reviews on this website. On the last occasion the tuna was really bad. Smelt bad I ended up throwing it all away. Out of interest I decided to see where the fish had come from and tried entering the code at the bottom of the tin onto the website Doesnt work. Its main USP is the fish is ethically caught and traceable ! V bad product . Avoid
the texture is firm and the flavour is delicious, thanks to the added salt I guess! we taste tested this against M&S equivalent (which is better than John West) and this is by far the best.
