Clothes and sheets come out incredibly clean on the Eco-Active setting, and compared to my previous top loader, the fast spinning removes far more water with virtually no noise. The only slight inconvenience is that the fabric softener cup needs to be removed before pouring detergent down the hollow agitator. However, it’s not difficult to remove/replace, more like an extra step. Before my purchase, I read several reviews about this washer being harsh on clothing. Having used mine for a year, I find that the agitator is necessary in producing extremely clean results, but I have also observed that it’s reasonably gentle. The flexible fins along the agitator help prevent both stretching and tangling, but I suggest to anyone who is concerned about potential roughness on fabric is to drop clothing into the machine and avoid wrapping them around the agitator. Another aspect to consider is the spin option. Between 300, 700 and 1100, I normally pick 700. I find that a combination of the above helps with gentle, but effective, cleaning each time.

After our Fisher & Paykel 8.5kg machine passed after 10yrs on 17th Dec - we purchased this eco - thinking not much has changed in design - stick with what you know - right??? as we like the Fisher & Paykel washer brand, easy to use touch control, quiet and all other functions. So ordered online, was easy & delivered on 19th (so fast) & by lovely helpful guys (DJ). However to my surprise these new machines are a smaller build, have a smaller lid & opening - bonus extra laundry space BUT this makes it tighter to fit in your larger items; sheets, blankets & doonas for washing. My older machine had plenty of space at top/lid to manipulate your items comfortably around the centre agitator, this machine is a squeeze. My Fisher & Paykel 8.5kg WashSmart Eco Top Load Washing Machine fits into my small laundry but has the capacity to wash bed linen and heavy loads without being noisy. It is a smart machine, which allocates the appropriate water level depending on the load you use. It has a 4 star energy rating and a three-and-a-half star water rating. I am very happy with my purchase. My only issue was the hose that attaches to the laundry sink outlet - as it was rather long, since my machine sits right next to my laundry sink, which is why I gave four stars for the 'Build Quality'.
