As a champion of Fishman gear, I have to say that the Loudbox Mini Charge represents a bold and much needed step forward in battery powered amplifiers. In addition to decades of festival and club performances, I frequently turn to busking for extra money, fun, and promotion. Until now, choices regarding battery amps have been slim and inadequate. How many of you performers out there have been suffering through the torture of playing through junky, anemic little boxes that don’t even come close to expressing your true sound? I was definitely there. Until now!! Fishman has really come through with the Charge. It’s everything you love about their amps, but chargeable and ready to move with you. No compromises and nothing dumbed down. It’s about time somebody stepped up ... MoreAs a champion of Fishman gear, I have to say that the Loudbox Mini Charge represents a bold and much needed step forward in battery powered amplifiers. I can't get over this little thing. Just got it today. My guitar sounds more natural than anything else I've plugged it in to. The reverb is nice and warm. I'm not a big Chorus user, but this chorus is nice. The mic channel works well too. Again, very natural sounding. Loudbox is a good name. It's good and loud. I can't wait to get it out on a gig. Setup time will be quick. I highly recommend this from AMS.

My duo plays the occasional no AC power gig with an inverter running off one of our cars, but I was never comfortable with that setup (hood open, kids running around, no one watching...). I have a simple passive mixer to get my duo's two guitars into the Mini Charge's guitar input and an XLR Y-cable to put both mics to the mic input. We also play essentially all acoustic gigs, but I would like to be able to use my RainSong Parlor with 10s, which needs a little help to keep up with a Martin Dreadnought strung with 12s. The idea of an amp that is as portable as an acoustic guitar appeals to me (I don't need to plug-in an acoustic guitar). The Mini Charge trades the older Mini's class A-B amp and analog power supply, for modern lightweight digital switchers. At roughly the same weight as the older Mini it adds a sealed lead acid battery. Within my willingness to endure loud, it seems to sound the same whether running off the battery or plugged into the wall adapter. The reverb is excellent, and the overall tone is probably as good as it gets for anything that small and light. I also tried an electric bass guitar and my Les Paul (with and without a Tube Screamer clone), and both sounded respectable too. Note that the Mini Charge runs on 12 volts with an AC adapter, which is also a nice option if you've got an extra 12-volt battery. The price up-charge from the older Mini is significant and if you don't want the battery, clearly the older Mini is a better deal, but it is no lighter and the same size. BTW I got the free carry bag promotion and the bag is for me too protective and bulky and I would never bother with it.

I bought & use this AMP specifically for playing music outdoors where no power/PA is present. Im amazed at how good it sounds. I dont need my pedal - its built-in effects do a great job for me. Plus, the vocal reverb adds an extra touch I dont normally have either. I have only had this a week and used it live one time. My associate has had his for over a year and Im so impressed with how good he sounds that I picked myself up one as well. Get yourself one. It is on backorder likely - it often is. Its worth the wait. I dont think youll find something quite on par with this for this price
First: Fishman amps are great, I know this amp is solid because we already have a Loudbox Mini and wanted to get the battery-powered version as well, for more gigging flexibility. This review is about Sam Ash, not Fishman. This item was listed as "New" (at the corresponding price point), but what I ended up getting was a poorly-packed floor model from a random store location that didn't even work. I plugged it in for 2 days and it never even started to take a charge. I sent it back and am still waiting to get my refund. I should have known this would be a bad experience, every other time I've dealt with Sam Ash it's been horrible in some way. Save yourself the time and trouble and go look on another site!!!
I purchased the Loudbox Mini Charge to use in small settings as a solo fingerstyle acoustic guitarist. So far I've found very little I don't like about this amp. It has great volume and tone for its size ... it really sounds wonderfully articulate despite the fact it simply can't match the headroom of larger, more powerful units. Then again, it's designed for small venues. The reverb and chorus settings are well-executed and pleasant sounding and the three band eq is responsive. Bluetooth is easy to pair and use making this a potential boon at deck and tailgate events. If I had to list negatives my first gripe would be that the channel two input is XLR only. It would have been nice to see a combination jack here for times when players want to use a second ... MoreI purchased the Loudbox Mini Charge to use in small settings as a solo fingerstyle acoustic guitarist. It would have been nice to see a combination jack here for times when players want to use a second instrument input. However, a passive DI box will solve that issue. The other missing feature is an anti-feedback circuit. There is a phase switch but the lack of a true auto-notch on an amp in this price range seems strange. Finally, the on-board battery makes this unit heavier than it looks. It easily outweighs a Fender Acoustasonic 90 even though the Fender is physically twice its size. Those issues aside, the Loudbox Mini Charge is a great performing little amp with the bonus of being battery powered when needed. I'm definitely a fan.
The Fishman Loudbox Mini was already a great amp, with faithful and transparent acoustic guitar sound and vocal output, and subtle reverb and chorus. Where other amps I've played through produce a midrange-heavy sound that obliterates much of the nuance of acoustic guitar and vocal, the Fishman is both sophisticated and easy to use. It's also very portable. With the Charge, I can play anywhere I want, haunting parks and spaces without outlets to my heart's content, until the authorities or the grumpy neighborhood denizens show up - they haven't, so far. Fishman did well to add texture to their Tolex, which previously picked up nicks and scratches if you so much as breathed on it. This little amp is real godsend for the pop-up musician. Not inexpensive, but worth it.
I played several shows using my wife's Loudbox Mini Charge, just to see if it would work for my Turbocaster Electric Guitar. It worked amazingly well, so I bought one for myself. I will use my Deluxe Reverb for smaller Jill & Kevin duo shows, but with a drummer & bass player, the Mini sounds great in a little less intimate setting, and a little bit more volume, with my electric. It ALWAYS sounds amazing with an acoustic guitar, and the mic channel always sounds great! It would make an absolutely wonderful busking amp!!!
So far I've just practiced with it at home and the sound is superb, especially the low end being very present and not muddy. Big bonus for me is I can easily carry it in one hand and guitar in the other so no need for multiple trips. Another reason I got it is for my outdoor gigs where access to electricity can be iffy. Wish I would have got this a few years ago when they first came out. It's made my setup easy and I sound great.
Overall:This amp sounds so good playing a Taylor acoustic through, the on board effects are smooth and polished and very balanced... The low end of this little amp is very impressive and HOLY $&@! this little box is freaking LOUD!!! It 100% lives up to its name, add the fact that you can charge it up and use it away from any power supply means you can play music anywhere and from my experience with using it for about 2 years now the charge still lasts about 6 hours at 50% master volume of playing before needing a charge again and that’s more than enough playing time for most people, now that playing time I’ll go down a bit if you crank it up to 85% volume but will still last about 3 hours. I give this amp a 9.5/10 only because the carry bag is a must have but is ... MoreOverall:This amp sounds so good playing a Taylor acoustic through, the on board effects are smooth and polished and very balanced... I give this amp a 9.5/10 only because the carry bag is a must have but is sold separately and it’s a little pricy for what it is, if your paying just over $500 for a very small mini carry amp to me the carry bag should be included in that price tag IMO speaking that you can buy a Randall half stack head and cabinet for about the same price.
