I recently bought a pair to hopefully reduce the strain on my tendonitis, the design is effective at reducing the effort required to cut through materials. The overall feel is bulky, the blade is very sharpbut unfortunately brittle if you contact something other than wood, and the plastic handles seem a bit flimsy under heavy loads. For the price it's a good pruner, the design works to reduce forearm strain.

So far the Fiskars Power Gear 2 Soft grip Hand Pruner is very nice! According to the description, the patented gear technology multiplies your leverage to give you up to three times more power with every cut, which means you can easily clip through thick stems and branches that normally you might not be able to cut with a traditional pruner and so far that has been my experience. It cuts through fairly thick branches like butter and it does not kill my hand while I am doing it because it has a contoured handle with a unique rolling design that fits the natural shape and motion of your hand. On top of that it has "soft grip" touch points so that you have a more comfortable and secure grip, and it is super comfortable compared to my old pruners! The newly updated ... So over all, I like the these pruners very much as they are very easy to use and they work hard so that you do not have to.

These pruning shears work very well. Being new, you would expect them to be sharp, and they are. But there is also a lot of leverage because the handle travel is large compared to the shear distance. Simple physics. However, this could be a negative for some because even with my relatively large hands, my fingers barely reach when the handles are fully extended. So for smaller hands and full sized 3/4 inch cuts, you may need to use two hands. One other point for me was the rotating handle. It just felt strange to me to have the finger half of the handle rotate as you squeezed. I understand that it is probably a more natural feel for people who did not grow up using the non-rotating handles, but as someone who did, therefore are is to my fingers sliding over the ... These pruners were shipped to me for my unbiased review. Springtime is almost here and the weather has been beautiful these past couple of days to get started on yard work and try these out. First off, I was surprised they were so small. I have an older pair of pruners/shears with much longer handles, I suppose I was expecting - hoping - these would be similar. The length on these from tip to handle end is approximately nine inches. The handles are made of hardened grained plastic for gripping better. The blades appear to be heavy duty steel. There is a button on top of the handle to lock the blades when not in use. The gear design is inside the plastic, so I have no idea how that works. The gear design is inside the plastic, so I have no idea how that works. With that being said, these pruners work super well at cutting branches that I otherwise wouldn't think it could handle for it's size. According to the packaging, it has a 3/4 cut capacity. It also states that it stays 5x sharper but I don't know what that is in comparison to and it doesn't look like these blades can be easily sharpened if needed. Like I said I'm a little disappointed that the handles don't give me a longer reach and the blades only open out so far, unlike my older pruner/shears, which work more like scissors that are able to reach a tree's inner branches and higher up more easily. Maybe that's the difference between pruners and gardening shears, I don't know.
These grips are fantastic. I spent some time over the weekend pruning my rose bushes that were very overdue for a cutback. I had quite a few branches that were thick but these pruners cut through them like butter. They fit nicely in my hands, and really do feel somewhat soft to the touch. The jaws open up pretty wide to accommodate thicker branches, so I had no trouble pruning all sizes of branches of my rose bush. I also really like the safety feature on the pruning shears that locks the jaws as I could see it being a danger if little fingers were to find their way inside them. I also like the design of the shears- the two tone color scheme makes them really stand out. Overall, I these shears are a terrific addition to my gardening tools and I definitely recommend ... My last Fiskar pruner was about 20 years old and still going. I think it got scooped up and thrown out with some yard waste last fall. This Fiskar PowerGear2 SoftGrip Hand Pruner is such an improvement over my lost pruner. It’s lighter, fits my hand better and is easier to cut thick branches. Walmart's price was the lowest. I’m so happy to have this new Fiskar pruner!
I have small hands and sometimes it is hard to find a pruner that is easy for me to grip with one hand. The best pruners I have tried always work well with two hands. The Fiskars Softgrip Hand Pruner is small enough to fit in one hand but is pretty powerful. The grip is comfortable and the handles are easy to push together. I tried it on some thin branches of a berry tree in my backyard. The blades cut through the branches like butter, so I assume the blades are extremely sharp, so be careful when using. I cut a lot of branches off my tree and had no fatigue in my hand afterwards. When you are done using the pruner, you have the ability to lock the two blades together for easier storage and safety. When you are done using the pruner, you have the ability to lock the two blades together for easier storage and safety. The pruner is made well. The handles are rubberized, which helps make the grip comfortable and the pruner has a little weight to it as well. It is not heavy to hold but you can tell it is not cheaply made and won’t break after one use. I only tried it on thinner branches, so I do not know how it will perform on thicker ones, but it works great on small branches, bushes and flowers.
My gardening just got easier with my new FISKARS pruner. I don’t have to worry about constantly sharpening the blades because of the UltraBlade blade coating. This makes it stay sharp 5 times longer. It’s a chore to constantly sharpen blades so I love this feature! I sometimes have to add extra force when pruning but when I use FISKARS it’s so much easier. The PowerGear2 makes this pruner 3 times stronger and so much smoother! I have joint pain so this is a WONDERFUL feature!! Thank you so much for making a pruner that easier to handle. That brings me to the grips. On the top grip there’s an easy to push/pull lock mechanism. Simply pull towards you to unlock and push forward to lock. The grips are very durable as well as rugged. When you squeeze the pruner to prune a limb or stem the bottom grip makes a half rotation making it so much easier to complete the pruning motion. I can say that these are super comfy on my hands and fingers. I love these!! It says a lot to see the Ease of Use stamp from the Arthritis Foundation on the package. I totally agree with them.
I used it to lightly prune 3 peach trees that just needed a little touching up. I also cut some maverick holly branches. This tool is rated at a ¾” cut capacity. It has no difficulty with that size branch. The Fiskars PowerGear2 Softgrip Hand Pruner have the look and feel of quality. Regarding the feel, I have to say that it is made for the right hand. That is no problem for me since I am right-handed. However, I like to also work with either hand, so I tried it with my left hand as well.First, right-handed - The pruner has a natural feel while I squeeze the handles to make a cut. The orange handle remains stationary under the control of my thumb and the thenar eminence (area that connects the thumb to the palm). This is the cool part: the black handle curls with my 4 fingers due to a cam. I don’t know if others (lefties in this case) prune with either hand like I do. If so, you now know how to operate it right-handed.Next, left-handed – You don’t want to hold it the same way described above or else the black handle curls the opposite direction of your 4 fingers. Instead, turn the pruner “upside-down” so that your 4 fingers hold the orange handle and your thumb curls in with the rotation of the black handle. It’s not made for the left hand, but this is a workaround.I have a couple of other pruners. One is the anvil-type, which I do not like. The other is the scissor type like this one (in the past I also used it to trim goat hooves). I would say that the Fiskars is superior in every way to both of them. In either hand the cutting power of the Fiskars is better than other, non-geared pruners. The package says it has 3x more power and it definitely is easier with this set. I like the “lock” mechanism that holds it shut better than the hook mechanism on my other ones.
I really wanted to love these, I do a lot of heavy yard work and they sounded perfect to make it easier on my retired age hands. Unfortunately the way they are made to roll with each cut makes the bottom handle roll right out of my (smallish) hand. To use them I would have to fumble around to get them back in my grip each time I cut. Another review mentioned the size issue so I tried them without cutting any branches, leaving them clean for a return. I wish they made a smaller size, although I'm not sure the rolling handle wouldn't cause blisters I'd be willing to wear leather gloves if it made trimming easier (it's hot here in FL most of the year and leather gloves get pretty sweaty)
