I never feel sweaty with the jacket, and it is incredibly windproof, which I believe helps to maintain its warmth on windy, frigid days. The fill is G-Loft, and when you go to the G-Loft website, you can see how unique this insulation is. The fibers are hollow to maintain warmth, wrapped with other fibers to create pockets of air that further maintains warmth, yet allows air to circulate, is compressible, and maintains insulation properties even when wet (which is important if you don't wax this jacket and water soaks through). The interior lining is polyamide, which appears smooth, durable and doesn't snag. The inner front of the external pockets has a soft, cloth material. The main zipper is plastic and has the pull on the left. It does take a short time to get used to it, but after that, it becomes 2nd nature. To date, I have had no issues with the zipper, and it seems as durable as many of the other recent jackets I have tried, which all seem to use plastic zippers.Fit:The fit is flattering and tapers from the shoulders to the hips. I opted for a large, which still gives me enough room for a light sweater or fleece if I need to layer. Due to the narrowing at the hips, you quickly realize how important the 2-way zipper is and why the pull is in the left and not the right. I need to open up the zipper at the bottom to allow the jacket to splay out when I sit or crouch. The arms are perfect length for me but find that the Velcro closure at the wrist doesn't prevent air flow into the lower arms. The hood is lightly insulated and is windproof. It maintains its shape when worn and does extend laterally, which limits your peripheral view. The top of the hood has a curve and enough rigidity to keep snow or rain from dripping directly on your face. There are cinch cords to help narrow fit the hood more snugly, if desired. There are 6 pockets - 2 chest, 2 waist, and 2 internal chest which are just behind the 2 outer chest pockets. These pockets are quite substantial and allow you to store a large phone with protective case, and other large items. I love that the outer zippers all have a leather attachment to the zipper pull - it helps pull the zipper and adds a touch of class to the appearance. There are also 2 internal mesh pockets near the base of the jacket for gloves, hats, or goggles. I never find these mesh pockets functional, and for how I use the jacket, I often forget they are there. Due to the narrow cut of the lower jacket, I rarely feel any draft, but there is an internal draw cord just above the hem that can cinch the jacket tighter if needed.Warmth:The beauty of this jacket is how well it stops the wind. In my opinion, this allows the G-Loft insulation to really shine. I was concerned that the fill wasn't enough to keep me warm, but for the most part it does. On cold days above 32 degrees F, it provided enough warmth with me just wearing a t-shirt and button-down shirt. By increasing my activity, the warmth I created allowed me to comfortably get to 25 degrees F to 32 degrees F. If I was just standing still, I consistently felt a chill. I always wear gloves in this temperature and pulling the hood on definitely made me feel warmer. On days below 32 degrees F, it helped to put on a light sweater or fleece. This allowed me to feel comfortable all the way down to 0 degrees F with windchill, even if standing still. I only felt a draft at the wrist, where the Velcro did not provide a symmetrical enough narrowing to prevent airflow.Water/Snow:I was really worried about this, since the G-1000 material is not waterproof unless the garment is waxed. So far, the jacket has held up admirably without any soaking of the material. I can see the water bead on the surface. I plan on taking my jacket every spring to the Fjallraven store where they will wax my jacket for free.Appearance:It really looks nice on gentlemen who have a normal or fit shape. I worry that if your mid-section is wide, it will be too tight. This is a jacket you should probably try on before purchasing. I opted for a black color, which looks great as a commuter jacket. I get a lot of compliments. The only thing I do not like is how the Fjallraven shoulder patch is sewn. The edges of the patch curl out and I think sewing the patch down around the edge would give it a cleaner look. A small issue, but an easy fix for the company.Warranty:Fjallraven offers a limited lifetime warranty, primarily for material defects. Other than an accidental tear (not covered), I suspect the weak spot in this jacket would be neglecting to wax it or issues with the zipper. There is no reason to not care for your jacket by waxing it routinely, and if you don't, you potentially void the warranty. As I mentioned earlier, the store will do it for free. The Fjallraven site is not clear about zippers, since it is not on their list of "Issues Not Covered", yet they show a video in their repair section demonstrating how to repair a broken zipper. I am not sure where I would get the parts to repair their specific zippers and I would probably take it to the store to get their opinion and see if they could fix it or guide me in the right direction. Overall, the warranty is better than some (North Face) and comparable to others (Arc'teryx) and less than others (Patagonia, Canada Goose). In most of them, they rely on a customer representative to determine if your jacket is experiencing just normal wear and tear and whether it still falls under the warranty.Cost:Pick these up while they are on sale - usually late fall through the winter in the US. Compared to other high-quality jackets, the workmanship, the appearance, and its functionality, I think its price point is reasonable. Only time will tell me about its durability, but so far, I have not seen anything that worries me.

I really wanted this jacket and waited patiently for it to go on sale as the asking price is a bit steep IMO. I tried it on and fell in love with how the sleeves fit, in terms of the shaped elbow and the perfect length, as well as the torso length and girth, large enough to make space for some layers underneath but not so big and bulky like some other jackets I was considering. So here we are, it's hanging by my front door and I'm glad I have it, however there's a few quirks I'm less than pleased with:- If you actually use the interior chest pockets, items will cause the corners of the netting inside the exterior chest pockets to protrude, making it look like you're nipping SUPER hard, which is a goofy design flaw. I love Fjallraven's hoods, for the most part, however this one has a Sonic the Hedgehog vibe going on while the hood is deployed and fitted to my head. Also it's as if the neck is too long or the hood is too deep, vertically... it would fit great if I were wearing a helmet or three hats stacked on top of eachother.- This has the same velcro sleeve ends as the Abisko Lite Trekking Jacket (which I also have, and how I learned how much I LOVE/hate Fjallraven Jackets) which are just about worthless after a year of use as the velcro loses almost all of its sticktivity; I make a point of NOT adjusting the sleeve ends on this jacket. Maybe one day years down the road I'll take it in and have someone install snap buttons instead.- The hand pockets are somewhat shallow, and only have fleece lining on the outside.So for all the complaints, I could easily justify each design consideration with two positives. This is a jacket you have to want, it's not your classical minivian of jackets like a Columbia would be. I wanted it and I'm glad I have it. The materials are very nice and the heavier G-1000 on the shoulders and hood sucked up a layer of wax happily. I'm looking forward to wearing this jacket out and putting it through its paces. Hopefully nothing stupid like the big chunky zipper start (that's plastic) doesn't break, as that might be a difficult fix and render the jacket totaled.And I didn't even talk about the buttons yet! The combination of Bottom, Top and Tip-top buttons, combined with the two way zipper, enable the wearer (me) the ability to very finely tune just how "on" I want this jacket to be, which is nice. I'd like if there were other ventilation options like their warm weather jackets have, but at the end of the day this is moreso a casual jacket than a bone-a-fide "trekking jacket", at least IMO.

But this piece just wasn't for me. And if I'm paying this much for a jacket I should really love it, right?It mostly came down to the fit — it felt awkward. I ordered a size small. For reference, I'm 5'6" 150lbs with broad shoulders and fairly long arms. The small was tight in the chest, it felt too long (especially the rear which hangs down lower than the front), and the arms were also too long for me. Plus, the collar felt too tight and stifling when it was fully zipped up. Personally, I had no trouble with the zipper but I figured it out already from my other Fjallraven jacket.When I modeled it for my family, they weren't effusive as they should be for a new piece and that's how I knew this wasn't the right fit for me. Great jacket otherwise though.
I was looking for a good quality winter jacket that I could trust to keep me warm without having to worry about layering like I dowith my down jackets. I just throw this on over whatever I'm wearing and I feel confident going out. Though it hasn't gotten properly cold yet in Minnesota (currently end of December and still upper 30s).The material feels great and durable. I do appreciate fjallraven's focus on not using PFCs in the coat. the hood is especially nice with its adjustability as is the waist adjustment which cleverly hides the drawstrings in the inner lower pockets. One area it is far from perfect is the zipper.The zipper, as many have stated is very lacking, fussy, and feels cheap. It's nothing to do with it being left handed. I have a Mammut zip jacket with a left handed zipper that works perfectly. Fjallraven, by contrast, consistently have poor functioning zippers and I first noticed this on the Pack Down Hoodie I bought last year- the zipper is difficult to engage and just when you think you got it and try to pull, nothing. It's still stuck and you have to find the sweet spot so that it'll properly engage. It's worse on the Skogso because it's a heavier jacket and you can't subconsciously zip it up like any other zipper. You have to stop and focus as you do it.The long term durability of the zipper concerns me because it's already lightly gotten caught a few times and I worry that in one year something will break. I don't mind replacing the zipper, but if the zipper teeth break then that will be a huge pain and not easily repairable. I'm not sure if fjallraven will repair that sort of thing. For that reason I don't have full confidence in the jacket long term but until then I'll enjoy it and be conscientious of the zipper.My advice to Fjallraven: The quality of the zipper should match the quality of the whole jacket, especially since it's a high wear partAlso, I never pay full price for Fjallraven gear or anything if I can help it so I was thrilled to get iton sale during cyber Monday for $255.
Got it a month ago (on sale). waxed Dark Green, size M. I'm 5'7+, 170 - thicker athletic build, 41/32. Fjallraven's sizing isn't ideal for me, but the Jacket fits great - a touch tight in lats, but still allows for layering, slightly long for me, but so is everything. The functionality of this jacket is second to NONE. The pockets are spectacular (hand pockets, two exterior chest, and TWO interior chest with zippers, and two hat/glove pockets - perfection). The hood has great adjustability. Velcro cuffs are easy to adjust. Zero issue with the two-way European Zipper - does not feel cheap. I do have the Singi in size M, and that thing is massive.
Like every product I have from Fjallraven, it is of the highest quality clothing money can buy. Some people complained about the sleeve length but this is silly, just button the snaps on the wrist and the sleeve won’t go past your wrist then. In the above photos I am wearing a cotton T-shirt as well as a Polartec pullover fleece under the jacket and I have plenty of room without it feeling tight or uncomfortable. I could easily have added a merino wool shirt under the Polartec as well with no problems.As far as water repellency goes it was such right out of the package. I wanted basically waterproof so I mixed up some “Greenland wax” myself consisting of 90% gulf paraffin wax and 10% beeswax. Poured into bar using a soap mold from hobby lobby. After it hardened I used it to put a heavy coat of wax on the hood and shoulders and a lighter coat on the rest of the jacket with the exception of the armpits because I wanted them to vent as much as possible. The pic of the jacket where it looks frosted is before melting the wax in. The other pics are after melting it into the fabric.I melted the wax into the cloth with a hairdryer and then tossed the jacket in the dryer on high heat for about 10-15 minutes with some other clothes to ensure it was evenly soaked in everywhere.Overall I’m very happy with this jacket. I got rid of my synthetic rubbery rain jacket because I hated that it didn’t breathe and wasn’t as durable in the woods as this one will be. Hope this review and sizing info helps someone.

With the initial wax, wind is an issue. Perfectly comfortable with T-shirt, flannel, medium fleece (and accessories) waiting for trains in -10 F, wind, and winter mix.Fit: 6'5", 245 lb. I bought this thinking g-1000 original was used throughout. I was and am still kinda disappointed that it isn’t- but I like the jacket so much other than that I’m gonna keep it.I don’t have any experience with g-lite, only the original, but it does seem to hopefully be hardy enough for how I intend to use it- a replacement for my Carhartt.The articulation is phenomenal. The pockets are plentiful and useful. It’s warm enough down to at least 20, depending on what you are doing obviously.If I wasn’t impressed with everything else on this jacket, i probably would have returned it because it isn’t g1000 original throughout. Time will tell how well the lite holds up.This jacket made in all original would be perfect. We shall see.

This is a very nice, well made and well designed (i.e. sharp looking) jacket. If you like useable pockets, this jacket has eight of them, six of them with a zipper. (there are two unzipped inside mesh pockets for hat/gloves or whatever). As mentioned, the sleeves are a bit long, but not enough that it looks off. The ability to wax the coat for improved rain protection to whatever degree you want is a big plus. (there's a balance, as breathability suffers with more wax). I'm not sure how cold it's good for yet, but I'll say at least -10 if you wear a sweater in cold weather anyway, as I do. This was a great buy for me, I'm very happy with it.(5'-8", 150lbs, size:small). The only (temporary I hope) downside is that it's very wrinkled from the courier delivery.
