Flex Seal Spray Rubber Sealant Coating, 14-oz, Black

Very happy with the product. I does spray out a bit thick and textured, but that was ok in my application. If you want something to appear smooth afterwards, not sure you can achive it with this. That said, you may not get the desired effects from a "thinner" sprayed mixure. In order to finish a project, I bought a name brand simular product, which came out a bit thinner. Only took about two weeks to see it wasnt as high a quality. Impressed me so much, I have been spreading the word of my experiance, and bought 4 more cans to keep on the shelf for an upcoming project.

A bit messy and smelly.

I was eager to receive this product because I have various areas outside/inside the home I want to seal. I've never used a product l like this so I decided to use it as a test.The spray can application at first seemed like a better idea, but after seeing it in action, I was disappointed. The spray zone was wider than I anticipated which lead to an overspray onto areas I didn't want covered.The consistency was about what I imagined because it's basically liquid rubber that ends up a chunky spray that kind of smooths after drying.The color was exactly as described and the product does seal and prevent water from penetrating after fully drying. I believe it took longer to dry because it's winter weather right now. I read the instructions and paid attention to where I was spraying making sure to have good ventilation, but even though I used it outdoors, I could still smell it coming into the home. It's has a very strong odor and doesn't fade as quick as I would have l liked. It almost reminded me of the smell of gasoline.The clean up was more difficult than I had hoped. I tried scrubbing it off areas of my hands that got covered from scrubbing the areas of the house that the overspray came into contact with. I had to use a heavy duty hand scrub just to remove to small spots on my hand and still have find something to remove it from the areas of my home I didn't want sprayed.Overall it's a good product that does what it is supposed to do, but there are certainly drawbacks and a bit of a learning curve. Better weather and more personal trial and error could have made this experience excellent.

Flex Seal Spray worked like a charm!

The Flex Seal liquid rubber sealant really does live up to its name! I used the Flex Seal on a damaged black vinyl downspout by applying layers to create a nice water tight seal where there was a cut along the extension connection point.This worked out great in my case because my Flex Seal is black which just blended in with my black vinyl downspout. I applied about five coats to get a nice water tight seal which looked seamless! When starting off, I found that applying little goes a long way especially because the damage I was repairing was just a cut/slit across the vinyl.As indicated on the can, definitely need to use the spray in a well ventilated space and/or outside. This company also sells a waterproofing tape that is double the price for a fraction of what you would think it would cover. Since our project was irregularly shaped, we went with the spray, and ended up going back two or three times to buy more. It is picky about gaps, looking at first like it was occluding them, but not getting quite thick enough to become waterproof. I think the tape would have done fine, and saved us lots of time and money. Good: sticks to EVERYTHING, a nice plus if your waterproofing involves two different items, like wood and metal. Also good: the spray will go into places that would not be accessible otherwise. Great for fixing small cracks

This past summer my favorite cooler had gotten cracked. I have had this cooler forever and couldn’t part with it. I figured this would be a good project for the Flex Seal. I did have to use more than two coats because the crack was very large. Flex Seal is extremely easy to use and has a nice, even spray. After a couple of coats, I could see the crack had been filled and I needed to have it dry. It’s extremely cold here right now so I have no use for my cooler at this moment but I still wanted to see how this product can hold up. I filled the cooler up with ice and left it over night. No leaking of any kind! I was very impressed. On the bottle it suggests two but I felt it needed several more. This was a smaller crack and maybe the way it was angled left me needling to add more so it could be different for every project.The best part about Flex Seal is that it’s a great price and easy to use. They’ve made this product consumer friendly. I do strongly suggest using outside because there is a strong odor. The smell does not linger and goes away quickly but it’s best done outside. I have a few projects around my home that I would also like to use Flex Seal on. It’s great that there are different colors!Overall, I was very impressed and plan on using on several other project around the house. Great product!

Great for plugging leaks

I have seen this on the market and have wanted to try it since I seen what all projects you can use this spray seal for. I am easily a fan since the first time I used this, which was on my front porch with a small leak I was having near the top of the screen door. The rubber piece was missing from the screen door which was causing water to flow right through and get the floor all wet below. I took the spray and looked at the instructions which were easy to follow and I sprayed it onto the door surface and the cracked rubber area. I thought it would be messy to apply, but it is an absolute breeze when it comes to the spraying and application process. I was looking for a product that would seal the spaces where my outside water lines enter my camper to help with insulation and weather proofing. The area was not huge but just enough to allow cold air to seep in and I did not want to take any chances as temperatures frequently dip into single digits.I found the flex seal worked well in this application. It was easy to administer the appropriate amount for the area I was working on. The product comes in an aerosol can with a standard push button spray nozzle. I would have liked the product to come with a connecting straw which would help get into smaller cracks. As it is there's little control on how much of an area is sprayed due to the nozzle.Overall the Flex Seal worked nicely. I had to do a couple of applications to build the product up and waited 24 hours before coating. The can recommends 24 to 48 hours between. I found the seal to be fully cured about 48 hours after applying. The instructions also state the dried seal can be painted over, but I selected the black color which matched the hole protectors in my RV; therefore, I did not need to paint.

Works for what I needed

I bought this product to spray-seal the roof of an outdoor cat house I built. It sprays fairly well and covers easily. It basically rubberized and waterproofed the roof. Water does bead up on the surface and it doesn't peel off easily. Even though the can is large you really only get enough to cover a 10 sq. ft. surface if you're spraying plywood or OSB. No idea how it is on metal or for waterproofing metal as I haven't tried that.

Then, allow to sit for 24 hours.Out of all the uses, I can confirm it does fairly well on small holes in gutters, hoses of various kinds(not hoses that will experience high heat), and some roof applications.This stuff is NOT a permanent solution.With that said, the issue I have with this is twofold:1. It's not really cost effective. I'm not going to name other products since this is a review, but there are many other solutions that are cheaper and will yield similar results. I've never seen any statistics on how long this stuff lasts or how effectively it seals. So, I won't know how long it may be before leaks again become a problem. A straw to direct the paint would have helped. Be careful using it inside without adequate ventilation. At least open windows or doors or run and/or run you HVAC fan for a while. Don't breath any more of the fumes than you have to. No open flames or sparks where the vapors may collect. Water cleanup is insufficient. Use paint thinner or similar product.In a few years I may be able to give it 5 stars.
