Flipper Cleaner Max

$114.95

(40 reviews)

The Flipper Max can be used on glass and acrylic tanks up to 24mm (1") thickness. Flipper's patented design creates the only 2 in 1 aquarium cleaner that can FLIP from scrubber to scraper simply by rotating the handle. Complete aquarium cleaning without ever getting your hands wet. Flipper Max is made with some of the strongest rare earth magnets available, allowing it to clean glass and acrylic tanks up to 1" (24mm) in thickness. Its unique design almost completely eliminates the possibility of trapping sand particles! With an ultra-low profile, and the only dual scrubber / scraper design on the market, it is a major time-saver for daily cleaning. That's why the Flipper Max has quickly become a "must-have" cleaning tool for advanced hobbyists and maintenance professionals! Flipper Features Made with rare earth magnets for incredible cleaning strength and durability. Cleans even the most stubborn coraline algae. Blade side has only 3 contact points resulting in a 3mm gap between the cleaner and the glass. This minimizes the chance of trapping sand, and thus reduces the chance of scratching, even when cleaning below the sand!. Unique orienting buoyancy always keeps the magnets facing the glass for easy retrieval. Plus, Flipper is nearly neutral buoyancy so it does not sink like a stone if the magnets are disengaged. Includes two replaceable blades: Stainless Steel for glass tanks and ABS plastic for acrylic tanks. It is suggested to replace blades every 3-6 months to maintain optimal algae scraping.

I had been a MagFloat customer for years and wanted to try something different. I have since switched back. I'm writing this review after proving to myself which is the better product. Floating is a good thing and the MagFloat removed all the stubborn algae from the glass.

I have a Max and it does a great job cleaning the glass. Flipping is easy. But mine does not float as advertised. More of an annoyance than anything and I can work around it. I have a suggestion though. The outside piece should be a bit more ergonomic. Maybe an ovoid shape that you can really get your hand around. As it is, my fingers and hand get a little tired (OK they are old) and as it is now designed it gets a little difficult to grip.

I purchased my unit from at MACNA2014 and have used it for over a year now.. The Max is a little hard for me to flip due to its large size because it catches the current.. Other than this, it is a very good cleaner for large aqugariums. I suggest using the plastic blade even for glass aquariums. The ss blade works very well but the plastic blade will absolutely not scratch and works almost as well. I especially like to use the blade to clean down into the sand. Done carefully it is a very easy way to get normally hard part of the glass clean. Great product. RJ

Not effective on acrylic
4 March 2018

The magnets are very strong and flipping it is not hard but the cleaner is not effective on acrylic. The plastic blade will not scrape coralline algae off acrylic. I suspect the metal blade would be effective on glass, but of course you can't use that on acrylic. The flip side is too soft to scrub most film algae so I'm going to have to go to Mighty Mag and buy one of their algae cutter bags and try putting that over the wet side block. Be VERY careful along the sand bed. Even though the scraper side rides only on the blade and two small plastic beads to prevent sand from getting caught between the magnets it can still get caught between the scraper and glass. I have lots of new scratches. Finally, the dry side is very difficult to hold. It is too thin to grip ... MoreThe magnets are very strong and flipping it is not hard but the cleaner is not effective on acrylic. The plastic blade will not scrape coralline algae off acrylic. It is too thin to grip effectively and my hand tires easily dragging it across the tank and I am a big man with big hands. It needs a more ergonomic grip designed to be held in a person's hand. If you have small, or even medium hands, then expect to need to use both of them. Very disappointed. For $80, look elsewhere.

One of my best purchases ever!
9 August 2018

Been in the hobby for over 20 years and this has to be one of the most useful products I've ever purchased! I use the Max on a 300gal with 5/8" glass. Very strong! My only complaint is that it is so strong that the handle needs to be a bit thicker so I can move it easier. Other than that, this thing is perfect! Flipping scrubber to scraper with a twist of the handle and I can clean my whole tank in about 10 min....probably 5x faster than anything else I've used. The blade will get off everything, but I save it for the corraline (cuts thru it like butter) and use the pad everywhere else. Keep the pad out of the substrate though. This is so strong that any trapped sand would likely scratch. The blade side has a gap so sand doesn't get trapped, so I use the blade down ... MoreBeen in the hobby for over 20 years and this has to be one of the most useful products I've ever purchased! Had the Max a year so far and only had to replace the blade one time. Anyway, it's an amazing cleaner and you'll be happy to have one!!

Sweet and Easy Magnetic Algae Remover
7 March 2019

I have a 300-gallon acrylic tank, and this works great for getting algae off of the glass. The flipping is easy; just watch some YouTube videos on how to do it. I use the plastic acrylic scraper for the acrylic tank, of course. I love how the scrappers and pads can be replaced with new replacement parts over time. Highly recommended!

The Bomb, at first... Then
16 January 2018

Out of the package I was happy as a clam with its ease of use. Somewhere around the six month mark performance started to tank. OK, blades get dull. Ordered up the replacement blades, that didn't cut the coralline. Contacted the manufacturer, after submitting a proof of ownership photo, they sent me a replacement. Now four months into this scrapper is back to it's old actinic. I guess it works well enough if I wanted to devote time to clown around with a replacement every four to six months. There has got to be something better out there. I'll just have to scourer around and look for it.

The best!!!!
4 July 2016

I've had quite a few magnetic cleaners and they all have been horrible, scratch my acrylic bad. So I started using the hand held scrubber and the hand held plastic blade for the hard stuff. That worked fine until I bought the AI hybrid system. I have a canopy over my tank so there is much room to move around. Cleaning the tank became a hassle. I then saw this cleaner thinking, yeah, right!!!!! Well I will tell you what, this is the best dang cleaner ever. Very easy to use and cleans great. I am perfectionist and the hard algae drove me nuts, well that is no longer a problem with this bad boy. If you are having doubts, don't, buy it!!!!

The cleaner does not float!
26 March 2018

This is probably the worst cleaner I have owned. I have had aquariums both freshwater and saltwater for more that 25 years. This Algae scrapper sinks like a rock and does a poor job in removing basic hair algae and film from the front of my aquarium. I do not recommend. Sticking with Mag-Float. they float and are worth the extra you pay!

Works only for a few months...
22 July 2018

Worked fine for a few months now it won't remove Coraline algae. New blades work somewhat. Now the inside magnet from the outside piece detached itself from the housing and it doesn't work at all anymore. Disappointed considering it's not that cheap.
