Flirc Raspberry Pi Zero Case
The FLIRC Raspberry Pi Zero Case is compatible with Raspberry Pi Zero W and the newer Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W. The design of the FLIRC Zero Case is based on the original FLIRC case. As with the original, the aluminum housing serves as protection and, thanks to the contact point on the processor, as a passive cooler. Ideal for silent operation. In addition to a normal cover that encloses and protects the Raspberry Pi Zero, there is a second cover that allows access to the GPIO pins through a small opening.

FLIRC Aluminium Raspberry Pi Zero Case with Cooling

This case is designed to act as a heat sink for the installed RPi Zero W or WH, but I suspect the actual chip layout of the new RPi Zero 2 W may be different and not conform with the heat sink in the case. The case has a 'bump' to which you attach a gummy heat transfer pad and then it attaches to the top of the SoC on the board. The case comes with two tops, one of which allows for access to the RPi GPIO pins, the other completely covers the pins.Bring metal, the case likely interferes with WiFi, so that's a consideration.

Very nice looking. Putting it together was easy even without an instruction. There are two drawbacks, the mini-HDMI port does not work with adapters due to the case being a bit too wide. This can be fixed by cutting it to make the hole wider, and this shouldn't be a problem if you can SSH into your RPI. The SD card being enclosed is perfect if you have a 24/7 project that won't require taking out the SD card, however might be annoying if you need to replace it more often. For me, it would be 5/5 stars, however I'm taking off a star just because of these small issues that could be fixed which would allow the case to be easier to use.

SEXY! A beautiful brushed aluminium case. Makes the RPI Zero look more like a high-end cigarette lighter than a capable little Linux computer. This was for a RPi Zero dedicated to remote triggering of a digital camera (using gphoto). I only need the USB ports so could use the enclosed top for the case. I'm a fan of the FLIRC cases for their heat dissipation - they work well with a busy RPi 4 - but that's irrelevant for this particular Zero. The wrist strap even allows me to hang the RPi from the tripod, rather than from the end of the micro USB to mini USB that triggers the camera. Be warned though, all this sleek aluminium svelteness comes at the price of reduced WiFi range. Significantly reduced. In side by side comparisons with the plastic white & red 'official' case the range was reduced about 50%. Not a dealbreaker, but certainly an irritation. Worth noting that the range of the onboard WiFi isn't fabulous in the first place. For long-range DSLR triggering I resort to an external USB dongle hanging off a USB splitter. Ugly, but very functional.

This is an elegant little case for the Pi Zero. It looks very smart when assembled and is a perfect fit for the USB and video ports. It's supplied with two alternative top covers: one provides access to the GPIO pins, and the other fully encloses the Pi. There are a couple of points to be aware of: the LED isn't visible and the SD card can only be accessed by opening the case. The case comes with a thermal pad for the CPU, and the case seems to passively cool the Pi quite effectively. This case was perfect for my application, and I can see myself using more of these in the future.
This is a lovely solid heat-sink case. I also have the versions for a Pi2 and a Pi4. This version failed to achieve the full five stars on two counts:1. You have to take the Pi out of the case to access the SD card. This may be a plus point for some applications but for me I prefer to be able to get at the card like the larger versions.2. The case shields the WiFi so is unsuable for the Zero-W and the Zero-2W. You may think this is obvious for a metal case but the version for the Pi4 still manages to let the WiFi operate.
Bought for pi zero 2 w. This is a lovely case that is set back by a fatal design flaw. The mini hdmi port is too deep set for any of my mini hdmi cables to fit in properly. If you're using your pi in headless mode then this shouldn't make a difference but it rendered it unusable for me. Otherwise the delivery was fast and the order was also processed promptly. I'd buy from pi hut in the future but I'd probably do a bit more research on accessories like this before doing so.
Bit torn by this case. It's an absolutely beautiful design, and really satisfying to throw in a pack and be able to plug anywhere I have a keyboard and screen. The issue I've had with it is the moulding isn't precise, so the board isn't held tightly in place, and the mini HDMI connector is so deeply recessed that I've had difficulty with several cables in getting a picture output. I've jammed a slice of an old credit card down the back of the board to keep it in place, and have found a mini HDMI-HDMI adaptor that is long enough to ensure a picture - but it does take away from the design a little. That said, when I just SSH onto via wireless and access the PiZero via WiFi, it looks and works great.
Reasonably priced for a very well made and attractive case for the Raspberry Pi Zero. Everything fits perfectly and the large mass of aluminum that contacts the CPU when assembled should provide good thermal dispersion. The only issue I have with this case is that there is no provision to remove/replace the micro SD card without disassembling the unit. As FLIRC added a wrist lanyard to the the device I assume they had concerns about the card dislodging in a pocket or debris entering the case. Oddly there is a slit cut for the camera ribbon cable. Not a big problem, but since I won't be using mine on the go, I would have preferred a cutout to access the micro SD.
I've previously used the official Raspberry Pi cases for other Pi Zero devices, and they might be good for experimentation. But this FLIRC case is far and away a more solid case which lends itself well for permanent installation. I appreciate that they include both a solid top and a cutout one for those needing access to the GPIO pins. There's a small slit to route a flex cable from the internal CSI connector to an external Pi camera, but there's no similar slot for use with a microSD card. That means if you need to replace the card, you're required to disassemble the case via the four screws. It's inconvenient, but not a deal-breaker.
As a heatsink: 5*Overall: 4*The case is thick. That's good for heat reservation. But it makes it a little hard to connect the HDMI. The micro usb connection connects, but you'll need to shave the plastic insulation of your plug.If you're handy, you can dremel around the plug areas. The zero 2 puts out a little more heat than the zero 1, but not a lot. So this heat sink is fine. It drops about 10C.The plastic coverings block heat, but it doesn't really matter. It also lets some wifi signal go thru.
