Saw a coworker breakout his 1587 Fluke to do what i have only seen done in motor shops... I was sold. I looked and found the Fluke 1587FC for a great price. Have used this on my own now several times in place of guessing with my other more basic fluke meter, Takes the guesswork out of trouble shooting and adding a great deal of customer confidence! This meter has been a huge time saver making a better bottom line. no longer performing further repairs on motors only to find deeper problems! (Quicker repairs) I would definitely purchase this meter again! Highly recommended. Derk G. Utah

This product is simply awesome. I am an industrial electrician and it has pretty much everything I need. It can simply be used as a normal multimeter, testing for dead, checking resistances even checking amperage using the very handy Fluke i400 clamp meter. What makes this meter stand way out from the rest is the ability to check insulation resistance after the installation is complete! Other insulation resistance testers combined with the multimeter are extremely bulky and awkward to use, for example the Fluke 1663, in my opinion anyway. The Fluke 1587 fits just nice in the hand, no awkwardness, no messing about. To make it even more convenient there is the Fluke TPAK to hang your meter. I wanted to use this for electric vehicle testing in automotive class (I am the instructor). After contacting Fluke I found out the you must measure the lead resistance and then calculate the difference when measuring ohms. Since we are looking for a reading of less than .05 ohms this is a little annoying for a $700 meter. Firs meter I have used in a long time with no zero function. Other than that OK. After further communication with Fluke they were quite helpful and we reached a resolution that has made me change my review to 5.0. Other than the non zeroing function the meter works well.

This meter is defiantly more convenient to use than most insulation testers, because it has the remote lead, and alligator clips. I have had three other testers before this one, and this one is by far the best. It also takes care of most of your other troubleshooting needs all in one meter which makes it very versatile. The drawbacks are the probes that they include. The tips are not long enough and thin enough to get into tight ares. I purchased the 1587 FC for the needs of my employment in the Generator field. The Insulation Test feature is perfect for me to test the alternator cables as is required for service or diagnostic. The ohm range is great for what I need it for, the thermometer is great to measure heat in a room to determine adequate ventilation and I love how fast Fluke meters give you a HZ reading.My only wish is that this meter was compatible with the Amp iFlex cable.
This was an upgrade from the first generation model 1587 and I can say it is worth every penny.Hands down, the best feature is the Bluetooth connection via Fluke Connect. I test countless motors in an industrial setting and logging the insulation results over time is essential. Logging that data on my phone is a massive time saver and ensures accuracy.Similarly, logging PI/DAR timed ratio tests with Fluke Connect is key to long term proactive analysis of motors.
As a defense contractor working on Navy ships I use the 1587 FC Insulation Multimeter daily. We are required to perform insulation resistance checks using 500 volts as well as continuity checks. This meter can accomplish both. No need to carry two meters around. The remote probe and ability to record data on my phone is a real time saver and ensures accuracy. The display has large digits that are easy to read in dark locations. The meter can be used with the FLUKE SV225 Stray Voltage Eliminator to prevent false reading from ghost voltage. Very versatile meter.

I often troubleshoot and commission motors, and the 1587 was my go-to DMM. It's now been replaced by the 1587FCThe added features of Fluke Connect, the automated temperature correction when conducting IRT (Insulation Reisitance Tests), and automated PI (Polarization Index) and DAR (Dialectric Absorbtion Ratio) tests have simplified and streamlined my troubleshooting procedure. And the value of documentation is priceless.
Used a Fluke 1587 VOM/ merger last 10 years before retiring. . I used both section of this great combination meter at least a couple hundred times a week to perform detailed PM'S on over 500 VFD'S , starters , safety switches etc. Had to perform voltage drop on every fuse, contacter, disconnect switch & DC buss voltage. Several times I dropped it from top of a 6' stepladder. Like a Timex keeps in ticking. Only bad thing about Fluke they started to get cheapest meters made in cheating lack of quality control communist china. I only own 1 tool made in cheating china. A Craftsman replacement 3/8" breaker bar I broke after 40 years using it. NEVER purchase or use ANY test or safety equionent, tools, LED'S poor fire starting cheating china LED drivers.
